I was watching tropical bob’s Video and he said that it takes around 10 minutes for Nicotine from Snuff to hit the body. I’ve found that I get an immediate Nicotine Hit when I snuff. So is this just in my mind?
Its the same for me , pretty quick hit !
How fortunate for you tomz! As much as I enjoyed the entire experience from the very start I really wasn’t able to appreciate the nicotine from any of the snuffs for perhaps 2 weeks or so. Now most are within 10 minutes, the finer grinds are appreciably faster than that.
I’ve a VERY high tolerance with nicotine and most of the time it’s nothing at all. When I say nothing, it holds off the withdrawals. As with many ex-smokers, the worst time for me is after a meal. I’ve just had my evening meal, I’ve got my coffee and, I’ve just had… A smallish pinch each side… F&T HDT A smallish pinch each side… F.U.B.A.R – R n R A smallish pinch each side… WoS Irish toast No21 A smallish pinch each side… Toque Apricot Ten Minutes has now past since I typed the above……And…… Well….I need a snus chew now! Ten Minutes has now past since I had the Chew……And……my palms have stopped sweating so, I’m not withdrawing now, that’s good. But, my nose is dripping like a tap!!
well I guess it would be an average no a rule. I’ve noticed I get a small hit right after snuffing and if I wait a few minutes (closer to five then ten) that is when I really feel the snuff. Could go into livid details about my nicotine absorbtion experiences but I’am kinda out of it.
I’m not 100% sure, I haven’t watched that video in a while, but I think what was meant was this: It takes the nicotine about 10 minutes to ‘peak’ in the system rather than 10 minutes to ‘hit’ the system. That sounds more accurate, in my experience. You get an initial rush, dependant on grind within 30 seconds of insufflation. then if you’ve taken a big pinch, as the bulk of it moistens you get additional nicotine into your body. Your body has absorbed most of it in about 10 minutes, which is where you’d measure ‘peak cotinine levels’ in the blood. I feel nicotine in my system within seconds of taking a pinch.
Tropical Bob is quite the addict too. God be with him.
My experience is a good solid nic hit with snuff, faster than snus or chew or smoked tobacco. But nostrils must be clean of residue!
I’m new to using snuff and really haven’t figured out much of anything yet, except that I do not prefer American (USA) snuff. It’s like a finely ground cigar, with all charachteristics being bad. I find that I get a burn or rush immediately and little else but nose dripping after that. Generally, I need to stay close to a tissue box. Also, on the rather ugly side, I’m wondering how one removes the already used snuff from one’s nostrils in a public environment; my nostrils cake up with residue fairly quick and I wonder if this is normal over the period of a few hours. After quitting cigarettes I have a very high tolerance for nicotine (53 Years smoking; quit a bit over a year ago). Does anyone have any advice on these rather delicate to discuss issues?
throw dignity to the wind. It will get you more respect in the long run.
The caking happens to me as well just keep ur shnoz moisturized and clean when oportunity strikes
Striking a peak of dosage requires several conditions that many may not comprehend. I may go as far as to tell the smoker to snuff WHILE smoking so that he may recognize the full level of spikedness snuff has to offer.
To get a good nic hit I snuff a schmalzler and follow it immediately with an American Scotch. Try it and if you can’t feel that I don’t know what to tell you.
I agree Nachman, I’ve been alternating Klostermischung and Dental mild tonight. Helloooo St. Nic!
It’s strange that after almost 25years of nicotine in my systerm, I really don’t think I’ve ever felt a “nicotine hit”. Every once in a while I might have been a tad nauseous, and certainly I’ve felt the withdrawal when I quit smoking (without snuff!) but that’s the end of it… What’s the effect for you guys?
I agree with pgcd, I only feel strange when I don’t have enough nicotine. When I do have enough I just feel normal.
I used to get a rare one when I first started smoking but havnt seen a sign of one in a long time
When I do a big pinch of Garrett, rooster, or D white I feel a good hit usually.
“I agree with pgcd, I only feel strange when I don’t have enough nicotine. When I do have enough I just feel normal.” It is exactly the same for me.
I don’t know where anyone gets 10 minutes from, for me its instantaneous.
I was a heavy smoker and still smoke a bit. All I get from snuff is withholding of withdrawals; no nic hit from anything I’ve tried. But I know I’m getting nicotine because I can hold off smoking if I snuff enough. I just got some Rooster from a cool fellow forumite, and to the extent I can take a good pinch of the stuff, I do think it delivers more nic than a lot of snuff does. But I sure have to be careful with it! Dang, I about blew the back of my head off the first time I used it…
I think a lot of the “hit” you get from snuff like rooster is mostly just the burn. Even “high nicotine” snuff has much less nicotine absorption than cigs or snus IMO.
I used to get a buzz, but not really any more now I snus and dip.
I always get the hit instantly, but the way I feel it changes a lot, specially depending on dosage. With small amounts I feel almost nothing, only a bit of a calm feeling. If I take more, it has an euphoric, stimulating and motivating effect, and I feel a bit dizzy (not unpleasantly), and my body and movements feel lighter (but I can still move normally). It also makes my brain tingly, but not always. It happened more often when I started using snuff.
We all experience it differently in any case. There are a couple that I would describe as giving me a hit though. Dholakia white through a bullet for example, but snuffing is more a gentle topping up of nicotine throughout the day. I would really like to see some analysis of the different brands nic content.
I pretty much just use snuff and feel a hit within a few seconds. If my tolerance was higher I wouldn’t feel a thing which is why I stay away from stronger stuff except occasionally.
Also, the effect snuff has is a lot different for a reformed smoker who is used to massive quick jolts of nic than it is for someone who has only ever snuffed. Were you a smoker rdunnion?
I smoke, and snuff just barely keeps the nic cravings off. its the goodness of the stuff in itself that keeps me coming back, although the nicotine does play a role. especially when cutting back on the cigs which I attempt from time to time. problem is I truly enjoy those too when i’m not chain smoking them.
