How long does it take to de-sensitise your nose?

Or in other words, how long does it take till you can handle, with ease, the hardest of snuffs to take? Can anyone take a huge pinch of Brutons, for example, without coughing/sneezing/eyes watering? How long does it take to reach this level? Oscar

I can only tell you my experience. I have been snuffing for a few years now and still sneeze at times but the worst reactions had passed within a couple of months of use. That said, I just miss judged a pinch of Wilson IHT 22 that had me coughing and spluttering.

Ive used snuff for 30 years. The simple answer to can ‘you use anything without crying’ is yes. Not that I would want to though. A powerful snuff is always powerful snuff; the real issue is not ‘can you take the strongest snuff’ - anyone can train their nose for that - but ‘can you enjoy’ the strongest snuffs. Now that does take a while becuase it can take anywhere from now to never to be able to cope with the strong snuff. But taking it and getting the full flavour, unspoilt by watering eyes, is always the thing to aim for.

I never really thought of it as “desensitizing” as much as training yourself to take the harder snuffs properly. Ken

The body has an amazing ability to adapt. I’m sure the snuffing technique is important but nasal sensitivity must be a major factor too. Just like when you firSt started smoking and coughed your guts up every time.

Yeah but the thing is the nose is more self cleaning and snuff does not last long. If anything changes I would assume it would be mucous consistency and of course nicotine tolerance over time. Just my thought. Ken

I’d agree. You get used to taking snuff and have fewer ill problems like sneezing; my nose doesn’t run like a tap, etc. Similar to how snus doesn’t burn like fire in my lip anymore, cigs didn’t make me feel like shit after I smoked them (though they do now) and so on. Dip still burns like fire to me, though!

I’d say it’s more to do with techinque like the previous posters have mentioned. I used to have problems with conjestion and sneezing etc, however these problems do no longer affect me… By the way chaps, I’m back!
