Poschl sell the most snuff? I don’t like Poschl, but even still… most of the people around here get a few Poschl snuffs and move on once they really get into it. I got into their whole neat packaging when I first started out and then I tried them. I’ve never even thought about buying another one since I found other snuffs. I get the sense that many of you on this board feel the same way. I just don’t understand how they can sell that much snuff. I know some of you like them and I don’t mean this post to be an i-hate-poschl sort of thing. I just want to know how a company can be so successful without necessarily having a huge fanbase.
distribution
Yes, deistribution, a good marketing and (not really great but) solid products.
They also make decent schmalzlers. A schmalzler user can go through three to five times as much snuff as a dry snuff user. Of course Bernards makes the best schmalzlers, but they cost a lot more too.
Plus everyone seems to have at least one of their snuffs they really love. For me it’s president.
Yeah it just never made sense to me. As mentholated as their snuffs are, they’ve already polarized a good number of snuff users just in that aspect. It just seems like the company that dominates the market for nasal snuff should have a lot of fans, but in my experience, Poschl does not. Bob and Uwe: I can see what you’re saying. Even in the U.S., I’ve heard of people picking Poschl snuff in a tobacco store.
Also you have to take into account the sheer number of snuff users that never get on the internet and talk about it. Even though we try, the members on this board cannot encompass the entire worlds supply of snuff. lol I would never have joined a forum talking about Camel cigs, but I sure used a bunch of them.
I agree with bigmick. Your pretext may be faulty.
I agree with bigmick: There are a lot of snuff takers we never notice: They do not use the internet or snuffhouse-community. They just go to there tobacco store, buy some Gletscherprise and enjoy it. I am very thankful that you introduced me to the wonderful world of snuff beyond the walls of Pöschl. ;-))
I love Poschl snuffs as my first decent snuff came from them; Poschl’s Gawith Apricot in the smart black box. I will use it as long as it’s available. What about President, Packards Club, Red Bull, Löwen-Prise, Alpina, Gletscherprise etc? I love them all. I have a very wide range of snuffs but Poschl will always feature in my collection.
For me it is the same @PieterClaaseen - i really enjoy Pöschl´s snuff, i can understand people who dont like the whole concept of menthol presence in every single one of their snuffs - not the schmalzers of course. however, i am on the “i like it”-button side.
I’m not saying this board are the only snuff takers everywhere. I just feel like the board is a sample of snuff users across the world and while there are people who like Poschl here, it is nowhere near what I would think a company that sells the most snuff in the world. Poschl dominates in snuff sales. They out sell every other company. I’d think that there would be more Poschl devotees on this board with so many members. I don’t like Poschl snuffs. They aren’t nice to my nose, but I’ve been snuffing long enough to know what one person hates another will like, particularly here. The post was more about how a company could do so well with such divide on opinions on here.
Personally the only Poschl snuff I buy is Red Bull. That one I like. I’ve tried most of their standard range, but not the schmalzlers, but I’m not too keen on schmalzlers, I really have to fancy one to use it, then I do until it’s finished. Gletcherprise has an odd flavour which doesn’t agree with me, and as for the Apricot, I liked it when I first started snuffing, but quickly discovered better snuffs. Also the oil in German snuffs doesn’t react well with me. Blocks me up no end. I’m with @jazzi on this. But Red Bull doesn’t block me up, hence why it is the only one I buy, and that isn’t often. WoS, McChrystals, and Hedges all have better menthols. Stefan
Maybe only bitter, paranoid, extremist minorities like us talk about snuff on internet forums while happy normal majorities just go on with their Poeschl snuffs. I bet they use electric razors and drink bulk lagers too!
Yes we are a sample of snuff takers, but I don’t think we are an even remotely representative sample.
I remember a kid here that filmed himself sniffing a whole tin of Ozona Raspberry in a line. Said he does it all the time. He might represent an example of a Poschl user.
Or Poschl is like Microsoft or Apple, the big dogs, people either love them or pull for the other guys. The choices that we have as snuffers just continually blows my mind, and I’m very appreciative. Representative sample? I think opinion polls are quite often used on prime time news with less people than we have here, especially with political candidates and issues. The whole tin of Raspberry sounds tempting…
I don’t like ANY of Poschl’s products so it’s totally beyond me…
It Think for some reason it’s not " cool " to say you like it. There quality is good though. I like them.
@AllanH & @tybalt +1 I imagine this forum represents a selection bias. True, some people will drop in just to ask a question and there are the many lurkers (I wonder what % of members have posted in the past year… just curiouse). But for most of the active members - we not only use/make snuff, we invest time in disscussing it, enjoy forming relationships around it and we use it as a symbol of who we are (that means something different for each person of course). I like T.Quit, D.white, shave with a DE razor, drive a stick shift, want Windows 3.1 back, collect pocket knives and make stuff out of old watch gears and leather (but not together)… … and I don’t use Poschl I assume they are huge due to long standing and historic distribution channels that involve multiple global partners and deals. Note (from their website): They have been around for 100 years, they went global only after they controlled the German market, their corporate focus for the past 40 years has been sales, distribution and strategic partnerships. In contrast, most of the companies often mentioned here on the forum started with a global strategy from the beginning. Not clear how you conquer significant market share in the current environment (aside from one snuffer at a time). Partner with Philip Morris or equivalent? Then you beat up on the FDA and Pharma and bang, you are in Walmart. Im actually a fan of niche markets … making them, using them… I think they create more value. Part of that comes from more relationships in small markets (like in this forum) and its a pleasure to be part of that!
