I have had the best results rubbing dried out flakes. Grousemore is my first plug. The flakes are a little thick to stuff but this is good smokin
I had no luck with the cube method. or the air pocket method those folks plugs must be old and dry.The easiest way for me, with fresh plug Is cut a piece 3/8 thick then cube that 3/8 cubes.grind it up in my herb grinder
let air out 10/15 min.then gravity fill with only light tapping after faux lite. This iron madden is 3 inches wide 2 inches tall and has a chamber with a screen then a lower chamber that catches the fine grindings which I snuff. I use her for unruley flakes and hard rope. I don’t enjoy lighting my pipe for an hour straight. If it goes out that’s my fault but if I have to suck a golf ball threw a garden hose I my as well that’s not pleasure.
yeah you should let pipe tobacco dry out somewhat before smoking it. A few minutes after breaking up a plug should work. Pipe tobacco is shipped moister then it needs to be. When I get flake in I leave the lid off of it for about an hour and that seems to be right for me. Which brings up how dry should it be however it smokes well for you.

That is a nice herb grinder. I had one like that but it was lost of course. Going to try and get another one
