Hi, I´m new to taking snuff and have already tried a few. I´ve got a question about how to use very dry snuffs, I´ve bought some of those and I am not able to snuff these without practically inhaling them. It´s not only that they get back into my throat, they even reach the lung and that is quite disgusting. However some of them have a real nice aroma, so I would very much like to find a way to enjoy them. I am already very, very cautious taking in the tobacco with only very shallow snuffs, barely smelling them, but still - it regularly makes me cough like hell. Any advice? Thanx a lot.
There are a lot of threds on this subject, just do a search and Im sure youll find what you are looking for! Happy Snuffing!
With practice you’ll be fine. When I first started I was getting Gletscher Prise in my throat which would now embarass me considering its density. Best advice would probably to start with moist snuffs that are almost “clumpy”. You’re going to want to avoid granular snuffs where they are very dry and powdery. Check snuffreviews out and check out the snuffs that people describe as moist. As well, Gletscher Prise is a good beginner snuff to try in my opinon.
My advice for the ultra dry ones is use a bullet, particularly of the type sold by Toque. The dosing chamber in these is quite small and a lot of people pair them out a touch to hold more. But using one as bought gives an ideal, regulated dose of fine snuff. I’ve just started getting into Dholakia White by using a bullet. Just fill it up, charge the chamber and inhale slowly. Really works for me - despite snuffing for 30 years or so some types still have the capacity to blow my nead off and Ive recently found bullets a great solution. If you are new to snuff though, it might work out better if, as suggested, you start with a courser type.
For me, what worked was a) inhaling *before* you sniff, so that the lungs are full; and b) twisting the snuff between thumb and index finger for a few seconds, so as to make a tiny “ball”. For some reason sniffing lightly doesn’t necessarily help, and it’s sometimes actually worse - I suppose it’s because, when you sniff very lightly only the tiniest, lightest particles get to move, and they are the ones that hurt…
pgcd : I suppose it’s because, when you sniff very lightly only the tiniest, lightest particles get to move, and they are the ones that hurt… Pretty Smart! That’s it!
nah not so much the particales as the conchea. If you breath slowly there isn’t as much turbulance hence it goes straight and not swirly.
Hey, thanks a lot for those great hints. Right now I´m using Wilsons Best Dark, which is quite moist and works perfectly for me. I also find “Gletscher Prise” very easy to snuff. I recently found out as well that indeed inhaling too slowly makes it worse and the explanation by pgcd sounds plausible to me. Well, I´ll just need a little patience and practice, I guess, to also enjoy the “high dry” ones. Thanx again.
i started w.e garrett 3days ago, its not that bad. is there better tasting snuff??
There are better snuffs. Check out the snuff faq at the top of this forum so you can wrap your head around how you just opened up Pandora’s Box with that question.
So, today I found out a perfect method for me that beats all the others. I simply do not breathe in at all. May sound strange, but here is how I do it: I put the tongue to the back of my throat to close the connection between nasal and oral throat, then I quickly move my tongue to the bottem of the mouth still covering the larynx. The result is a short sharp stream of air flowing through the nose into the throat, but not further into the lung. So, the snuff might still hit the back of my throat, but it does not get into the lungs, so I don´t have to cough that hard.
Congratulations! You have learned to close your “blow hole” like a whale does. It often takes new snuffers many months to figure it out.
Yeah, I knew, I was talented
“thatjerk” thanx for the help! What would you recomend as a good tasting snuff?
@ WE red2113 Crumbs of Comfort from Wilsons of Sharrow is very good, if you like spearmint. Crumbs of Comfort Extra is another of my favorites which offers menthol in addition to the spearmint. I would recomend both of those as a tasty must buy. Do you know what you are looking for in a snuff (flavor/scent, grind, dryness, amount of nicotine)? Did you view the Snuff Beginners Guide pdf file (it is attached at the bottom of the page after clicking the Snuff FAQs / Guide tab found above one this page)? The Begginers Guide has a list of snuffs that will give you a broad sampling of the different snuffs the snuff world offers. Ordering each one of those snuffs is recommened to get a good feel for what snuffs appeal to you. It is hard to recommend a tasty snuff because the variety and variables of snuff avaiable is great. Tastes vary between snuff users too. The phrase different strokes for different folks, comes to mind.
Bharata, You are f*ck*ng with us right ?
Also if you drop your adams apple you’ll get the same effect without the funny noise.
@ Micheltn Hi. No, I´m not, it´s just that I´m so f*c**d up by working so much that I need to be a little crazy sometimes…
Ah Enjoy it! Whahaha
