I have been snuffing since 2010, and slowing down on cigarettes, but I still find myself wanting to smoke. How did you manage it?
The first time I quit I used a lot of snus as well as snuff, basically just overloaded on nicotine for a couple of weeks until the thought of a cigarette made me feel nauseous. Pipes and cigars can be a good placeholder, using snuff 90% of the time and having a nice bowl or stogie at the end of the day so you still have that ritual of puffing smoke.
i gave up smoking by swiching the habit to marasotu which is used like snus but probably more nicotine content. Then i swiched to nasal snuff. I think Snus is a good starting point.

Wanting to or “needing” to? One of the reasons I haven’t tried quitting the roll-ups is that I enjoy them and know how much harder it would be to part with them as a result. No will = no will power. Just out of interest, what’s your snuff to smoke ratio? Mine is fluctuating greatly at the mo, but I’m still very new to snuff
I can go through 3 bullets(3-4 hits per hour) of snuff a day. WoS Cherry Menthol until my White Elephant comes in. I also smoke (rolls) 10-15 cigarettes a day.
I’m down to 5-7 cigarettes per day from 20+ over three months or so since I started really hitting the snuff regularlly rather than occasionally (toasts seem to make the most difference); but this is ‘under construction’, there’s still a bit of habitual smoking there that I could eliminate with a bit of effort. I do find that I’m not enjoying cigarettes as much and do often think ‘I could have easily not had that’ &/or about another [nicer] pinch before I’ve finished smoking - which I think is a good sign. I’ve also started having a small pipe bowl after dinner. Mornings and mid-afternoon seem to be my problem times (White Elephant for me too please!). To be blunt I’ll be completely happy with my tobacco use if smoking becomes an occasional rather than daily habit. Snuff wise I’m probably taking a pinch every 40 minutes or so on average, though it does vary both ways
White Elephant that good? I can’t wait now!!!
White Elephant that good? I can’t wait now!!!
Supposed to be a banger vitamin N wise though I have read some comments about it being very fine and somewhat difficult to take (Basement Shamen I believe). I wanted to try some Indian snuffs and it was basically a toss up beween that and Cheeta as I like strong N toasts - Elephants are cuter than cheetas though aren’t they? Definately in my next order!
Let me know what you think of it…
I just snuffed like crazy. If I’d known how good snus is back then (3 yrs ago), I’d definitely have used that too. I was sick and tired of being a slave to fags and wanted to give up. I think that’s key. You need to want to give up.
BTW, get Oden’s Extreme loose or portion, I prefer loose but portions less messy. Guarantee that’ll sate your nic needs.
I used nicotine gum for a while as well as the snuff but without smoking I gradually came to enjoy snuff more and able to take it better and a few weeks ago I ditched the gum and I have no craving for anything except snuff now and it’s more of a craving for the enjoyment of snuff rather than needing a nicotine fix. I’ve noticed also that I feel a lot less tense now than before and I defintiely prefer that change. I wanted to quit smoking because it was to expensive and I wanted my lungs to work better etc etc. I had doubts about succeeding but here I am a couple of months later and quite happy with no intention of going back. It’s certainly not easy initially to make the jump but it gets easier until it’s no problem. Without snuff I doubt I would have made it through. I tried cold turkey many times and every time it got harder so was never going to work for me.
I pick up smoking the pipe, pipe tobacco is so relaxing and interesting with the different variety of tobacco and forms it comes in. I can’t say it is economical because PAD out weighs the savings from not smoking buts. And the surgeon general stated that pipe smokers live longer then non smokers. I try not to inhale and the pipe satisfies the oral fixation. So I never quit smoking just not a slave to cancer stick today
I tried e-cigs and snuff together for the first week but the e-lites I was using were costing £4 a day for refills, so I knocked them on the head and went with the snuff. I’ve given up cigs a few times before and this was the easiest by a long way, forget the patches and gum, they barely take the edge off the nic craving. The thought of giving up smoking is worse than actually doing it. I actually prefer taking snuff now to smoking, more variety, no smell, no coughing my guts up in a morning, cheaper etc etc. Give it a try - you’ve got nothing to lose.
I was a heavy smoker 2+packs a day. at one point 3+. I used to chew Copenhagen when working. I always enjoyed cigars and a pipe occasionally . The cigs were choking me out, but giving up the nic was something I wasn’t prepared for and if you’ve ever quit and started back up, the second quit is so much harder, just couldn’t do it. Switched to natural and got rid of the additives, went back to ryo only natural and high quality, cigs went down to 10 a day without consideration. Knew of snuff, started the research and lurking here for the real “nose” of snuff. Found some in town after much adventure, found recipes and made my own, “not bad either”. Found Mr Snuff and Toque. The buzz I got from homemade and then Grunt, VD and Snafu Plain, no question about it to me. The nic delivery, smells, convenience and sanitary factors are bar none. Blow my nose, or smell like a butt, shiny teeth, or tinted, the coffee and tea do enough. And breathing and smelling I’d almost forgotten. I do enjoy the pipe moderately and an occasional cigar. If the snuff alone doesn’t do it for you, snus or chew are always a good delivery system, puff on a cigar & don’t inhale, it sure smells better than a cig, but first try all of the stronger snuffs you can. I love the snuff, the other forms of tobacco are purely recreational for me. Anything but those American poison sticks is far better imo. “It’s the additives man! It’s like poison man!”
White Elephant that good? I can’t wait now!!!
Also try Fubar Snafu Plain and or Fubar Willie Pete. Also Dholakia super strong toast is the only one that has given me the twitches" I have a nerve thing". Gooood stuff.
Well guys, I smoked 5 cigarettes yesterday and did fine until 2100 rolled by, then I craved one.
I still keep wondering whether I would still like a smoke or not and thinking about it seems a bit fuzzy. I last smoked cigarettes about 3 years ago on holiday and remember really enjoying a mild brand I found (after buying Benson & Hedges in the duty free) but finding it difficult to breath while swimming and they kept getting wet. Just kidding about the last part. Roll ups I gave up a long time ago as I just couldn’t smoke enough of those. Finally I went for mini cigars which were pretty pungent at first and I always automatically inhailed them (larger cigars also) but I could smoke less of those and so with snuff all I had to do was give those up and that was pretty difficult mostly I think because of my inhaling them like cigarettes but now I am gald I did and also pretty amazed that I managed it. Somehow I still feel like a smoker in my mind even though it’s only snuff I use now and really have no longer any desire to smoke. Maybe it will just take longer to lose this feeling but that doesn’t really matter to me. More important is that I never ever ever smoke again. Not even a single puff. Definitely not going back to that prison. :-j Onwards and snuffwards
I did quit cigarettes for around 18 months or so several years ago, loads of NRT etc. but I wanted to smoke frequently everyday, other people smoking even made me envious! A funny thing was that I used to dream of smoking very frequently also. Snuff has largely freed me from smoking, and I feel I could easily stop altogether. But, for now there’s a piece of me that still wants to smoke tobacco in a non-addicted pattern, It would be lovely to just be able to take it or leave it as the occasioanl cigar or pipe to mark an occasion I figure that I’ll know sucess in this path when in my dreams I decline to smoke and start to snuff
I gave up smoking first, using nicotine patches. Then, having been smoke-free for a few months and being used to that, I took up snuffing. This way it didn’t feel like the snuffing was a direct replacement for the smoking - just something new.
I went from 12 years of smoking to Swedish snus. My lungs couldn’t handle the smoking anymore…anyway, I used snus for about 2 years and then moved from that to snuff. Overlap was the key for me in all these situations. Currently I enjoy snuff and have recently come back to snus as well. Ettan Los is my go to snus. It’s exceptional. I haven’t had a single cig since January 2009. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDnfNzmV0FM
