Thinking about ordering some Levi Garret and was wondering if anyone has tried W.E.Garret Honest snuff?
Honest, another fine offering from the Conwood Co. It used to be available locally back in the day. Sat right along side W.E. Garretts on the store shelves. I used to buy on occasion when it was available but it hasnt been available locally for some time now. I know Lil’ Brown just started selling it but have yet to order some. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with it. But of the 2, I would have to give my vote to ol’ Levi. But I would take Honest over W.E. Garrett. There is only slight differences from what I can remember (but again, its been a few years), but its enough of a difference to know that they are different. If you can afford, I would say go for both. Don’t know if you have ordered from them before but they are quick. If I order on Monday, its here Wednesday & thats regular shipping, no express. But thats just from Washington to California. And with the holidays, may slow down.
Thanks Trout. The Levi I had was what you sent me and its just about gone. Really enjoyed it and am ordering from lil’brown. That’s where I saw the Honest. Had a feeling you’d have some insight on the matter. The prices look reasonable but I figured I’d get more from my shipping dollar by ordering some extras. Gonna order large Levi and Honest and a pocket can of W.E. just to sample. Also, I see the ozona Cherry and Packards are cheaper than Mars, as is the W.E., so I’ll probably get those too. Now if I could just find Rooster in a big container!
Does the Honest have less of a smoky flavor to it?
This is an old thread, but I just got my first can of Honest Scotch snuff, so I brought it back from the dead. I have to say, I really like it. Thus far, it is probably my favorite conwood offering. It is very similar to Garrett, as stated above, but for some reason it goes down a lot smoother for me. Its got a really good BBQ smokey flavor to it, but it is mild and not overpowering at all. Anyway, I can’t state it any better than the can already does “honest snuff, honest quality, honest strength, honest weight, honest price, honest all through!”
Nice to see Honest getting its proper due here. This has become my preferred all day snuff. I definitely second that Honest is a fine, albeit *slightly* more smokier and drier, substitute for Wilsons Irish High Toast No. 22. Really, I find Honest to be the perfect American Scotch. It’s not as overpoweringly smoky as Rooster or Bruton, has more overall character than does W.E. Garrett, and it’s more well-rounded than Three Thistles, which I think tends to be a bit on the bland side. In other words, Honest is “just right” – for my tastes, anyway. I’ve been gradually working my way through all of the American snuffs, thanks to Nicotine Rush. I was therefore happily surprised to discover that the local smoke shop where I used to buy my American Spirit RYO cigarette tobacco (I no longer smoke) now stocks Honest. I was amazed to see two entire cases worth and two large tins of the stuff beckoning me from the shelf last week. (I didn’t ask them to get it). I just couldn’t resist buying a couple small tins and one of the large ones. Now, I can’t imagine how many years it will take me to work my way through the large tin, and, yeah, I know it’s unjustifiably irrational, but I nevertheless get a huge thrill out of staring at this behemoth Honest tin on my desk. That mysterious archaic scale must hold some sort of hypnotic power over me.
oh kjoerup that’s not a scale. It’s one of the tools of the spanish inquistion. Long story on how that image got there kind of like 33.
@Bob ahh, yes, the mysterious glass-lined tanks of Old Latrobe!!
someone knows what I’am talking about.
Ah, yes. Rolling Rock. Is that still made?
oh it definatly is. If you live in PA you’ll have no trouble finding rolling rock. Not really my favorite by far. Then again the other famous PA beer I like but am sick of Yungelings (or however it is spelled).
@Bob Is IC (Iron City ) considered hog wash in PA? I had a friend growing up whose mom’s grandmother was a Frauenheim, one of the founders. I tried it and wasn’t too impressed. They did supposedly invent the aluminum bottle, though!!Why, hells yeh!!
Rolling Rock isn’t even made in PA anymore.
Yuengling’s Porter is pretty good. Their lager, not so much. Rolling Rock is just bad. It has a very particular taste, some people really love it though. @ bob: Have you tried Stoudt’s out of Lancaster County? Fantastic.
(Do they have glass lined tanks in Jersey? An-hiester monopoly!!!) On the topic of Honest Suff, I do really like it. I’ve got some Standard Scotch ordered. On the review, one says it has no smokeyness and the other says it has quite a bit. I’m really hoping for minimal smoke-I should just break down and buy a tub of Stokers Plain–that’s bugging me to no end to try!!!
New Belgium Brewery? (should probably make a thread about beer?)
There is a thread about beer someplace. There might even be two. I have not had Honest, I find Standard to be pretty smokey. Navy and Square are among the less smokey ones I have, and Stoker’s of course.
iron city is only good for giving props to pittsburgh seriously I’ve never met anyone who likes it but I have met people who drinking it cause it’s from pittsburgh. Oh yeah as far as pa beers troegs is pretty good. Though check out george romeros iron city beer ads from the sevenities, they are amazing.
What about Pig’s eye pilsner. I have only seen it once in my life, but if I remember correctly, it’s made in PA.
I’d say that Honest does indeed have some smokiness. On the smokiness scale, I’d rate Honest to be about on the same level as Three Thistles. That is, nowhere near as smokey as Rooster, but a bit more smokey than, say, Navy. I too would like to try Stokers, but I can barely justify having a large tin of Honest. What in the world am I going to do with two pounds of Stokers?!
