My first Snuffhouse discussion is about my home made papier mache snuffbox. I haven’t got the skills or the tools to make a wooden box but I realised, not only is this paper a traditional snuffbox material but I also have the materials and knowledge to make a start. It’s taken me about two weeks and five tries to get this far and I’m very happy with the result. The first three had a hinged lid which didn’t work very well (not using a hinge, just forming a box and flapping open one side). The fourth attempt is so tight, it’s difficult to get the lid off. So, number five. I have attached a file because I can’t work out how to get an image here. It’s finished with enamel. The top is decorated with abalone, sealed with epoxy. It seals very well and there is no leakage, at all, of Viking Dark from the box pictured. Today I started work on a round model. I can’t find any other threads about making papier mache boxes. I can’t be the first, so, if anyone else has tried, please let us know the outcome.
