Begs to return Thanks to his Friends and the Public generally, for the liberal encouragement extended to him and his late Partner, during the Twelve Years they have been in Business, and to inform them that the business will in future be carried on by himself on his own Account, and he solicits a Continuance of their Favours, which shall have his unremitting Attention.

THE ORIGINAL KENDAL BROWN SNUFF, for which Brocklebank and Gawith have been so celebrated, will be manufactured from the same Receipt by Samuel Gawith , and every Attention paid to Genuineness.

@n9inchnails      Could be the invention of  Mr. Brocklebank and Sam. carried on the product. Or possibly a joint endeavour. Or even Sams. own invention.

I have found Samuel Gawith two years earlier, on the 1851 Population Census living in Kendal, having an occupation of   Tobacco Manufacturer, employing ten men and two apprentices.  The rest of the household has his wife, seven children and two female servants.

Unfortunately I cannot find anymore about Mr.Brocklebank.  Plenty of farmers of that name in the area, but no snuff and tobacco links.

I shall try and get some more information about Brocklebank.

It looks like a bit more than a three pipe problem Watson.
