British newspaper article in 1908.

Can anyone throw some light on what this was all about?

TOBACCO RIOTS IN KENTUCKY.

The burning of tobacco warehouses and other outrages by the nightriders continue throughout Kentucky, says a New York despatch, and the population of the affected area is being absolutely terrorised by the raiders. On Thursday the extensive tobacco warehouses at Covington were burnt by incendiaries, and damage done to the extent of several hundred thousand dollars.

Does anyone have a clue what was happening here?

It was written over a hundred years ago, but if this article revives bad times in American History for anyone, hopefully the moderators can nip it in the bud before it gets out of hand.

that was from the Black Patch Tobacco Wars between an American Tobacco Company, a monopoly,  which was holding the farmers basically hostage and paying them deflated prices and the farmers got together and fought back.

Interesting. I’ve read plenty about the Whiskey Wars, but this is new to me. I’ll have to do some digging. Thank you for uncovering this, and all of the other historical articles, @ArtChoo! How are you coming across them?

I have just looked a bit further into the subject.    Wikipedia has a quite complex article on these tobacco riots.  Rather than spend a couple hours of typing the information for you, I suggest that anyone showing an interest has a look under   Black Patch Riots.    Well worth a read I think,  frightening times for a lot of people.

P.s. Many thanks to  @Naghampsha   I would not have had a clue without that input.
