Could anyone give me a tip on how to open a JH Wilson large tin? I’ve tried big coins, little coins, keys, pens, banging it. Ah… I just want some snuff
The coin method is the best, but it needs to be as thick as the rim indentation is wide, minus about a millimetre - UK pound coins work best. Take a good firm grip of the coin and push it HARD into the indentation; you need a very firm grip and you need to really make contact with the side of the can, at that point twist slightly and it should pop open. If all else fails, puncture the top with something sharp to release the vacuum and it will come away easily, but you will then need to decant the snuff as the can will no longer be airtight.
Okay I just finally opened it after having it for 2 weeks! I took a pocket knife and put the sharp end under the lid while the blunt side was on the other lip. With a few tries (while I tried not to slice my hand open) it finally hissed and allowed me to indulge in the wonderful SP No. 1! Thanks, Snuffster!
cstokes4, I used a key for a club type contraption for my car, it’s like it’s tapered. But try a dime stuck in the crevice supported by a nickel to twist.
I wonder how they package these tins? They are really airtight! I have 2 Samuel Gawiths in these tins, they are still very fresh and moist.
I just got one. I opened mine with a butter knife. It took some effort, but the right angle of leverage did the trick. I can’t believe you had it for two weeks before you opened it. Once I looked at it I decided that I wasn’t going to do anything else until I got it open. I think the snuff inside is very, very good. I can see myself getting more of this.
I screwed with it for an hour one day. I didn’t want to damage the tin, so I just ended up forgetting about it. Thier SP is amazing. Very good snuff. I love their Top Mill as well.
Next time you get a new tin try a screwdriver, that always works.
I love their SP. It is right now my basic everyday SP. I opened mine with a small screwdriver.
