Hi Everyone

I was hoping somebody might be able to date the 14cc tin of F&T Macouba I recently acquired from eBay. Trying to include pictures to show that the tin is different from today’s tins, in terms of not having the health warning, it states 14cc under the carrotte grinder, and the lid simply states Macouba rather than the rest of the writing on today’s tin tops. Further, it is full of what I believe to be Macouba, but it wasn’t sealed so it is pretty dry. It still has scent, but has a musty, stale quality and not at its former glory I imagine, not ever having Macouba before, I can’t say for sure. However, definitely muted compared to the 3 other F&Ts I’ve tried, DRJRJ, PS, SD. I’ve read many of the articles on rehydration, but risking to ask one more time and wonder if a small amount of bourbon (since one of the scents in Macouba apparently) might suffice for the liquid. Thank you in advance for any insights.

I used to have the date when warning labels became mandatory bookmarked but all my old bookmarks are gone. If your hydrating with Bourbon I would do it indirectly a small water bottle cap full in a seal container with the snuff surrounding it. check every six hours and stir it around a bit for all the snuff gets the flavor .it will absorb plenty overnight. You may want to air it out for a half hour for the alcohol can evaporate.Unless your enjoy putting alcohol in your nose

The tin, and perhaps the contents, was manufactured
prior to 1966 when all figure dialling was introduced (the clue is in the
telephone number). If the contents are genuine then you are in possession of
snuff manufactured nearly half a century ago. Small wonder it’s dry and musty.

Thank you for the information, Gentleman; exactly what I needed.

@Trackerdex - I’ll just point out to you that there’s traditionally no whiskey in the formulation of this snuff;  geranium bourbon is an Egyptian scent oil, not the alcoholic drink!

@MisterPaul - Ha! I feel a little silly…but ended up using Everclear, on hand for cleaning my pipes, which imparted no smell and evaporated fast enough to not soak the snuff. It’s now moist but still has a bit of a musty, stale quality about it; not horrible though. What a great hobby/pasttime/habit we are engaging in! Thanks again, guys.
