Hi all. Getting ready to place another order and wanted a good recommendation on a nice moist to semi moist snuff. I am not big on menthol and would like a flavor profile of natural or smokey, and I also like the profile of Spanish gem. Sps are ok too. Just wondering before I order which new ones I should try. Note: I’ve tried all the Toque snuffs that interest me so don’t worry bout those as I have a nice stash of those and I’m very happy with them.
try viking dark if you havnt. its natural, strong nic , and a nice medium moist snuff that is easy to take and is quite satisfying
Gekachelter Virginie! Smokey and awesome.
Any of the the Paul Gotard or Stok although they are not natural or smokey flavored but moist and easy… kinda like one of my ex-girlfriends : /
Samuel Gawith has a great selection of moist snuff in the natural and lightly scented variety. Elmo’s reserve has a tonka bean scent, Princes dark is nice, KB original is great plain, scotch black is also nice
Gekachelter Virginie! Smokey and awesome.
I second that it’s a class awesome snuff must try.
@basement_shaman took the words right out of my mouth but I would also add Samuel Gawith- Celtic talisman to that list.
@BigDaddySnuff he looking for plain or smokey -The talisman is a desert snuff , and I love it !!! :x
I would third the Gekachelter. It’s pretty awesome.
Thanks Guys. Threw some of those into my next order. Got another question though… Are there issues with the Samuel Gawith tap tins. I dont want to get the 25 grams without first trying it, just in case I do not like it. I notice a lot of reviews talk about rehydrating the tap box… do these not keep well for long, or is there a probelm with old stock. Just curious, I would hate for my first impression of a great snuff company to be a bad one due to a dry tin.
@Grim don’t do it! The snuff will be trash before it even gets to you. If you get 25g and you don’t like it, you can always find someone here to trade with.
@Grim the 25g tin is worth the extra money. SG is worthless in a tap box the day after it leaves the mill.
DOWN WITH TAP BOXES!! At least for anything other than Schmalzlers, or maybe snuff thats supposed to be bone dry anyway. It just don
t make sense.
Glad I have you guys, thanks I will make sure to remove them. Funny thing is I almost ordered and said, nah, ill wait on the great people here to let me know whats up. So I will spend the extra $1 and if I do not like them im sure I will be able to make some of you all happy in a trade, lol
Considering your tastes, yes, definitely order SG 25 g tins. With just 1 KB, 1 rappee, and 1 SP you’ll get a fine overview of SG’s different styles without any overlap. For example, a trio of KB Original, London Brown, and SP Scotch.

@Grim I’d just like to note that not all tap boxes are destined for the trash. Poschl’s snuff in tap boxes is completely fine. I think it’s because they use paraffin oil in their snuffs, which prevents them from drying out. At the same time I purchased a tap box of Samuel Gawith’s Lavender Dark and it was like a pack of pebbles when I opened it. Completely dryed out. So my thinking is German tap boxes are totally fine and I’ve never had an issue. English snuffs, which are forbidden from adding paraffin oil will and do dry out in tap boxes so I would avoid British Tap boxes. Most of my purchases take about 2 weeks to get to me and all my Poschl snuffs have been lovely. My poor S&G’s Lavender dark though…sitting here unloved and crispy. So sad. :(( I hope to try it fresh one day.
Well here are the new snuffs I have in my order I have never tried. Bernard Brasil Doppelt Fermentiert 10g Bernard Klostermischung 10g Bernard Gekachelter Virginie 50g (I take it this doesnt come in a tap box?) Toque Natural Toast 10g Fribourg & Treyer High Dry Toast 25g Toque Lime Toast 10g Viking Dark 25g Samuel Gawith Kendal Brown Original 25g Samuel Gawith Scotch Black 25g Samuel Gawith London Brown 25g Hedges 260 25g (after how strong I heard this was, I had to try it) To edit my original post: I had to throw in those 2 toque flavors, realized I had never had them.
Great order. And enjoy the Hedges, sticking icicles up your nose feels warmer.
@Grim the Gekachelter comes in a box with a bag full of the snuff. Be careful because the bag isn’t sealed it’s just rolled up very professionally. Also if you don’t love Klostermischung I’ll be surprised… but then again I can’t get enough of it so I’m kinda biased. heh Oh! and I forgot to say DOWN WITH TAP BOXES!! (I’m starting a movement. hahahaha)

Ziploc baggies are your friend.
Awesome, thanks guys. Will report let everyone know how this order ends up. And thanks again for all the advice and heads up, saved me some heartache im sure. Also, would you recommend I buy a cheap little smash box to keep the Gekachelter in to take with me while im out and about? Dont really have the cash for a snuff box (a nice one that is)
@Grim I would recommend you get one. Trying to use it directly from the baggy is… a bit messy.
I see mrsnuff has a bernard tap box, I am assuming this would suffice, has great reviews and matches the brand.
Smash boxes are a must. The small black lacons from Snuffgear are best, worth getting a few at once. They’ll stay useful forever, as even if you buy wooden boxes later they are only well-suited for dry snuffs like scotches/toasts.
@basement_shaman I felt the same way about celtic talisman, it was too sweet for me to do on a regular basis. op, have you tried SG Apple?
No, only because I pretty much prefer natural smelling snuffs or citrus ones. I would be up for trying it because WoS makes good snuff, but for the most part fruity and perfumey snuffs arent my cup of tea. Plus, I like eating apples, dont know about smelling them though.
I dont think it will snuff the way you expect it to.
Well I will try it then. I like WoS snuffs so I’m sure it’s top notch.
@Grim That Bernard box is the size of bath soap bar.get a Mr.Snuff rococco or a snuffhouse .org box I own all of them and the Mr.S and his smaller brother snuffhouse .org are by far superior. The MS is on sale now less then the bernard. No brainer
@thorgrimnr rehyrdrate, my man. That stuff is salvageable! @grim that order looks fine. You should be happy with it. A small jar with a good lid should store your Gekacheleter well. Its got oil in it so will not dry out fast. Really it should be fine in the box for months, although for regular use, transfer to a box or empty tin.
@basement_shaman which boxes do you speak of at mrsnuff. Is it the plastic card shape ones they have or can u post the link. I got 2 smash boxes n two metal tins that look like the toque tins. I haven’t ordered yet as I needed to make sure this order is what I need to hold me over for a while.
@Grim Pick u color the larger unos are on sale https://mistersnuff.com/catalog/mrsnuff-plastic-snuff-p-1589.html https://mistersnuff.com/catalog/snuffhouse-snuff-merlot-p-2506.html
Ok, order has been placed. Thanks for all the help guys, im excited to receive it now. Also, I threw in one smashbox, one of those metal tins like toque, and the snuffhouse box. I am sure one is bound to work well, lol
Dang I just ordered a 10g tap box of SG Vanilla with my order. I hope it’s good. Is there way of hydrating the snuff if it is dried up?
