Hello

R

Hi, new to snuff, keen to learn. 45yo, West Country, UK. Cheers Reachy

Hi @reachy, bit like me then, only I’m a year younger What snuffs have you tried so far and where did you get them? Not sure how local you are to Bristol but there is a traditional tobacconist on Baldwin street that sells snuff.

R

Didn’t have a clue where to start so just randomly selected Jaxon’s Extra Strong Traditional Menthol Dark, Ozona President, Ozona Orange and Jaxons 1869. Would like to try some others (non-menthol preferably), looking for a sample pack that gives a broad range to try. Interested in some of the traditional flavours. Not near enough to Bristol to warrant a trip. My first encounter with snuff was at the King Alfred in Burrowbridge that have a tin on the bar - piqued my interest.

Snuff is like food or drink, everyone has their favourites. Some non menthol snuff I like: Wilsons of Sharrow Best SP Viking Blond J&H Wilson SP no.1 Fubar Medic (ok this is a menthol but it’s a lot more subtle than some) The toque range is quite nice too, try toque Natural or Original. I get mine from snuffstore.co.uk which does free delivery once you spend about a tenner. Cheap as. A friend who takes the occasional pinch and enjoys it and she’s never been a smoker except experimenting when a teenager.

Thanks for the advice, will try these out. The range of snuff available is quite daunting to a n0ob like me so any guidance is useful. Been looking at Wilsons as my next purchase, will check out snuffstore.co.uk too. Cheers

Take your time and enjoy it. This forum is a great online community to share ideas and experiences. Another of my hobbies is wine tasting and I approach it in a similar way.

I highly recommend a few for you. Go to ToqueSnuff.com and check out their 10 for the price of 9 10g selection. There are plent of flavors there to choose some. I personally enjoy Spanish Gem, SP Extra, and St. Clements. All non-mentholated.

Welcome aboard, Reachy. It’s a lovely past time, snuff. The variety of snuffs IS rather daunting to beginners, but you’ll be fine. I recommend getting a variety of the many kinds of snuff: Samuel Gawith Kendal Brown Original a Bernards schmalzler a Fribourg & Treyer (for a floral, anyone will do) A nice American Scotch, I pefer Square, myself, but they are similar Toque Spanish Gem and a nice Indian snuff I feel for a beginner it’s best to start in this way as opposed to buying all one brand or all one type. I also recommend trying Samuel Gawith before Wilson’s.

Pop over to YouTube and watch the outstanding reviews by Paul aka “Uncle Squinty”. Enjoy the journey!

Thank you all very much for your advice. Much appreciated.

Looking for ‘variety’… pop on over to Mr. Snuff and check out the bundle packs… lots of options here and they give you a discount off the price of buying individual components. also, if you check Wilsons on Mt. Snuffs site there are a few variety pack options there as well - but in that case you have no idea of what you will get until it reaches your door. Welcome aboard the Snufftrain - may your trip be pleasant!!!
