This might be of use if you are still in the what works best stage. Ive snuffed for 30 years and always used the pinch with a short sharp sniff to get the snuff in. However, I’ve always got the ‘burn’ with this, which for me - often using plain strong snuffs - is not a nice part. I read somewhere about Roderciks technique and have adapted it to suit myself. I now take the pinch between two fingers and actually insert it into the nostril - as opposed to letting it sit directly underneath - I then just inhale steadily and gently, no sudden sniffs. With this I’ve completeley eliminated the burn and can take bigger and more satisfyiing pinches. And for some reason the nicotine hit and flavour seem to be greatly enhanced to the point I’m now getting through one and half large snuff boxes a day - It justs amazing that such a simple change has increased my enjoyment many times over after usinmg it for so long.
Can you maybe explain me in detail how to dit it ? For instance :Where do you put the snuff then, it has to “hold on” to something right ?
Step by step: Take your pinch as usual between thumb and forefinger, keep it a few seconds to warm it and allow the flavour to come out. Gently insert the pinch slightly into the nostril and at that point breathe the snuff in very gently, as opposed to the ususal sharp sniff. Repeat for the other nostril by either using the other half of the pinch - if you can judge that - or by using a seperate pinch. I take one large pinch and breathe half of it into one and then the other half into the other. This bit - as with all pinching techniques requires a bit of timing and practice but if you are new to pinching it really is simple and should come very quickly. The inhalation is as though you are walking into a room where something nice is cooking and you just breathe in gently to savour it. Hope that helps.
That is exactly the way I have snuffed since day 1. Excellent post Snuffster. I could just never put it into words. Stefan
Cheers Stefan
Going to try that - thanks
@Nigel, I’ve tried your technique and it works perfectly. The biggest change for me is that the aroma is so much more distinct. The flavour comes through so much stronger. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thanks Pieter
Great tech. Reminds me of the frank pipe packing method in one major factor. The beauty of this tech is how easy it is to do and how hard it is too screw it up and do it wrong. Not once has it backfired on me or gone wrong. Since trying this tech I’ve been doing mad amounts of snuff. And yes peiter is right really gets the scent in perfectly all the nuances and such.
Its amazing what a slight change can do. I wouldn;t have thought it possible, and thought I had my routine off pretty good, but Ive used this on all types - I suggest it if anyone is going through the standard problem of Scotch/HDT hitting the lungs etc.
Definatly thanks for this heads up it’s great. It’s gonna be my go to for new snuffers. I like adding the spoon to portion my pinch but that’s just for fun.
