Any opinions on Snuff Store’s Golden Pinch Snuff? It sounds intriguing but perhaps cloying… “Golden Pinch snuff is blended to a unique recipe, it is a fine golden brown slightly moist snuff that has the scent of rose, violet, lavender, camphorwood, cedarwood and other floral scents and flavours, providing this snuff with a beautiful ‘bouquet’ which is bound to please the nose. Expereinced customers may recognise Golden Pinch as Golden Cardinal, made famous by G Smith’s and Sons of London. Golden Pinch will be suitable for both new and experienced snuffers. It has a long lasting scent that is pleasantly refreshing.”
I have not tried the Golden Pinch snuff but I do have Covent Golden from the Snuff and Segar Parlour in Covent Garden. It is produced by Gawith Hoggarth to the same recipe as G Smith’s Golden Cardinal and so - presumably - is the same snuff. When I am in the mood for a very floral snuff I find it quite delightful and would not describe it as cloying. The aroma does not overstay in the nose but it is very floral so I would not use it as an all day snuff but it is a refreshing change from time to time.
Yes, very nice snuff - it’s not a heavy or overperfumed scent by any means. It’s similar in scent to old fashioned ‘Floral Gums’, sweets I used to get as a boy. I used to love having a quarter pound bag of those, but I’d often just sniff it - they always smelled nicer than they tasted!
