Has anyone had this experience with Viking recently?

A little over a month ago I received an order that included Viking Thor’s Hammer, I opened the tin only to find something else inside. It appeared to be Scotch Dark. Not a bad snuff at all but not what I was expecting. I received an order last week, cracked open a new tin of Thor’s Hammer, only to be hit with a blast of menthol. I’ve never had a Viking menthol before but this reminds me of WoS Dynomite- not bad but not what I was in the mood for. Just curious if anyone else has had this issue or any insight on it.

I just had this happen to me on the last order i just got an last week i was pretty mad because that is my everyday snuff and i live in nevada and its only once every three months that i place big order. First i thought wow thats some strong amonia took pinch and still menthol heavy i had just run out of my first tin and was dying to have it again fresh as roses. I let air for just a little bit 15-20 mins but in my area its a humidity of 20-30% so i dare not dry it out anymore i already have to rehydrate a full tin after a month of my normal use, which is not too much throughout the day since i am new to snuff. Wrote to Mr. Snuff and they got right back to me credited my accout forna new can of viking thors hammer, thank god i also had 100g supplie as well but i didnt want to crack that open just yet but i had too. Now my old is a third way full of minty thors hammer with viking blond and viking black i attempted to make it something not mentol but its still not what i want next order will have more vikings in bulk supplies as well as more to add to my new devopoling collection. But i have to find new tins for thors hammer that isn’t contaminated with menthol. Using a plastic tupper ware tub to store a weeks a time worth of snuff at a time storing the bulk in refridgeator at this time i hope my bad humidity dosnt screw me up, got the first tin rehydrated but the flavor was half i of what it was. Now i have strong menthol snuff along with the other 30 or so snuffs in my in collection.

Mislabeled WoS tins are not unheard of.

I just opened a tub of Viking Blonde that smells of peaches . It was replaced . That smells of peach too , bur less so . It’s still Blonde but with a definite hint of peach . I thought I was going mad or had Covid or something . Glad I heard about this thread . It’s not just me .

WoS Inconsistency

I’m not really mad, I get that mistakes happen. Just weird that I had never experienced it and then got hit with back-to-back mislabeled tins, was curious how common this was.

Thanks for reporting this.

@Kay has contacted the manufacturer with batch numbers to see what the story is. I will come back and update you when we have more information.

In my opinion we shouldn’t just write this off as human error. If ever there are quality issues
then please report it to support@mrsnuff.com and we will give you a store credit because then we will make a claim to the manufacturer. That way everyone is made whole and the manufacturers receive the message from the consumer that something is wrong.

Not a problem sir! Email has been sent, I appreciate y’all.

I can’t say that I necessarily share the same problem, as I’ve only just had Viking for the first time. But I did find it weird that when I first tried my tin of Viking ISS (which is a menthol) I didn’t get any hint of menthol at all, but when I tried Stormbreaker (which has menthol but not as heavily advertised as a menthol snuff) I got a very noticeable hit of menthol lol.

An update:

The manufacturer has told us that they are unaware of any specific problem with the batches we mentioned.

They confirmed that Thor’s Hammer should not contain menthol, in other words they hadn’t deliberately changed the recipe, and expressed concerned that people were reporting that does.

Finally they told us to refund anybody who wished it and they would deduct it from our next order; so, if you want a refund please contact @Kay and we will be happy to do that.

Otherwise we will keep our eyes open for any other anomalies, although I suspect they will be a bit more careful in the future.

There have been complaints in the past of the bulk plain Viking snuffs being flavoured. I suspect it is cross contamination from the factory, they kept it too close to batches of menthol and peach snuffs and they absorbed some of the flavour.

@n9inchnails yeah that does sound likely

I thought it could be cross contamination but the grind and color seem different; thinking maybe the wrong label got put on.

Yep, a few months ago it didn’t matter where you bought WOS Kendal Brown, You got what I think was Rows of Sharrow. It’s back to normal now I think but I ended up with 3 or 4 tins of it trying to get the right thing.
