If you read through his entire oeuvre you find dozens of references to snuff and cigars, including mentions of specific brands. Good to know PKD was confident that Fribourg & Treyer will still be around in the future. It seems like just about every novel has a cigar smoker, snuff taker, or both.
@cpmcdill I guess I’ll have to read everything then. @smm I know, I’m German. “Pris” is bavarian vernacular language for “Prise” and even written like that on different kinds of bavarian snuff. Some bavarians even say “Pris!” before taking a pinch, just like you would say “Cheers!” before taking a drink.
PKD also re-uses the name Pris across several novels and/or short stories, for different characters. I think somewhere he mentions it is a shortened form of Priscilla, but he is conscious of the relation of the word to a pinch of snuff, and Pris in “…Electric Sheep” is always and only just Pris.
That’s awesome! I love PKD and BladeRunner. Never thought of his character Pris. When you’re enjoying Lose Snus, you have to “bake a pris” before before inserting it into your upper lip (messy to get out, so I only got one tin of that–I stick to General Original portions now, for those times when I can’t snuff).
