After a few days with three of the new FUBARS, I continue to be impressed and haven’t put them down for long. The one that wasn’t included in the International Sampler was the Apricot, too bad but I did get the Rockit/She which is nice, albeit not really my bag, as it were. The flavors are strong and tasty and the fairly moist, fine grind makes for relatively easy sniffing. These also share the excellent Dholakia base made solely with the leaf without stems nor ribs for the added boost advertised. I for one take comfort knowing the tobaccos used are of the high quality I’ve grown to appreciate through the rest of the Dholakia line. It took me a couple days to acquire a taste for the coconut in Grunt but it’s really grown on me quite a bit. This is the strongest of the three, not necessarily nicotine wise, as they all feel similarly satisfying, but in flavor and the pleasantly intense burn. A solid strong snuff that’s already got a spot in my rotation. I wouldn’t say that Medic is all that similar to O&G, but that’s OK because it has it’s own character and depth of flavor. This won’t be replacing O&G as my favorite menthol snuff just yet, but that’s a really tall order. It’s interesting enough to keep some on hand though and an enjoyable diversion. A fairly strong menthol with a lemony character and a nice touch of sweet followed by a strong tobacco finish. This snuff becoming a crowd pleaser wouldn’t surprise me one bit. Last but not least is the Shot of Rum. Another tasty snuff that I’m sure to keep on hand for it’s unique flavor and all around satisfying appeal. A strong snuff with a full flavor, satisfying burn and a great, sweet finish. I did say Grunt’s the strongest of the bunch but this one isn’t far behind. While Shot of Rum is a bit sweet, it’s no candy snuff by a long shot. I’d be surprised if this one doesn’t attract a crowd. All of these snuffs really impressed me with their rich, satisfying flavors and sophisticated character. I for one am comfortable knowing these are manufactured with the best of ingredients and whole leaf tobaccos from an established and trusted manufacturer. As far as beating Rooster though… I can’t say that any of the FUBARs give me quite the satisfaction of Rooster. I hear these have a higher nicotine content and that Rooster is merely sneaky strong due to the dry, fine grind. Regardless, it’s still the strongest and I don’t mind the dry fine grind whatsoever! Perhaps with the same grind these snuffs could de-throne the King, but not as user friendly as they are. Funny name withstanding, these are quite impressive and some of the stronger snuffs I’ve sampled while staying friendly enough for all but the most timid, IMHO of course. Good stuff (apologies for the book).
Well done snuffdog i agree with you these are some very fine snuffs indeed, so much so that Grunt is now one of my absolute favourites and i have ordered several more of these. The Apricot is also very good and a real sinus clearer rather than clogger strong but gentle. I am a little suprised not to have heard more discussion of these new products as they have IMHO real quality to them and are a welcome addition to the world of snuff. Perhaps you would consider adding reviews of these on snuffreviews.com as i believe you are spot on in your assessment. The only problem with these products is the fact that they currently are only available in 10gs i would love to purchase these in larger amounts.
Thanks Big Al, glad you enjoy them too, I was starting think I was their only fan! It’s surprising these aren’t getting much attention yet as good as they are. They do need to be released in some larger sizes, I’m burning through these little tins rapidly. Happy New Years!

Have to agree with that. I was going to order the Grunt with my latest order with Tom, until I worked out how much that came to in pounds sterling. Frightening!
Yep, I was on the fence about ordering it but the International Sampler w/the additional 25% off (surprise page) and free shipping made the difference for me. Hopefully the prices will fall more in line with the competition.
I am personally turned off just by the packaging. It is a little too modern for my taste and the military design seems really tacky. That and, as some of you have said, the pricing is a bit high. I am not one for coconut, but I might have to give Medic a try. Only even considering it because you recommend it, snuffdog. I’ll let you know if I end up ordering it. ~Snuffy
i agree snuffy , military design on a snuff tin??
Just to add a little about the Shot of Rum flavor. I was pretty vague describing this as simply strong with a sweetness that doesn’t cloy. I just get rum, with a good dose of brown sugar. Shot’s more simply flavored than Grunt but it’s disappearing just as quickly. I have some Toque Quit on the way and can’t wait to compare these all head to head. Again, this is not quite a Rooster, but it is more user friendly. I’m enjoying these quite a bit , too bad RnR wasn’t part of the package and too bad about the packaging too.
Shot of Rum: every time I use this I don’t get ‘rum’ at all… but I get this really great smell that is exactly like some little stores you go into (you know those really little old stores in really old kind of worn down little buildings with no windows and no air and just stuff piled hoarder style all over the place… one of the stores I’m thinking of is “Ken’s CB Radio” or “Ken’s Electronics” (slobandtom might know the place)… not as crazy as it sounds especially since as I sit here and think about it I think Ken’s wife might actually be Indian and it also really smells exactly the office of a doctor I used to have (and I absolutely know she is Indian) and her office is clean like you’d expect a doctor’s office to be, but its still really small and crowded and in an old building and also has no windows. its a very nice pleasing smell whatever it is… and so I think Shot of Rum really has the smell of 'little windowless crowded places where Indian people are liable be found" (I really have no idea why, I never even realized until this minute that there is this smell I have associated with people from India… or at least little spaces they may hang out in)
Oh no shot of rum is made of people.
I’ve been sniffing shot of rum for the past few days but I mixed it with some Rooster and I like it, it’s not bad on it’s own either.
I’ve only tried the Grunt from this line of snuffs. I agree, it is good, for me, it’s an instant favorite. Perhaps a bit unfortunate for it’s humble name. Reminds me in that respect, of C&D’s NIght Train - a sublime pipe blend of the same name as a street-bag wine. Despite the suggested image, I don’t find this snuff rough-neck at all, in fact it is very smooth and has a nice relaxing flavor. I don’t get strong coconut, rather a rich dessert-like aroma, which reminds me of cake or macaroons or something, very pleasant. Great texture that facilitates big pinches. No irritation, little run.
‘Night Train’! I used to live more south of where I do, very near the border of Michigan and Indiana my mother’s boyfriend (a moderately well-off enough person, enough had a job that required a suit and has a ‘summer cottage’ and a boat etc) used to love that stuff, it was the weirdest thing… there was this bar right past the state border that sold this wine and cigarettes at a lower price (being ‘just over the border’ into the other state and purchasing them that way to bring back to Michigan being a wee bit illegal to do but peopple did it for hurting over our taxes, this was even years ago) and he used to nevermind the cigarette thing (being as he was from the about the middle of afformentioned cheaper state) would come all the way up here just to get that “Night Train” (apparently it started out as a Chicago-specific wine bought by bums there, at least previously that was abut the only place anybody had ever seen it or could get it) somehow on a whim I had gotten some (I had no idea, it was cheap and better than "Boone’s Farm’ – and I had no clue, I have stated elsewhere that I am really not a drinker) but when he and my mother were here I opened it and drank it with them and he loved it so much he had to know where I got it and used to make trips up this way just to get to that place just to buy it. Sorry that was waay off topic but just a real memory jog there, hadn’t thought of that in years. I really like both grunt and shot of rum for compley different reasons. Grunt doesn’t really smell like coconut to me any more (I think there must’ve been one accidental batch that was really strong of coconut but never again, either that or it fade super fast just from aging), it smells to me now like smelling the end of the dryer vent pipe that goes out side. At least Shot of Rum doesn’t look quite so camouflage-ish. I cant see well enough to really make it out, but it looks like a blue label thats trying to copy a wood grain with a couple of (I only just now noticed at looking hard at it) little bullet marks which I guess I at first thoght were supposed ot be screws in the wood. Anyway not so gawdy/goofy looing as the Grunt label and the name isn’t too telling either. I like them both. I probably won’t try the others just because they have menthol in them. (not a menthol fan) So far I really like every (non menthol) and plain-ish Dholakia snuff I’ve ever had. So far that is, in reletive order tested & tried and have at least 50g of each): Dholakia White Dholakia Black FUBAR Grunt FUBAR Shot of Rum Dholakia Sparrow
I liked the R&R.
Hobo wines are a catagory all to them selves. M/D 20/20 is definatly the evilest of the hobo wines. Next time a crazy hobo yells at you realize he may not be crazy just drinking M/D 20/20. Seriously the only booze that can get you out of the drunk tank because the police say lets just pretend this guy doesn’t exsist.
