Hello guys, I’ve had an idea when I was thinking about a YouTube video where a guy adds gold leaf to whisky; https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&persist\\_app=1&v=gOpf0\\_qRpxs I’m positive you know where I’m going with this… It’s so thin I’m sure it will mix Into snuff, pherhaps a rougher one like F&T Santo Domingo that I have to hand. Any medical reason putting gold in my nose is a bad idea? Has anyone ever seen anything like this?
Gold is an incredibly stable element and your body does not react negatively to it in any way.
That was my understanding. Might it damage my nose though abrasion? Would snuff in the wound be bad?
If you are actually using gold leaf, and you grind it up fine, I can’t imagine that it would be a problem. Gold leaf is only .1 microns thick. It doesn’t hold it’s own very well and I doubt that it would be abrasive.
In order for gold to be absorbed into the bloodstream you need particles in the nanometer range. Adding gold powder or flakes would do nothing except make you look blinged up in front of your friends, they might even want to collect your snots and pan them to recover the metal.
Better would be to make a gold colloidal water first by subjecting pure gold to electrolysis in distilled water, then using that to moisten the snuff. I have no idea how the gold colloids would react with the chemistry of the snuff or other additives though, especially salt. I do know that silver colloids will react with salt to form silver chloride which is useless for medicinal use as the particles formed are too big to enter either the bloodstream or pass the cell membranes of the pathogens you’re trying to kill.
Nice idea though!
Thanks a lot for the info Dan, I’m probly going to go ahead and order the leaf to try this out. I’ll let you know how it pans out… It’s from alibaba so it’s probably going to take a while. I just found out the F&T snuff I was going to try this on was once in Guinness record book for most expensive snuff, rather fitting I’m considering adding gold too it. I want to do this with a black snuff as a background to the gold. Anyone got any suggestions for snuff to use?
Oh and thanks ubiquitous, can’t forget to thank you for the info too bro And if anyone wants to try this themselves; http://www.aliexpress.com/item/25pieces-a-booklet-size-8x8cm-24K-real-gold-leaf-foil-99-99-gold-decoration-beauty-edible/32503276250.html?spm=2114.01010208.3.2.sWgWwH&ws\\_ab\\_test=searchweb201556\\_8,searchweb201602\\_4\\_10057\\_10056\\_10055\\_10049\\_10017\\_10059\\_10058\\_10060\\_10061\\_10062\\_10064,searchweb201603\\_7&btsid=015ad555-055f-4ea0-8b8b-c774db741f76 Gold leaf is actually pretty cheap
that’s interesting about the silver in the Indian tobaccos, would adding liquor too snuff not be harmfull to the nose? Or do people do that? But to be honest I was thinking about getting the gold leaf anyway for art and craft, possibly eat a gold burger like in the picture on alibaba
@GrandDawggy that gold burger did look good. Bacon sticking out at weird angles- pretty girl about to destroy it
@GrandDawggy Liquor is fine. The alcohol should evaporate off and It shouldn’t damage your nose. Alcohol does have a drying effect. If you add liquor, just let it rest in the open for a bit, you could even leave it under a lamp to speed up the process.
Tobacco is often flavored with booze.
you can buy powdered gold leaf in most good art supply stores.
Just one question: Why?
Since chefdaniel asked the question I’ve been dying to ask, I’ll pile on. Seriously, why?
why? because i have far too much free time on my hands to think about this bull sheet.
But for real i honestly thought id google it and it was already a thing, seems just about as logical adding gold to booze…
There is no real point, its a novelty i suppose.
786 I can think of a couple reasons to gild snuff, too esoteric to bear mentioning.
Thanks for the link @GrandDawggy!
