Okay so the first Gold Label i tried was nearly if not identical to Best sp, the one i have now is lighter and finer in texture, way mellower in flavor… like bland dust with hint of… something? and every now and then i think maybe i get a light sweetness in the background… i don’t know but maybe someone can shed some light on this one for me. Edit: oh and im on snuffhouse chat right now if anyone wants to join me.

A

I thought it was a smooth and well nade snuff, and I have reviewed it and praised it for that reason, but its not a wildly fascinating snuff. I think its mostly plain tobacco and the tang in the background is just pure T goodness. I think most companies SP’s are very similar, whatever the label and I remenber reading a comment once, which I think actually came from the Wilson family, to the effect that two of their SP labels were the same thing. This is all from memory as its not a snuff Ive ever done anything but sample a few times

J

i just wanna say after a few more pinches i am getting a little more flavor out of this one but i’m still confused as to why two different tins of Gold Label where so different. Maybe mislabeled or something. and i’m still sticking with dust as the main flavor lol but it’s growing on me.

A

LOL!! Well, we have alot of flavours now, how about Toque Dust??

J

sounds kind of catchy actually

P

angel dust?

A

PCP, Mmmmmmmmm

B

PCP is one of the most frightening drug. Why because if you start thinking that people would actualy pay for that experience it creates a pretty frightening picture. Though it gives me an entrepunalial thought (sorry my spelling sucks) for five bucks I’ll hit you on the back of the head with a frying pan, it should have about the same effect with less brain damage.

S

PCP, ahh the memories…

B

For real?

S

Silly joke, sounds like you didn’t have such a good time on it though, huh. Nope, my days of illicit substances are well in the past.

B

nah it sucks.

A

No Bob, just doing a Homer Simpson, like the time he got sprayed with incapacitant, ‘incapacitating, aaahhhh’!! Just joking man, I would eradicate this sort of shit.

B

I just don’t get the apeal. Of course it isn’t like it’s common where I live so maybe I don’t have a good idea of what it really is. The stuff seems messed up (of course I’am talking gold label not pcp/j.k…)

A

Its about escape, a lot of users of heavy stuff drifted into it because it allowed them to forget something I suppose

J

am i being hijacked?.. lol

B

I guess so. I guess it’s like the times I watch crappy T.V. shows because it’s the only thing on.

J

I thought I read somewhere that the Gold Label snuff was a special Virginia tobacco blend. I have it on my “look into” list for this reason. Not sure here hence the need for looking into. If anyone already has this information I’d be much obliged to have it.

J

yes i believe it is an amercan tobacco blend.

J

okay on further study of this one i think the overall flavor (dusty) is posibly due to being old stale stock or something along those lines. Or maybe thats just how it is which would be a shame because i was hoping to find an american toabacco based snuff that is not a scotch that i could enjoy.

J

In that same vain I have been thinking of grinding up some Sam Gawith full virginia flake. It is a wonderful sweet pipe tobacco. In the next month or 2, I am going to get a snuff mill and try grinding some of the pipe tobaccos I like to smoke.

J

Thanks Joshua…It’s now on the “do try” list. Grinding my own is on the list too but that can wait 'till the recession is in full effect.

S

I’m gonna check e-bay now for snuff mills.

S

Gold label is actually my favorite WoS snuff I’ve tried. Not too finely ground, wonderful scent, nice golden color. I’ve experienced none of this ‘dustiness’ that’s been spoken of.

O

Good morning SaucyJ This is a good thread to breath new life into. In total agreement with you regarding the Gold Label. One of my 1st snuff orders, perhaps second, included a 10g of Gold Label. Suited me so well I picked up a 1/2 drum. Medium to fine grind, moist and I can use this one all day with nothing to show for it other than a smile and contentment. Perhaps there had been a change in the mill since the OP’s dusty round?

X

I have two tins. One is excellent, one is dusty.

O

@Xander Damn the dusty one!

S

Not had a tin of “dusty” Gold Label myself. Medium grind and moistness, deep golden brown, whiff of ammonia, bergamot and the merest hint of rose, and a good tobacco flavour. Reminds me of Mullins & Westley Mature Crumbled.

N

If you look at the labels on the Gold Label, I think you will see a difference. If I remember right, the good one has something like "made in UK"on one side and “est 1737” or some such on the other, and the other doesn’t. It just has “est 1737” centered on the label. I think We had a big thread about that a few months ago. Yes, I just looked. The thread was called “Two WOS Gold Labels?”, but I don’t know how to make a link.

X

I think one tin is just old. It wasn’t bad, just paled in comparison to the fresher one. Its about half gone now. I’ll drop it into the pass box.

S

This happened to me with a tin of Grand Cairo. Every tin has been a wonderful delight of citrus SP pleasure aside from my last one which was somewhat dusty. Unfortunately, its looking like WoS selections are becoming more and more rare for us US consumers. Some sites still have the 25g tins available but my attempts at buying directly from WoS have proven frustrating and unpromising so far. It is easier and cheaper to buy illegal cannabis where I live than to purchase fresh WoS snuff.

B

To buy Wilsons from the U.S. you have to mail them a cheque for the required amount plus a $6 handling fee. It’s hardly rocket science.

P

BM, can’t you email the cheque? So much faster!!!

S

Brad, please see my post on the problems I am having with WoS direct buys. Even rocket science cannot solve indifference and lack of e-mail response regarding billing.

C

@Spyro: The reason you cannot find WoS snuffs at the US vendors (Now UK vendors) is because they are trying to liquidate their stock to make the move easier and albeit cheaper. Soon enough there will be WoS fresh stock available again.

W

Yes, I had problems placing an order, yes I had to send a Check, and yes I received prompt Email responses, and yes the snuff is so fresh it makes me wag my tail. The whole problem would disappear if the Credit card would work. It can be done, and Carol is on vacation this week from the Mill. Persistence. This was my most complex purchase, also my most satisfying.

W

My Gold Label was double shipped, 2 drums, and I am glad. It is a refreshing snuff, silky and moist, a little ammonia which fades fast. The underlying Virginia tobacco really shines through, muted citrus, little burn, and not a particularly strong nicotine, for me, all the hallmarks of an all day snuff.

X

Double shipped? You got a free drum?

W

Yes, and they are shipping the originally ordered Grand Cairo gratis, Score!!!

X

Wow! That’s a lucky mistake for you.

S

@cstokes4 - You are completely correct. One of the vendors even e-mailed me personally and confirmed your post. Here’s to the vendors distributing our favorite snuff and I wish them the best. Thanks for the informative post.

N

@BradMajors - You are right $6.00 check fee and a .98¢ Air Mail stamp, it was easy and I live in a Podunk (small) Texas town. After now having tasted snuff directly from the Wilson’s mill I just don’t think I could buy from a retailer again. The Gold Label I received is so complex and flavorful it makes my head spin.

B

so it is actualy worthy of the name then.

N

@Bob - Yes I think so… I’m very glad I added this to the order…

N

Xander said this is an SP type snuff and I’m a Tom Buck fan by the way but dang this is way more than any SP I’ve ever had and I think he would agree. The scent in this changes every few seconds and last several minutes it’s almost like a blend of spices used for making Christmas goodies.

B

@N0mad: It’s quite an eye-opener getting snuff fresh from the mill isn’t it ? My favourite Wilsons is Irish High Toast 22 which being quite dry you wouldn’t expect to be much different fresh from bulk but it’s much silkier in texture and smoother in the nose.

A

A whole new world of snuff really, even the best cans - Toque and F&T - don’t do snuff its fullest justice. Factory fresh WoS even surpasses Toque in my view, but I suppose they have a couple centuries head start. Also the Toque polybags require decanting into something up to the job the minute you get then, the 1/2 pound WoS jars are 100% airtight and and practically live forever.

N

Brad you are correct, prior to this direct purchase my inventory of Wilson’s consisted of only three types Tom Buck, CoC, DH Toast #20 all which may be several years old. This new purchase has convinced me the craftsmanship @ Wilson’s is second to none. @snuffster I am a Toque fan but I have to admit the product is not mature as that of Wilson’s. The gym socks or wet dog smell as some call it that come with almost all of Toque snuffs after a blow is not very pleasant.

V

Gold Label is fabulous! There’s a promotion for it at Sharrow Mills at the moment:

https://sharrowmills.com/product/sharrow-snuff-gold-label

Oh I wish I were in the UK now! WoS don’t ship outside…

Z

@volunge Indeed. It is my favorite of the entire WoS lineup.

T

I just placed a few tins of Gold Label yesterday on a MrSnuff order taking advantage of the last day of free shipping. I see the one pound drums are on sale now from WOS direct for 17.50GBP. What a deal!

V

@Zanaspus, mine too.

@tinhuey, I hope you’ll get it fresh.

This snuff is so good that I don’t perceive it as SP or whatever type and don’t even care which ingredients are used. Bergamot-shmergamot, citrus-pitrus, blend or single base, whatever is there, I’m just happy this snuff is.

And yes, UK residents can get a drum of this goodness for a ridiculous regular price of six large tins.

T

@volunge Never had it so looking forward. Been on an SP kick since the warm weather broke.

T

Yes this Gold Label is very good in so many ways. It
