Got this 25g tub (just over half filled when opened) from Mr Snuff. As usual read all the great reviews. Well what I seem to have here is some dark moist medium/coarse snuff with basically no flavour of anything whatsover and here was I thinking there should be some sort of nice coffee flavour or something. Maybe has a scent of …water… or very very very very very … mild Best Dark or Sandalwood and thats with my (previously cleaned) nose full of it after 4 or 5 pinches. What gives? I’m assuming this is a total dud. The drip does have a mild tobacco taste so it is tobacco. Next stop. Bin! No point having this around whatsoever. Just watched this review for Cafe 11and Tia Maria gets a mention which seems to confirm I am not alone. Mr Snuff, you should really look at your stock of this and cease selling it immediately. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5cFLQmserA
^^^ How I dislike reviews where 100 words are used when 10 will do! RE : your GH Tia Maria, either yours is dud or you have lost your sense of smell. My tap box of T-M is not moist, certainly is dark & coarse for a GH snuff, and although not super strong it certainly has more scent than the “water” you detect from yours.
Sorry, I don’t see what you have against more than 10 words? Tried it again and again. Pointless. My Irish Coffee/ Coffee Cream still appear to have coffee flavour so I don’t detect that anything has changed with my smell.
i would have to say you did get a dud Tia Maria … i love Tia Maria … great coffee snuff, very solid. But, like you, I also received one that wasn’t full … GH sent me two more to compensate … not sure why their packing process doesn’t account for accurate amounts, but, with Tia Maria, seems to be a trend. I don’t think a call for MrSnuff to cease carrying it is necessary, but someone does need to inquire with GH about the dud you received, and their packing process.

Thanks again @snuffbrant. I would have loved to have received a nice coffee snuff as some have described on snuff store, one review even claiming a very strong coffee aspect. Seems there is something very wrong. The Sea Breezes I ordered was full and also seems to equate to the reviews I read. Good to know that if correct it could have been a nice snuff. Honestly this is just mild Sandalwood.
Stop clogging up the thread with rubbish please @lunecat
@I_snuff_therefore___ hmmm, shouldn’t be any sandalwood near as I can tell … something is certainly amiss.
I couldn’t help noticing in another U-tube review by Tony Snuff that he never mentioned coffee scent once so seems he got something similar also?
I will volunteer to help everyone out here. Send me all your nasty GH Tia Maria and I will dispose of it for you.
i find pretty much all coffee scented tobacco ive tried to be WAY off the mark. cafe 11 is by far the nicest, but its still more of a liqueur like scent. i havent found toque espresso to smell like coffee, paul gotard coffee doesnt smell like coffee, SG black coffee was almost there but had a terrible scent that either overpowered the coffee that was there, or was just a terrible coffee scent to begin with, jaxons coffee didnt smell of coffee and as far as snus goes olde ving 99 isnt really anything like coffee either. even my girlfriend commented on the fact no-one can seem to make coffee work. best bet is probably grinding your own coffee and mixing it with something strong and plain like toque quit or snafu. maybe even toque espresso, but you want something high nic. then you get caffeine too
Coffee Cream and Irish Coffee are both clearly coffee to me and when I add some whisky or Mull of Oa to them then the coffee seems to get even stronger or Lundi foot with Coffee Cream is pretty delicious. I am actually using my Coffee/Oa blend at the moment and all I can say is it’s really pretty good indeed. Very flavoursome. Would be interesting to know if anyone else has bougth this Tia Maria recently from Mr Snuff and how they find it. Was the tub full? Does it have any coffee flavour/scent? Do you detect sandalwood and nothing much else? I think we need smellovision. Didn’t Apple or somebody recently bring out a gizmo for the iphone. Imagine if Snuffhouse had smellovision for reviews? That would be great, if it worked, but I suppose you could still get something else completely in the delivery.
I recived some the week before last and it was the same story. Half full and smells like London Brown, not coffee.
I don’t get any sandalwood in my GH TM. Mine does have some coffee aroma, but it seeems overwhelmed by a horrible perfumed note in the base tobacco that I have noticed with a couple of other GH snuffs (Almond, Strawberry) that I can’t seem to get along with at all.
i do think this thread proves that all folks don’t take the scents in the same manner. I find WoS’ Coffee Cream and Irish Coffee to smell like cow pasture.

The Tia Maria I had was in a tub and it was fresh and delicious. I only really like 2 GH snuffs and they are Tia Maria and Kendal Brown (but I prefer SG for KB anyway). I won’t be buying any GH snuffs again. They’re just not my thing.

on the other hand … WoW Coffee Bite is fantastic.
@I_snuff_therefore___ I’m not a coffee lover and not a lover of coffee snuffs, but I have been here a long time and get strong impressions from what I read over the years. Here is my impressions of some of these: GH Tia Maria: not particularly popular, but has a few fans. Bob is its champion. Often wrongly believed to be a true coffee snuff but is actually based on a coffee rum liqueur: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tia\\_Maria. WoS Coffee Cream and Irish Coffee: Yours is the first time I ever remember anyone saying something positive about them. Most comments regard them as mediocre but not very coffee scented. My 2 cents worth.
I won’t be buying any GH tia maria again ,I also received a dud about a half year back; no scent present . I use it for mixing, the base is still good.
same experience as basement

I think that says more about this Tia Maria than anything. The fact that I find the two WoS fine for coffee, although not by any means strong. They do get better once they dry out a little over time and when boosted by blending and yet there is no coffee or anything really that I can detect in this Tia Maria. The Sea Breezes I got along with it is quite nice btw. Seem to be similar issues with SG Black Coffee. Some people have versions with coffee in and the rest not? Think I’ll stick to the WoS. At least they are consistant. Very strange the whole thing and not at all good.

Thanks @basement_shaman. Your comment on mixing stuck in my mind, even though I didn’t even like the pretty scentless base tobacco of the Tia Maria but I had a go at a blend just prior to binning it and I’ve now got something very good. I started by adding a little Mull of Oa as I thought it would add the tobacco scent and it did but it still was nothing great. So then I though rather than waste more good snuff, could I use up my Morlaix which still gives me the creeps some but when smelling the tubs side by side I thought no, that won’t work but I recently discovered that Princess Special is a great mixer to perk up blends and I have started to get different scents from it that I never detected before and I’m getting to rate that F&T very highly and will now definitely be keeping it as a regular. So I tried to add a little of that but a whole clump fell in and luckily it worked. Then tried my other F&T’s and Morroco seemed to be the best suited and it really was. At this point I had a great snuff but I added some Bordeau after that and it’s still good but did not improve any. So my Tia Maria is now almost like a great F&T and one I’m really enjoying and could use all day. Went outside and the scent was nothing short of fantastic. Not overpowering just a brilliant smell, I think a lot of rose attar and musk and maybe some violet/geranium. So anyone wanting to try to fix your Tia Maria would maybe like this suggestion. Now I’ve got a full tub of this and really looking forward to using it all up. I think only the Princess Special and Morroco are needed but the Mull of Oa does no harm. Don’t think the Bordeaux is necessary. Snuffing. A funny old game. It’s actually so nice that my other floral snuffs now don’t seem as good!
@I_snuff_therefore Uncle squinty nose knows ,he is legally blind, so his sense of smell is finer tuned then us fully sighted snuffers. He was an active member here, but had problems with his computer reader. Keep in mind there are many ways to rescue a snuff that is not up to snuff.
Yes, I’m a big Uncle Squinty fan. The man is truely amazing. Had a great day snuffing my new blend. I can see something like that combination being a regular fixture in my snuffing future, until I accidentally find something even better of course, but I definitely will not be ordering Tia Maria again. It is basically impossible to get a good coffee snuff unless you pay a fortune for a massive tin of Cafe 11 or make your own but the WoS is not bad. They shoud bring out a black coffee version. I’m surprised F&T didn’t have one in the range. A lot of people are after a good coffee snuff and what do we get, snuff were they seem to have lost the coffee part.
I may be wrong, but I think coffee is a relatively new snuff flavouring; the original F&T stopped manufacturing in the 1980s and actually had a much bigger range than the 13 we have today, but coffee is not mentioned, if I remember rightly. Does anyone actually know which was the first coffee snuff? @PhilipS , perhaps?

I get a distinct “Lakeland” scent similar to some of their pipe tobaccos, also described as “soapiness”. It’s a floral/spice/sweet casing that some love and some hate. I’m not a fan. Dry as a bone soap scented snuff is not my cup of joe. Abraxas and S. Gawith do a better job.
For some chemical reason or other coffee is one heck of a difficult flavour to capture in a snuff - it really is elusive and seems to vanish entirely whatever you try, partly why Cafe 11 (after about a dozen attempts) became a bit of a hybrid. A snuff called ‘Coffee bite’ by Dholakia is mentioned in passing by the tobacco/vaping reviewer ‘Tropical Bob’ on Youtube as being strongly coffee flavoured btw.
It just goes to show how subjective these things are… I was quite put out when I ran out of Tia Maria, and was delighted to receive 4 x 25g tubs recently (I have it in my nose right now). It’s one of my top 5 all-time favourites - there’s a sour element to the scent that I really go for. Anyone who approaches it expecting a coffee snuff will be disappointed - but then again it never pretended to be one. I can’t think of another snuff like it; I’d say it’s unique and well worth checking out.
I’ve been experimenting with a few ways to infuse snuff with coffee essence. They both involve infusing a “solvent” with coarsely ground dark roast coffee beans: oil and alcohol. Oil: 1 part mineral oil (prevents rancidity) 4 parts canola oil 5 parts coarse ground coffee beans Crockpot, low heat, 8 hours, strain through coffee filter (takes a few hours, unattended) Alcohol: 1 part coarse ground coffee beans 2 parts Everclear grain alcohol 2 parts Cognac Airtight container, steep for a week to ten days. Strain through coffee filter. Quantities are a work in progress. I used dry Tia Maria snuff and add about 1 part oil to 5 parts alcohol and arbitrarily added to snuff. Steep in airtight jar for a week or two, shaking often. Lay out on plate to evaporate the alcohol and until your desired moisture is reached. Store in airtight jar. Have fun and play with your snuff Sounds like a lot of work, but it really isn’t.
Good going, @chefdaniel. Please give us an assessment of the results!
Mouse; too soon to tell, still needs some more cellar time, but it’s showing great promise. Still some Lakeland scent, but way in the background as a light floral note. I take a sample every few days to check progress. So far, so good & worth the minimal effort to save a questionable snuff. If this works out, next step is some Rustica fine & Natural or Natural Toast…maybe all three. That should kick my azz! Nicotine & Caffeine, two of my three favorite toxins
@chefdaniel a coffee liqueur like Kahlua, should make it easy to scent.
Shaman-Genius! I just happen to have some of my homemade version based on 151 proof blackstrap rum, also homemade. May be a bit sticky from the sugar, but I’ll cut it with some more espresso concentrate and either grain alcohol (190 proof) or rum. If that doesn’t work for snuff, it’ll make a fine beverage.
Seem to be similar issues with SG Black Coffee. Some people have versions with coffee in and the rest not?
Strange. I never had that “issue” with SG Black Coffee and i buy it again and again and… you know it. I have to rule out for it, since it is for me the best coffee themed snuff out there. Hail.
Shaman’s genius idea is looking good after just a few hours. The sugar and vanilla in the mix, along with the rum and molasses make for a fine snuff. I took my first test pinches a bit moist, so I got my “hat trick”; alcohol, caffeine and nicotine all in one. Happy times. Abraxas is correct, as usual. Coffee is a be-yotch to make; I take my mistakes and dump them into a jar; my Gonzo snuff is a collection of near-misses; citrus, coffee, cocoa, spirits, menthol, mint, vanilla and some other scents I can’t remember. All made with an excellent base-Toque Natural and some American dry snuffs. Goofy as hell, but easy to take, good nic hit and fun to hit up frequently. Plus I have a few pounds of it kicking around. I’m spoiled; I still have a half pint mason jar of Smith’s Cafe Royal from the eighties that is a special treat, and I’m trying to get a kilo bag of SG Black Coffee, of which I manage to destroy a 25 gram tin every week or so. I think a snuff intervention is in order. I’ve been known to smoke a large bowl of Best Brown Flake and hoover up a few pinches of snuff at the same time. It’s a sickness.
