I’m fairly new to snuff, I found out about it by buying a tin out of curiousity at my local newsagents and fell in love. I’m also down to 1-2 cigarettes after 2 and a half weeks being a 8-12 smoker before. I haven’t smoked that few in years. Amazing.
I have quite a variety of snuffs so far, and am wondering how to keep or experience more of the flavour. The only ones where I am able to sense a flavour that lasts are Toque Spanish Gem and Toque Coke, and Wisons Strawberry. The rest have amazing smells, but they don’t seem to linger long.
I’m not sure if just that’s how they are, or is it my technique, etc. and was wondering if it’s just a case of just sniffing and that’s it or if there’s a way of savouring the smells and flavours. Thanks.
Flat tins rarely keep snuff well unless they are vacuum sealed. F&T tins are tall for a reason and keep dark moist snuffs well for decades. After F&T closed in 1981 I was still able to buy some of the original stock from Wix in Piccadilly and only finished the last tin a few years ago. Except for occasional tins I only buy snuff in one lb canisters. Apart from being better quality it keeps indefinitely. In the case of Wilsons of Sharrow you can even buy canisters direct. I find that once a flat tin is opened (especially if it demigros) the contents degrade quite rapidly.
and larger pinches. Try doubling the size of the pinch you take - I had taken snuff for years before I stumbled on the fact that larger pinches burn less and give greater flavour. It’s a very simple point but I think a lot of snuffers only get half of the experience because they think they are taking the maximum amount for comfort.
Also to combat olfactory fatigue use a few different snuffs instead of the same one repeatedly. I prefer a good Scotch as an intermezzo so to speak. I am glad for scents that do not linger as they can become quite annoying.
Great advice from our members, as usual. Possibly the strangest advice for a new user is Snuffsters, but it’s perfectly true the larger the pinch the less you suffer and the more pleasure you get.
and when O and G is mixed with tom buck it becomes a real gem of a home blend. 50/50 or whatever ratio you like but they are surprisingly good together. I think there is a youtube review on the mix.
@Theater congrats on the harm reduction process, keep on snuffing and you might be cig free soon. As for your questions on flavor, snuffster made a very good point, and you should take his advice. One of the only other things I could suggest is keep experementing with other brands and all the different snuffs they have. Somone mentioned Indian snuffs for example. Good luck on your endeavors.
Thanks for the comments guys. I haven’t had a cigarette in about 2 days now after I ran out of rolling tobacco and I have no desire to buy another packet, and I cut down so easily to 1-2 for the 2 weeks before that so it seems snuff will be my alternative and I’ll have lots of time to experiment with all the different types.
I’ve actually just received 10 different Toque’s this morning, and the Peach flavour has such a strong flavour to it, almost like a real peach, and I’m taking bigger pinches if I want to experience more flavour.
