What is the german word for snuff out oif interest? Chances are I’ll be going later this year so it would be good to have a bit of background info to aid some snuff hunting (Im also a big liqueur/bitters fan so can’t wait to get my hands on some jagermeister etc for a reasonable price!)Is anyone here german? is snuff widely available over there? Non-menthol ?? Not the Gawith Apricot which I’ve got!!

Yeah apparently it is menthol? It didn’t say anything on the box so i didn’t think it was. And i’m so use to the ozona raspberry i guess after sniffing that religiously for a week the apricot doesn’t burn like it should. Either way it’s still a good snuff. Sorry about the misconception my dudes.

Anything that smells like Vicks is mentol. Even if it’s not labeled.

Well, when you compare the menthol snuffs to just “mint” snuffs, you can pick up the vick flavor. Not to say that the only thing that the Apricot tasted like was vicks. Now try some Gletscher Pris, that’s 100% menthol.

So what? Gawith makes Pöschl? I’m confused! I’m looking at the website, but the description pages are down for maintenenance. I tried some Gawith aka Pöschl Apricot this morning after 2 weeks of not trying it. I hate it more now than I did then. This has to be the most god awful snuff ever created by human hands. I was hawking it out of my upper nose and throat for 30 minutes. Ugh! I’m back to nice Toque and some Wilson’s Queens the rest of the morning.

I also, have always been confused about the Gawith-Poschl thing. It’s like Miller making Budweiser under license while AB is still making Budweiser.

Yeah, well, from what I’ve been reading in these forums the last few months, it seems like its a love it or hate it kind of snuff. With more loving than hating. It also seems to be a lot of people’s first, or in your case first non-American. I got mine as part of a free sampler from Pöschl, so I’m glad I didn’t waste money on it. I won’t dump it yet, but it will be awhile before I try it again. Ick! I still have that taste memory! No apricot flavor at all just…ick! OTOH Gletscherprise and Ozona President: are these also a Gawith recipes made under license by Pöschl? These I don’t hate. I’m no menthol lover, but when I do want some, I reach for the Gletscher.

You’re right. Its not that good. I just don’t hate it. It is better than the Preident. I’m just trying to figure out how all these tie together since OzP and Glesch are listed on GH’s website. I actually wrote them with some questions about this about a week ago. They never replied.

As far as I know Gawith Hoggarth has a business arrangement with Pöschl just as Samuel Gawith does with Gebr. Bernard. Nothing unusual in that and it does help bring various snuffs to a wider audience.

I love Gawith Apricot, have some up my nose right now from a fresh tin. Also have 2 tins stashed away to make sure I don’t run out of stock! This was my first decent snuff I ever tried and as long as it is available, I will use it. I don’t care who makes it from what, I like it!!! But I believe there are a number of snuffs which you either love or hate and this is one of them. Another pinch…AAAHHHHHHH !!! GOOD

I’ll tell you something…I hate Dry Orange by Gawith Hoggarth! lol. As for german snuff…Ive got some Poschl and Bernard on order so hopefully I can provide some constructive comments in the near future

Another German here. Gletscherprise was my first snuff ever (i was 13 at this time ;), i felt like my head was going to explode. I used it over the years again and again and must say that imho it´s a very nice snuff. A classic! Maybe you have to be german to like it to this extend *LOL* who knows? Anyway, the point is, besides the rather huge collection of snuffs Pöschel has to offer, there is a lot more in german snuff. For everyone who has interest i recommend a peek over at snuffstore.de under “Deutsche Tabake”. There is a lot for your nose to discover. Bernard has a huge range of snuffs as well with a lot of interesting ones imho. Old recipes in good´ol vintage packaging for a good price. Not to forget the stuff from Sternecker. After not liking the German snuffs I had tried like Gletscherprise I found Schmalslers and fell in love. The scent of Bernards Aecht Altbeyischer Schmalsler or Poschl Perlesreuter in my nose makes me happy. The only problem with Schmalsler is the low nicotine levels so I follow the pinch of schmalsler with a pinch of American Scotch and, voila, The best of both worlds.

Yeah for sure Schmalzers dont have that much of nicotine BUT it´s perfect to have huge pinches. In good´ol Bayern people drink beer and to every beer they have a pinch or two, with Schmalzers no problem. Anyway, there are fantastic Schmalzers out and i dont want to miss them. Atm i use Pöschel´s Doppelaroma.

Low nicotine levels in schmalzlers? I’ve always considered it on the contrary.

Sometimes, with the only Schmalzler I have which is Poschl Brasil Schmalzler A, I get a good N hit and sometimes I don’t. I don’t know why. But I do love the scent. The one I have that I mentioned reminds me of a Russel Stovers or other gourmet chocolate in the Dark Chocolate with Raspberry filling flavor. I love it.
