Gawith's Air Lock Seal on 25g tins is Excellent

This could be an industry standard. It is on pipe tobacco.

I love them too. They also totally changed my view of SG snuffs.

So, why can’t they use the same, in miniature, for 10g or 15g quantities, rather than those wretched, snuff-dehydrating, finger-straining, plastic tap boxes? If their argument is that tap boxes are cheaper, my counter-argument is: I’d sooner pay a little more for snuff that reaches me in perfect condition, and stays in good condition until I finish it. Smith’s used to sell their own-label snuffs in 1/4 Oz and 1/2 Oz [roughly 7g an 14g] glass jars with screw tops until the end of the 1970s - these did a great job. The irony here is that Pöschl, who have taken the tap-box to new heights of fashion accessory with their designs for President, Red Bull, and [perhaps above all] Packard’s Club, have just reintroduced Radford - in 1-ounce vacuum-sealed tins!

They are excellent indeed, and keep snuff a lot better than tappers, even after the seal is broken. Even Poschl snuff that comes in a foil bag, like the GP refill, beats the living hell out of anything that comes out of crappy plastic dust containers.

So many have gone to tap boxes because J H Wilsons has such success with them. Every newsagent has them. They are designed for the bloke that buys one every couple of days on the way to work and uses it quickly. For a snuff hobbiest who has so many snuffs that he doesn’t use them quickly they are no good.

It’s my plan to keep pinching SG Kendal Brown until I have enough empty tins to decant all my other tins into them. It’s hard work emptying all these tins, but I’m up to the task.

Yeah they are pretty awesome. I imagine they would be good for retailers too because they probably keep for a while if they aren’t opened. I love the SG snuff I just picked up. So sad that I’m just now exploring English snuff outside of the Toque line.

@jazzi_mike Don’t be man. You’d feel the same way if it were the other way 'round. The plain and simple fact is that there are just So Many Varieties and Brands of snuff it seems. It’s nice that you can get lost in them from months to years without ever trying them all and a few years later run into the style that you find Really Suits you at the time. I think that’s a kind of cool thing about it, myself. The F&T tins keep the snuff really fresh as well, but they aren’t vacuum sealed like SG 25g tins are. There’s just a real pleasure I get from hearing the ‘hiss and pop’ of cracking a vacuum sealed tobacco product… Always a pleasure. Distinctly Fresh…and fresh…GOOD!

@Spyro That’s so true! The first SG that I ever bought was Scotch Black in the little 10g tap box. The stuff was So Dry and stale when I got it that I really thought that maybe their snuff was really all not that good. I had always liked their pipe tobacco line, but this was their first snuff that I purchased. Luckily, at some later date, I went out on a limb and ordered a 25g tin of something of theirs, and I am so glad that I did! If I hadn’t done that I would never know what awesome snuffs they produce and wouldn’t be ordering all these 25g tins of theirs right and left because of how awesome they are. First impressions are powerful, and my first impression being that of the 10g tap box, sucked. Luckily, I overcame it…and of course…I never buy anything in tap boxes, at least not on purpose. Haha

The Gaiwith and Hogarth is the primest example of tap box suckage. Before the tubs were widely available on this forum they were roundly hated. After the tubs they are considered to have many must trys.
