I just tried Gawith Hoggarth Kendal Brown for the first time. I do believe that I found a new favorite. What a wondrous scent and great tobacco taste. Are there other snuffs like this out there?
I love this stuff and will be following this thread…
If you haven’t had the Sam Gawith Kendal Brown’s I’d say you must. At least the KB Original is great.
I would suggest trying SG KB Plain, McCombie and Scotch Black. Get the 25g tins not the tapboxes.
I have the SG Kendal brown original. How does the GH compare?
SG KB Original is scented GH KB is not, it is closer to SG KB Plain.
I buy the Samuel Gawith, because of the vacuum tins I know it’s fresh. I love the entire range they have something for everyone
Bernard Gekachelter Virginie and F&T Santo Domingo are quite similar to G&H Kendal Brown.
Isn’t there a GH KB scented?
Isn’t there a GH KB scented?
There is indeed.
GH KB is the best of the KBs IMO.
Thank’s ermtony! I thought that what I have here in an old tub but the printing has all worn out. I think I prefer the SG Original.
I prefer the GH scented KB.
Its the only plain snuff i have,i love this one with a pint of bitter.
Yes, I really like the GH Kendal Brown. Wonderful tobacco flavor. And in the nose it is almost exactly like Bernards Gekachelter Virginie. Funny: Two snuffs not only from different manufactorers but also from different countries and different snuff traditions - and they smell so similar… Nice
I had a tap box of of this and nearly threw it out, as dry and rather boring … I recently put it into a small glass jar and re-hydrated with a few drops of water over a few days Its a totally different snuff now, really good, semi moist, dark and full of tobacco flavor. So what is GH Kendal Brown meant to be like… dry or not ? this now seems be like the base to Covent Cafe Royale to me ? wonderful (going right off these GH tap boxes) Will re order again … I wonder how many people are put off when they get “old” snuff in plastic tap boxes?
@Derek_007 As most know, I think tap boxes are evil and must be destroyed. They’ve done more damage to fine snuff than a million anti-tobacco miscreants could ever hope to accomplish. GH Kendal Brown is a damn good snuff. I wouldn’t be surprised in the least to find out that it is in some way associated with Cafe Royale. Those two snuffs, in classic and modern interpretations, are so similar to the KB it would be hard to think otherwise. I can’t find any scenting at all in the GH Kendal Brown. Just good tobacco, handled with care and respect. If you eliminate the voodoo, magic and witch doctor potions making Cafe Royale, I’m pretty certain you’d end up with a fine batch of GH KB. And happy to have it around. I think we should put a bounty on the head of the inventor of tap boxes.
I have this one on its way to me and really looking forward to it. I love the SG Kendal Browns but they are just a bit too coarse for my liking. From what I understand this one isn’t as coarse? How does the Gekachelter Virginie compare as far as the grind? That’s another one on my “to try” list.

POSCHL! 8-X
@crullers Correct I would not consider GH Kendel Brown to be a course grind, its a great easy to take snuff
It’s worth noting that the SG Kendall Brown in no way wahtsoever resembles the F&T Kendall Brown, the latter being heavily perfumed. The Gawith Hogarth KB mentioned above is a lot like SG KB Plain. The original to me has a bit of citrus, maybe naroli. The F&T is loaded with overpowering florals on top of a freshly-laid tarmac smell. I found it loathesome when I first tried it. The SG Original KB is lovely. Can’t wait to get my 25 gram tin, part of my in-transit snuff order.
Love SG and GH Original kendal browns. Loathed the F&T version, far too perfumed for my tastes.
One of my favorites other than the under filled tubs.
Is it plain or are there hints of anything in it?
Personally it strikes me as plain, but YMMV
Just posted my review of it.
