Consistency: Wonderful grind & moisture content, I could snuff the whole 10 grams like a coke head without discomfort. Scent: Menthol with subtle notes of yet more menthol. It seems the Germans have invented a new menthol variety and named it apricot. This will certainly lead to confusion since in the English speaking world, apricot is the name of a delicious stone fruit.
That’s interesting, I definitely smell apricot.
786 Yea veily, there is apricot therein. Perhaps you had the misfortune to purchase an old tapbox or an off batch? The menthol is definitely stronger than the apricot imho, but it’s not alone. For this reason I prefer Dean Swift apricot, but the Gawith is still nice. I’m inspired to dig mine out now
I was pleasantly surprised by this snuff. I prefer it much more than the German menthol-apricots. While some have said this snuff tastes artificial, I don’t agree at all. It’s fluffy, moist, and easy to take. I don’t detect even a hint of menthol in it.
Has anyone tried the McChrystals Apricot? My next order will be to McChrystals USA, because after all this time snuffing, I have yet to try a single offering of theirs.
@Hitsuzen One of the few apricots I’ve not tried. I will say, if you’re ordering from McChrystals and like medicated snuffs at all, buy the biggest tub of O&G you can afford.
I tried some many years ago. At the time I thought it would make a good beginner’s snuff - if the beginner you have in mind likes apricots. And menthol.
@Zanaspus I have that on the list, along with Mild Lemon and SP.
@Hitsuzen i gave it away because i think it’s like over ripe appricot and a bit stale. but that’s my beginner’s opinion.
I’m very new to the snuff world so take this with a grain of salt.
My first snuff was a 12 year old 10g box of Poschl’s Gawith apricot about a month back. I could feel the menthol but the apricot flavor was definitely present and delicious. With that tin disappearing quickly, I ordered a small assortment which included WoS Apricot. These 2 couldn’t be farther apart. The WoS I’m still getting used to, the lack of moisture is tricky for a newer snuff taker. As for the apricot flavoring, I prefer the Gawith as the WoS does taste like apricot but it’s softer in aroma and seems to have something else to it. I’d never considered menthol mixing well with fruit flavors, probably due to coming from the pipe world where anything minty is looked at with a sideways glance.
@sthbkr77 Welcome to the big wide world of snuff. WoS snuffs can sometimes be a little dusty and therefore a little challenging. They are also very easy to add extra hydration too, which makes them much easier to enjoy. Before you go to sleep tonight, put the open tin in a tupperware box, and put some damp paper towel in the box too, but not touching the snuff. Pop on the lid, leave somewhere warm, or at least at room temperature and go to sleep. When you wake the paper towel will have made the air in the box humid through evaporation, and the snuff will have absorbed it and fluffed up. Job done! If it goes dusty again before you finish the tin, just repeat the process.
I’ll do this tonight, Thanks 50ft
Poschls gawith apricot was my first snuff outside of silver dollar. There is definitely an apricot scent to it. The apricot comes in after the menthol. I’ve found the apricot scent to be stronger when I’m outside for some reason. I thought I was getting acclimated to the apricot scent because after a few weeks of using it the apricot scent wasn’t as strong.
Today I have bought my second tin of this bramd ,for me is the best. The apricot smell is very long
One of my firsts a long time ago. Haven’t had it in a while but would definitely snuff it again. Maybe my next order I’ll pick some up for old time’s sake.
I bought a box of this in my early snuffing days. I did quite like the apricot scent, but the level of menthol spoiled it for me. Not one I’ll get again, but fans of menthol might take a different view.
I’m not a huge menthol, but I really like this one. The menthol does hit up front, but dissipates to the background quickly as the apricot takes center stage.
Same as above, It’s one of the few menthol snuffs that I like and it’s the only Poschl product that I buy regularly. The empty tap boxes also are excellent for reusing with other snuffs.
