With my last order I got my third tin of Gawith Apricot and my first tin of Johnny Apricot. I feel like no tin of Gawith Apricot has ever been as good as my first tin, perhaps it is because my nose has changed. Anyway I decided to try and compare the two of them and see why the hell Poschl would release two snuffs with the same flavor. What I noticed is that Gawith Apricot has slightly more menthol and Johnny Apricot is slightly less. GA also has a slightly sour flavor where JA has a slightly sweeter flavor. GA also tends to get my nose stuffy or runny quite often but the JA one has that clearing effect that menthols should. Now I will probably end up selling my tin of GA to a friend and start buying JA on the regular as I have a ‘Poschl List’ that I usually include in my order: Every Ozona (except for Anis which I am yet to try), Radfords Premium, FC Bayern, Kloster Andechs, Gletscher Prise, and Lowen Prise. It is a real shame that JA is not as widely distributed and therefore has such a high price tag of about twice the price for a typical Poschl. I am curious to know if anyone else has tried JA and has come up with a similar observation to mine, please share your opinions on them. Also, if anyone knows where to find the list of ingredients that are used in Poschl snuffs, particularly these two, please post them, I remember somone posted this link :http://service.ble.de/tabakerzeugnisse/index2.php?detail\\_id=101363&site\\_key=153&stichw\\_suche=lowen&zeilenzahl\\_zaehler=1
However I find it very hard to navigate since I don’t know German and when I click English at the top it brings me to the home page and I don’t know how to get back to the snuff.

After giving it more time, I would say that the Johnny Apricot is far more enjoyable than the Gawith Apricot. It treats my nose the way FC Bayern does by providing me with a very nice flavor that does not clog my nose and is not overpowering in the menthol area. I would strongly suggest that everyone give it a try and that online snuff stores such as Mr.Snuff contact Poschl and try to figure out how it could be aquired easier and more affordable.

Must attribute this to batch differences or age differences. The two snuffs are not only the same flavor, but are the exact same snuff. Johnny Apricot is marketed only in Austria. I presume Pöschl’s contract with Gawith Hoggarth did not include Austria, so they got around it by changing the name. Mr. Snuff obtained these mainly as a curiosity recently, its not normally available. It costs extra because he has to buy them above wholesale from someone in Austria.

And it’s a proven fact that visual perceptions as well as expectations improve foods (so why not snuff).

B

nope since there really isn’t any other kind of diffrence. Though it does mean the same snuffs may have gone into the packages.

V

I tried it thinking it would be the same. I am telling you the whole effect that the snuff gives me is different, it is not placebo, there is definantly a difference. It is easy to say they are the same and save yourself 8 bucks. I guarentee that the two are different.

B

I don’t know. Just saying it’s possible. And having worked in food I can say the presentation is a real part of the experience and not equal to disception. It’s real. I guess what I’am saying is it’s diffrent no matter if the same thing went in to it. Though I totaly would be willing to believe the formula is diffrent between the two.

V

I am well aware of the effects you are talking about. If I emptied out my JA and filled it with GA my nose would get clogged and I wouldn’t notice the apricot because there is a different kind of snuff in it. That certainly precedes the presentation effect.

I have detected a difference on the last batch of Gawith Apricot, lot # 8871. I’ve been buying stock out of lot # 4212 for awhile and the flavoring is now definitely different.  Just wanted to throw that out there.

V

Like I said, my first tin of GA was much better than the two I got after that. I should have looked at the lot number on my first tin, the one I have right now is # 8871. Quite annoying to find major inconsistancies.

Has anyone else actually tried JA? I still stand by it being much better.

I believe you Vito445. I’ve been in your shoes. I rememeber insisting a certain snuff had certain scents in it. And everyone and their mother acted like I was crazy and there was no way it was in that snuff. Then later the maker of the snuff came on and stated the ingredient list and guess who’s nose knew what it was talking about.

N

@bob I’m guessing everyone and their mother

B

no it was me

V

Im going to have to send an email to poschl

O

@Vito445 I have a box of the JA and rather enjoy it, so I can understand where you are coming from. Though, I haven’t tried tried the GA so I have nothing to to compare it to. Your aren’t the only one who has spent the extra to try this snuff. From the reviews I read, I decided to go with the JA for one, it seemed like the underdog of the two in terms of sales. Two, on a review of the GA, someone stated they didn’t understand what the hype was all about. I’m sure there is a difference between the two somewhere.
