G smith and sons

Spanish snuff visited the place to day on a whim told two things that i didnt know or was told whooping great fibs. 1) original snuff was spanish and is a corruption of the spanish word for salary salario or something used to pay their sailors? i personally thought it was ze germans? second snuff is not made using the whole tobacco leaf but rather the steam !?! pounded into powder. tobacco pounded yes but the steam? Spanish is a mild fine snuff with a little citrus kind of growing on me but def felt bent over and raped at 9.50 per 25 g or 23 g tub…

Not fibs persay. The second one is partially right.

If you like Smith’s Spanish (its not the same as the SP) it bears close resemblance to Wilson’s Grand Cairo, which can be had much cheaper (if Stokes doesn’t beat you to it.)

@Roderick: Isn’t SP Extra also a stemless one?

^^ thats what I thought, doesn’t it use Quit as the base?

What’s the difference in stem tab and leaf tab besides the obvious? Is it a matter of consistency or taste? Are there certain characteristics of both that are desireable?

Stems and veins have less nicotine, so deliberatley removing them from the mix, though labor intensive, will increase the strength.

SP Extra is a bloody good snuff, one of my favourites. Stefan

stems also change the flavor. Sometimes this can be a selling point to.

alrightie thats me told!?! g smith spanish very fine Wilson’s Grand Cairo is a little darker corser grind and get more (lavender?) undernotes with that than the spanish. think its lavender somthing lingers after first snort… sorry guys not a sp pro getting some next week so might try comparison then i honestly thought g smith guy said only stems were used… that was my shock guessed they might use the whole plant. thanks all ps Xander ill try and post all future comments to the oher thread. sorry

Mmmmm I might try that- I LOVE Grand Cairo and I miss it so much already…

@salt_n_vinegar: No problems, and you are right. Spanish and Grand Cairo are not identical, merely comparable. Cairo does have a more pronounced lavender note. Still, if you fell in love with Spanish, and then realized how expensive it would be to make it a regular snuff, then Grand Cairo can become your staple for much less.

What is the address of Smith & sons?
