Future of Pfalzer?

C

So we know that Bernards are closing next year and I have heard other names/brands thrown around as to their likelihood of closing/downsizing - such as Poschl and Rosinski (although only Bernards is confirmed from those, that I am aware of)
Does anyone know if Pfalzer are likely to be disappearing too?

V

Obviously, yes. PLS and Allgauer were the smallest ones, I cannot see them affording an upgrade to the new Track and Trace. Even Bernard and Rosinski are leaving the ship (Rene is selling out his flour stock atm).

Poschl are staying. They are big and - wisely - don’t limit their portfolio to smokeless products. Their smokes already come with the new traceability labels:

As volunge mentioned, for certain re: Pfälzer and Allgäuer (and Herr Rosinski has already announced it). Maybe Pöschl might buy Bernard’s recipes and packaging imagery, who knows? But if they did do that, I cannot imagine that they would actually retail more than just a few of them (probably just the most well-known ones like Original Schmalzlerfranzl and F [formerly Fichtennadel], and perhaps Klostermischung and/or Magic Moments).

Sadly, this will continue, but reality is what it is. Only one thing is for certain: snuff tobacco is never going to be more easily available nor cheaper than it is right now. This was true last year, and will be true next year as well. That, I can guarantee.

Thanks for the replies - I’m a little green as to who is who out there; damn shame such wonderful products will be buried by bureaucracy

C

I did see a discussion where it was mentioned that Poschl would be cutting back on a number of their products/ranges - sad times.

So there are a few Snuffs I’ll need to ration out soon enough though.

V

Just a biased opinion of Mr. Lawrie.

C

A point I hadn’t considered

Where did you hear that Rosinski is selling out his flour stock?

V

Just a while ago someone has posted this bit of news on r/nasalsnuff. At the meantime Rene is getting rid only of his Burley, though.

"Ground raw tobacco, Burley, 500 gr.

Since we have to close our business operations in May 2024 due to new, unfulfillable EU regulations, we are selling our remaining stocks of ground raw tobacco.

This tobacco flour is only ground, otherwise completely untreated.

If you would like to try your hand at making snuff yourself, this tobacco is a high-quality raw material.

We ship raw tobacco exclusively inside the EU! Please do not order this product from a country outside the EU."

500 g flour goes for 14.50 € - more than a fair price for a leaf milled fine enough (as reported by another redditor who has already procured a bag) for not messing with grinders and sieves any further. So, a great value stuff, actually.

I really hope Poschl do take on some Bernards. It would be so sad to see over 200 years of snuff royalty (imho) come to an end. I almost have a feeling of guilt the same way I feel about the British pubs disappearing. These are cultural things that have been around for centuries, And because of anti tobacco zealots they’re being lost during our generation! Snuff is such a rich part of our history and certainly Bernards is a rich part of Germany’s too, It should be a protected industry instead of a persecuted one! Imagine the bosses at 6photo in India… They must think how crazy we are closing booming business down! When you stand back and look at it from the outside crazy is what it is!

C

Do you know if he’s willing to sell to individuals in the UK?
