FUBAR Help

So I’ve read all the reviews on the FUBAR line, and I need some comparative help.

One of my favorite grind/moisture combos is the QSnuff line.  The Ice Cool is just perfectly sniffable for me.  The only two products I have tried from FUBAR are RnR and Shot of Rum.  RnR (while finer and a touch drier than QSnuff) is just fine, but I HATE the drier, finer grind of the ‘Shot of Rum’.  How do Grunt and Medic compare to QSnuff, RnR, and Shot of Rum in grind and moisture?

grunt is fine and medium moist. Its perhaps a little less moist than RnR. I dont have my grunt to hand, but will compare when i get home from work.

They are all made by the same company and are very similar really, I would think the flour is the same for all of them. Grunt is far less flavoured, medic is a traditional punchy menthol. 4 of the best snuffs on the market in my opinion.

4 of the best snuffs compared to all of any region?  I may have to try em.

Well…I may just have to put 100g of each in my order. Thanks for the feedback =D

I just made the order:

1 x Fribourg & Treyer High Dry Toast 50g
1 x QWS Ice Cool 10g Box
2 x FUBAR Grunt 50g
2 x FUBAR Medic 50g
5 x Pot Luck Snuff 25g Plus
1 x 6 Photo Kailash 6g

That ought to last me a couple days.

@JohnnyFriday - 4 of the best in the world of snuff imo. There is no planning a great snuff, they just happen. It is quite quixotic I suppose, but there you have it. I have been using the rum snuff all week - just delicous and robust enough to be interesting. My only gripe is it seems I can’t buy the rum and apricot variants in bulk.

@Snuffster _>I noticed your views on FUBAR changed.  And many other reviewers werent as enthusiastic as you.  From what I gather from your reviews, is that you really like the tobacco base, and the flavors don’t necessarily ruin that for you. Is that a fair assessment?

@Snuffster - “4 of the best snuffs on the market in my opinion” , That is one bold statement! But, after all, it is all about that magic flour! Also, I must disagree with your assessment since I may someday have hopes of aquiring more!

It is interesting knowing part the history of this snuff line, and the fact that it has become a classic. Kudos to Namrata and Dave.

Here’s a little bit more history for you.

I conceived of the FUBAR line about a year into my snuff taking ventures. I discovered VitN relatively late in life though I am clearly genetically pre-disposed to love/need it. Nothing wrong with that as recent studies are starting to verify.

I realized after sampling several hundred snuffs that what I really liked were dry, strong snuffs. So I approached Dholakia and asked if the would do a private label line for me. Truthfully it was more of a personal quest than a commercial one. It costs quite a lot of money setting these things up. The brief was simple: I wanted the snuff to be as strong as possible; it should be dry, finely ground flour, and above all pack a punch. Bear in mind that at the time White did not exist.

I figured if all this was achieved then FUBAR would be an appropriate tongue in cheek name. Since most people wouldn’t get it anyway, it would not cause offence, and those that did would probably smile at the ‘inside’ joke.

Grunt was the flagship. It has a hint of musk, though most people don’t detect that. It seems that many detect coconut, but if you know it is musk, I think your brain will pick it out. I am very happy with it I must admit. I used to take it with me to beer festivals. We used to sample out milder snuffs, and hold the Grunt in reserve. Of course the question comes up…what are you snuffing? I tell them it is my personal stash, not for beginners. Naturally, curiosity is piqued and some people want to try. I always warned no; then advised on how to take it (VERY GENTLY). There are not many things more amusing in life than seeing a drunk jock showing off to his pals or girls about how he is man enough to snort a big old line of anything…only to end up blubbing like a baby, forehead planted on the concrete floor, with tears and mucus streaming.

Shot of Rum was simply because I like rum, and it has a naval connotation.

RnR apricot because at the time I was still using Gawith Apricot (it just doesn’t do it in the N department) and also because apricots remind me of beaches where one might have RnR.

Medic(ated) because OnG was my first true love, and indeed still holds a dear place in my heart, though she only visits about one a month these days. It is always a pleasure though.

I am considering getting one more going in the line, based on White. If anybody has any name suggestions or indeed flavor suggestions (the flavor will be very subtle) please let me know. For names if someone can think of something clever, amusing, tongue in cheek and mildly offensive (LOL) that would probably fit the bill.

Dave

White Flag? --coconut Whites of their eyes? --licorice, anise, and spruce Red eye express? --bergamot and citrus flower

If it’s based on white, and is going to be quite different than the other flavors, I would vote for AWOL.

Just my $0.02

Edit:  Hahaha…i just found this one:

BOHICA - Bend Over, Here It Comes Again

Other great ideas at: http://www.acronymslist.com/cat/us-army-acronyms-(slang).html

White out.
White lightning.
White power. (see Dave Chappelle skit first!)
Reville.
SNAFU.
Casper.

I second BOHICA :-c , if it’s based on white that would be perfect.

edm

I like Whalens idea, SNAFU, lol. From what I can tell from what I hear, that would be a very fitting name for a white snuff in the FUBAR line.

I like AWOL. To big a sniff and you’ll be AWOL, at least long enough to run to the bathroom and clean up.

WiIlie Pete/Willy Pete (White Phosphorus grenade)
N-Ration(Like c-ration or k-ration)
Cannon Fodder

I think Willie Pete could be a winner.

forgive this but I have to say: Pineapple grenade (you know)

                                           M(edicated)-16 (a more medicated v. of Medic)

                                           Navy Seal

I second JF’s N-Ration as well…

@JohnnyFriday - Yes I changed my views radically. I realised I was letting my natural scepticism about contract made snuff get in the way of seriously taking time to assess it properly.

And I do genuinely think FUBAR is a very classy snuff and for me, certainly, 4 of the best.

When I did give each of the FUBAR range a good few days each and concentrated solely on the snuff, which is what I should have been doing, I realsied they were very, very good. And rather shamefacedly I became a fan. Now I love the snuff and have periods where I use a good deal of it, like now. The fact is Dholakia made a great snuff, which I was too prejudiced to realise - which is not nice thing to admit too but there you are.

My issue with contract brands is just that I like to know whose snuff I am buying because there are some makers I just don’t like. Calling a snuff by a brandname and giving no details of the maker takes my choice away - is how I see it. If I know who actually makes something I have no problems at all. Just a personal foible that does not seem to be shared by many others.
