This week I received a shipment of the newly arrived Dholakia Toasts and snuffs. I have managed to induce several seizures attempting to acquire a series of reviews of the toasts, they are hard to control! So I put them aside for now and decided to open the 50 gram tub of Grunt. Now I have been a heavy user of this snuff for several years and have a rather large amount of it, all from two years ago. There has been two interim batches of this snuff for sale since then, and neither one of them came close to the original, the last batch in particular having a very cigarish and chocolate taste.
While I found the two batches to be interesting, especially the cigar taste, they both were a major change from the original. I can say that without a doubt that the new batch returns all of the original goodness to the snuff. I keep all of the original batch vacuum packed, and cracked the original seal of a 50 gram tub to compare the old and new. They are the same snuff again, and for that my hat is off to Namrata. I have been keeping track of each new batch and thought some of you may find this observation of interest. There is nothing like the original Fubar Grunt, and I am happy to see it return.
Now if I could only shake the feeling that the new Dholakia Super Strong Toast is toasted Fubar base tobacco! Every time I get enough of it up to check I get a little dizzy, oh my it is rather potent. That weaponized grind gets it home fast. I am very interested in what reviewers think of these toasts, there are four of them, enough to make it a challenge to distinguish the subtle differences of three of them.
I have a lifetime supply, and it holds up well. I just wanted all of those who have been waiting for the real deal to know that now is the time! Right now there are 164 remaining 50 gram tubs on Mr. Snuff. But dag nab it one of those 500 gram “on order” tubs sure would be a comfort to have on a cold snowy night!
I kind of got tired of sending out countless samples during the time of no Grunt, get some now, thank me later. Dave, dab nab it, one of those 500 gram “on order” tubs sure would be a comfort to have on a cold snowy night!
I seem to remember the coconut taste was not intentional, ie there was no coconut in it; in the same way wine can taste of berries or whatever. Not everyone gets that smell by the way.
tobacco aborbs scents which I think may be one of the reasons most snuffs are scented. If the tobacco came in contact with enough coconut scent anywhere in it’s process it would get a little bit of the smell. I’ve also noticed that no matter what brand it is natural snuffs never smell the same from batch to batch. I pick up a lot of things from cigar to tea to musk to an odd almost perfume like scent that is not quite perfume if that even makes sense. All from natural snuffs.
@JohnnyFriday this one to me does not have as heavy of a coconut scent as the original batch that I received on a trade. Dave (Mr Snuff) indicated it was musk in any case. But our noses tell us coconut…go figure
I hadn’t smelled any coconut in it all all, but last night I got a distinct smell of it and I haven’t gotten it again It’s amazing how the nose works sometimes.
It is, and if you can tap into that physiology and understand it you can do wonderful things with flavour combinations; like suggesting choclate when its never been anywhere near any. The old FandT snuffs, way back in time, were almost pure tobacco blends without scenting.
When was the original put out? I’ve got some from about 3 years ago I think. It hardly smells like any flavoring (to me). I had no clue it was scented…
I was somewhat stunned at Dave’s revelation that the original scent was musk, but that explains the “panties” scent that I have never really picked up in any formal manner, although the coconut is clear as a bell on the original batch to me. I do caution that this snuff will need to breath a bit to fully reveal itself. The cocoa cigar scent was always there in the finish. The real attraction for me was the bracing yet very short and sharp sting (endorphin hit) that quickly faded into a most pleasant finish with hints of coconut predominant. The Nic on this one made the effort more of a reward than a punishment. I still highly recommend trying the WoW coconut toffee for the coconut effect, since it is based on the same tobacco flour. I personally find coconut to trigger very pleasant feedback upon insufflation. I still prefer to add a pinch of Wow to the Grunt in my snuffbox to heighten the effect.
