Which snuff is most fruit-like? I thought I’d like floral snuff, but now feel inclined towards fruit snuff. Are there any very fruity ones? I tried SG Apple and the scent was barely noticeable. Disappointing!

F

Bernard’s Magic Moments is extremely sweet and fruity to me.

T

Thanks Is it a fruity mix, or is a particular fruit scent prevalent? Also you mention sweet. I have an issue with vanilla ie I don’t bloody like it… lol is it fruity sweet or vanilla sweet?

G

Magic Moments Black would be my choice as well. It smells just like strawberry shortcake. It’s a party in your nose :-c

X

Toque Pomegranate is my favorite, very fruity! Toque Peach is a close second. I’d recommend avoiding Sam Gawith for fruit snuffs, they don’t do them well, IMO.

T

Aye? That does sound tempting… dunno how we’ll fit a sound system up there but where there’s a will… Seriously though…I’m thinking I should try it

T

Oh Lordy… pomegranate! I bet that’s amazing @xander! Is there a decent raspberry snuff? All the reviews I’ve read described them as pretty dire…

X

For raspberry, either McChrystals or Toque. Wilsons has menthol in theirs, so unless you like menthol go with one of the others.

T

I’ve not had many fruit snuffs, but I have enjoyed Poschl’s - SF Sudfrucht. It’s a damp somewhat coarse Schmalzler. It’s heavily scented and quite sweet. I remember banana and fruity notes really coming through on this one. It’s name means Tropical fruit. Also, Welcome to Snuffhouse!

O

Most of the Toque fruits are done well. Peach is my favorite. Blueberry also very nice The only one I don’t care for is the Cherry.

T

Thanks @thorgrimnr so far, it seems a really cool site with members who appear to actually get on with each other. … that’s novel. Lol I do like banana scents and read recently that WoS have introduced a banana snuff. Yum. Has anyone tried it? I’ve liked their page on FB so I’m hoping to snaffle a few free samples

T

@ohiosnuffer I do love cherry. Do you dislike it because it is cherry-like or because it isn’t flavoured enough? I’ve always felt that cherries and peaches are quite similar? Both highly scented fruits with stones… they often remind me of marzipan lol but Amaretto is made from peach kernels (I think!) and that stuff is like liquid marzipan. Is there a marzipan snuff?

O

@Thora Probably mostly just cause it’s cherry. I’ve tried a few different cherry snuffs some are ok. It’s just my least favorite fruit scent i guess. In a weird way I do kind of like Poschl Ozona Cherry. it’s like having a cherry cough drop in your nose.

B

she cherry is underrated and toque cherry is great and I like the toque cherry menthol even better then the regular cherry (and I’am not a big menthol fan.)

B

Wilson’s Apricot, non menthol, and Toque Pomegranate are the two fruit snuffs I buy. Very different but tied for top spot in the category.Although I may be biased as Pomegranate was my first snuff, or more accurately my first snuff when I decided to get into it as opposed to just playing around when I was a kid.

T

Thanks for all the comments, guys I’m going to make a list of all your suggestions, pick my favourites, then place my first order. I bought and tried my first snuff yesterday and coincidentally, one of them was a cherry menthol. Oh it’s lovely… and the one that’s inspired me to try more The coffee ones seem really popular, but are they a sweet coffee or dark coffee? I think I’d prefer a sweeter one. Any thoughts?

B

SG Raspberry is the strongest smelling fruit snuff in there line. Poschl Edel Frucht is nice if you like menthol WoS Raspberrry is also nice if you like menthol Most Schmalzlar are fruity ,I am enjoying Poschl Sudfrucht now

X

Not sure about marzipan, but add WoS Royal George to your list because its kind of got a marzipan note to it (its kind of an multi flavor snuff, including cherry and almond). I think Samuel Gawith Special M is almond scented, but I’ve not tried it.

T

@Thora in regards to the coffee ones, I have yet to have one that is as good as the scent from actual ground coffee. The ones I have had are definately coffee-ish, but none have gotten a second purchase so far. It’s kinda like those coffee substitute drinks if you ever had one. You can fool yourself for a few moments and think oh yes, just like coffee, but you still miss the real deal.

J

One of my first orders was the Mr. Snuff “All Fruit” bundle. Of all the fruit snuffs, I’d have to go with toque cherry/cherry menthol. But they aren’t exactly a “sweet” fruitiness. SG apricot is a sweet one that I like. For citrus I would go Lime Toast all day, WoS Lemon Toast is a close second. OH, forgot to mention. Toque Strawberry is amazing!

T

Thanks for all the great suggestions I’ve just placed my first order. I’ve opted for: Bernard Magic Moments Black Toque Lime Toast Wilsons Crumbs of Comfort Toque Pomegranate Wilsons Coffee Cream McChrystal’s Raspberry Wilsons SP 100 Wilsons Royal George Toque Coke I really wanted to try the Poschl Sudfrucht, but there isn’t any in stock. Awww. Next time, though! @lunecat … I checked out the Sir Walter Scott’s but jeez, they’re very expensive! The creme de figue sounds totally immense but I think I’ll wait a few months; see if I’m still keen, as they are definitely a considered purchase. If anyone’s interested, I’ll let you know what I make of my wee selection

F

the only fruity snuffs i have bought are poschl’s gawith apricot (id avoid this one) and my first ever snuff was gawith hoggarth cherry. im a big fan of that one (as long as its in the bigger tub, SG and GH tap boxes arent great). its not particularly strong, but i find the scent combined with the tobacco base like this quite appealing. i think ill bookmark this thread and take a few hints on my next order, make it a foray or small adventure into fruit snuff territory, depending on my bank. let us know what you think to those snuffs you ordered briefly here, it would be interesting to see your opinion on ones i already have and use your experience to judge what i should order.

T

@lunecat A complete switch to premier snuffs would mean a career change: from underpaid civil servant to lady of the night. Haha! They are very expensive, but the reviews I’ve read have all been positive. I did want to try the Abraxas cafe 11? Is that right? I’ve read that it’s the best of its kind. Juniper… is that not very floral? Like gin? I really don’t likethe floral one I purchased. It smells like a scented feminine hygiene product. Lol

P

@Thora I don’t think you’re going to regret the Bernard’s Magic Moments. My order of it just arrived - second order of Bernard’s, and I have 8 now, I think it’s love…! Magic Moments is quite different from the other and absolutely delish. Not exactly pure fruit - more like those penny chews of strawberries and cream I knew and loved as a wee thing. Which is a very good thing! Also the Toque Pomegranate is heaven. Very pure, clean sharply fruity scent. I agree with you on the premier snuffs - I am *aching* to buy some Field of Junipers but the price tag is holding me back. I wish SWS did a taster pack!

T

Oh my @polly… I was excited enough, but now I think I’m gonna burst! Haha I do love a fresh strawberry scent. Och, who am I kidding? I’d snort strawberry Angel Delight if I could I think more of the companies should offer tasters; and I think they should be smaller too? But I suppose they want to maximise profit… After all, no doubt they know we’ll all get round to buying the bigger pots eventually, and by the testimonials I’ve read about the premium priced snuffs- once you try it, there’s no going back lol

P

So I heard too @Thora! I’m sure I won’t be able to resist SWS much longer. We should go halves on a couple Although I’m sure we’d miss the little tins. God bless WoS for doing the tiny tins for trying out scents. Awful they might be to pry open (fingernail breakage aplenty) and I hear not quite as fresh, but it means I can buy a dozen without too much pain. I’ve unwisely tried the same with the SG plastic tap boxes and to repeat others’ wisdom, it’s just not worth it: a tap box of Samuel Gawith Blue Crest I just received is like sawdust and has quite put me off SG. The moist Bernard snuffs in the same boxes don’t suffer at all though I’m glad to say. And the cute little pictures <3 Magic Moments kind of *is* Angel Delight!

S

Toque Strawberry is the best strawberry one out there IMO. All of toque’s fruity snuffs are great, blueberry is one of my all time favs. SG Firedance is nice and fruity if you can find it, the Molens Oranji is very good too.

T

I think your wee comment about the wee tins is astute, @polly! They are covetable, aye? I do not know a single person who doesn’t like little tins or boxes. Infact, I’ve shown a few of my female friends my WoS tin and their eyes lit up haha I only bought 3 types of snuff, and just last week. One of them is an SG tapbox (apple) and even though I’m a novice, it’s obvious to me that something is amiss. It does have a pleasant enough aroma, but it’s not apple lol it’s more a dry tobacco smell? Disappointing really. I purchased them in a tobacconists, and I presume they’ve been kicking about in there for quite some time. Lol. Wee boo boo on my part there Have you tried any of the chocolate snuffs? They seem to divide opinion…

T

A few people have recommended the Toque Strawberry, @Skell18 definitely one for my next delivery! The fruit snuff appeal to me because I’m still struggling with the idea of florals… there is something alien to me about it? Every fibre of my being tells me it’s wrong to snort perfume. Lol Have you tried any? Or fruity floral combos?

S

@Thora I love florals, F&T French Carotte is one of my favs. WoS Strawberry is a fruity floral I find.

H

wee selection

I do hope that’s not a Mr Snuff bundle. :)) It took me ages to pluck up the courage to spend out on a jar (glass, no less!) of Abraxas Premium Btach, but it really has been worth it, the stuff is really packed in so you do get value for money. It’s kind of cherries with a liquer scent to it too, so sort of fits your fruit scent specifications, and doesn’t half go nicely after a good quality curry.

T

No, @HR_pufnstuff, it’s not a bundle but rest assured, your sarcasm is not lost on me… If I continue to enjoy snuff (even with my implied inferior selection) I’ll be sure to give the more expensive brands a whirl

M

speaking of chocolate, to drag this thread into a different corner briefly, give Dholakia Swiss Chocolate a try. Now back to the fruits…

H

No, @HR_pufnstuff, it’s not a bundle but rest assured, your sarcasm is not lost on me… If I continue to enjoy snuff (even with my implied inferior selection) I’ll be sure to give the more expensive brands a whirl

It wasn’t sarcasm, just my sense of humour, no offence intended. And there’s nothing inferior about your choices, if we all liked the same scents they wouldn’t make loads of varieties. Of what you’ve chosen I’ve got four - the Crumbs of Comfort, Coffee Cream, SP100 and Royal George. It was a good old SP that started me off on this snuffing adventure back when I was a teenager, then Crumbs reignited it about eight years ago, when I found some in a tobacconist in Newquay. Just got the Coffee Cream, and at the moment I’m a bit underwhelmed - it’s nice enough but I’m not getting much coffee. As for Royal George, I love it, and as I have a cold at the moment and it’s a tickly snuff at the best of times, I’m really missing it! I was going to add the Magic Moments to my last order, having a few Bernard snuffs in my collection (three, actually - two schmalzlers, which have a kind of ‘cooked fruit’ scent, and one regular tobacco scented one, all of which are lovely), but forgot until after I’d pressed ‘buy’! As for the premium snuffs, I confess still have just the one - you get this voice in your head saying “but look how many of those you can get instead of one of them!”

P

@Thora may I make a huge leap in the dark, probably a wrong one! and ask if by chance your local tobacconist is in Leith? Very long shot but I know you’re in Scotland, and I know they sell SG fruity snuffs. Feel free not to answer As for chocolate snuffs, I’ve tried WoS chocolate, which was ok, but to me was more like dark chocolate essence - not unpleasant, but not something I’d yearn for regularly. I’ve also tried Dholakia Swiss Chocolate, which everyone seems to rave about, and which I’m about to post a question about because to me it… smells a bit… of cheese?? Royal George is insane. I wouldn’t call it fruity at all, it’s marzipan and violet. I am in love with the fruity plum pudding chocolatey rumminess of just about all the Bernard’s I have tried though! Toque Strawberry I’m soo tempted to try too.

I

If you are looking for “fruity” as opposed to “fruit” mix Touque Coke with any Touque fruit flavor snuff.

P

That was the one where I bought my 1st snuff. GH Kenal Brown.

Me too! Well I didn’t buy, it was bought for me. I remember those old Herbert Love tobacconists in Edinburgh, such a shame when they shut down.

T

Hey @polly I’m a Fifer, and my nearest tobacconist is in Kirkcaldy. He didn’t have much snuff; pipe tobacco seems the dominant product in the shop- and pipes, lighters etc. I think it has a specialist bookshop in the back and he’s also started selling coffees. Interesting wee place, aye? Apparently there’s been a tobacconist at that site for over 100 years My first order arrived today… that IS quick. I’ve already tried the Magic Moments and I love it. It’s so sweet- I wonder if it’ll stop my early evening Mars Bar craving hehe I don’t think I’ll like the Royal George. I smells floral not fruity. I’ll give it a good go though! I’ve just sniffed some of the McCrystal’s Raspberry. It is yum! Creamola Foam springs to mind Like you, I’ve read good things about the Swiss chocolate snuff, but over the years I’ve thrown out many choc scented products as they usually smell peculiar. Perhaps the complexity of choc is hard to replicate? Or maybe we’re finely attuned to the real deal and nothing else can compare? Haha

I

I meant to say earlier I you want the most realistic fruit experience, try Touque Grapefruit, it the 1st time I tried it my brain was confused by the verisimilitude.

T

@Ivan Thanks for the advice I’m pretty unsure of the Toque snuff I’ve bought. I haven’t decided if I like them or not although I suspect, as I use it more often, they’ll become more palatable I wonder if there’s a nice, sweet orange snuff available? Something not too sharp… have you come across any?

X

@Ivan I agree to that. I thought a squirt of grapefruit juice had shot in my eye from a unfortunately angled grapefruit spoon, the first time I tried it. Having said that, for some reason I never think of citrus scented snuffs as “fruity” I think of them as a flavor grouping of their own, especially since bergamot is such a routinely used scent. @Thora, Since it was my recommendation, I must apologize that you didn’t like the Royal George; its generally one that divides opinions strongly. I get a lot of cherry in it myself, and think of it as spicy-fruity, not floral. Supposedly it is a mix of 20 flavors. Maybe it will grow on you. :-/

T

@Xander No need to apologise. I tried it and I don’t dislike it as I thought I would. I feel quite divided about it myself! Even now, as I sit here with a few different tins, I can smell it and feel strangely drawn towards it. Hmmm. The lime toast nearly killed me haha it’s hard not to inhale it too deeply. I imagine it makes a bloody good ‘wake-up’ snuff

S

Give Molens Oranji a try if you want a nice orange scented one, Ozona orange is very orangy once the menthol wears off but the menthol is quite intense totstart, then goes into the orange.

M

I like GH Dry Orange, reminds me of Saint Joseph’s Asprin for Children in flavor.

C

@Thora - For an Orange scented snuff - and the fact that you are a Scot - I would suggest Mullins & Westley Jock’s Choice. It is like an SP but scented with Neroli Oil which to my nose has a very pleasant orange aroma. You can get it online from: http://www.davy.co.uk/segar-and-snuff-parlour.php Their old snuff menu describes it as: JOCKS CHOICE Originally blended to the exclusive recipe of a discerning Scotsman this unusual snuff flavoured with Neroli is steadily growing in popularity. An acquired taste, but one worth acquiring. I hope that helps.

T

@Chris Did you know that the word ‘jock’ is generally perceived to be a derogatory term nowadays? I stress nowadays, because I shall presume it’s an old snuff. Not that I’m about to get all PC in my old age lol I couldn’t give a fig. I wonder though, if any of the other older snuffs are similarly racist? It’s probably worth checking out… Back to the fruit- I think I’d love a pear scented snuff too? I can only find one type though, and it’s a limited edition.

P

@Thora, glad you enjoy the Magic Moments! I’m addicted already. It does indeed help with my own cakey-chocolatey cravings which must not be obeyed! Next time I am near Kirkcaldy I must seek out this tobacconist I can thoroughly recommend Toque St Clements for orangey snuff: it’s maybe a little sharp, but *sweet*-sharp, and I think mixes well with the Toque tobacco underneath. Not an everyday snuff maybe but YUM. @chris that Mullins & Westley sounds very tempting. I’ve bought too much!

I

There is also WoS Chocolate Orange, to be honest I can’t detect much chocolate but that’s OK because it has the aroma of orange sherbet to me, very pleasant on a warm day.

C

@Thora - I thought that “Jock” might not go down too well but since it is the actual name of the snuff I hoped that it would not cause any offence. I would imagine that the blend has been around for a very long time - well before the world turned PC.

X

I love that snuff. I had no idea it was derogatory? In the US its slang for an athletic person (probably derving from jockey) and also sometimes a man’s first name or nickname. I had assumed the snuff was after someone’s name, someone named Jock’s personal blend. What’s it mean there? I don’t want to get caught using it wrongly.

I

I think in the case of Mullins & Westley Jock’s Choice “Jock’s” might be an Anglicization of the French name “Jacques” (as opposed to the Scottish everyman ‘Jock Tamson’ ) to indicate fancy scented snuff as opposed to unscented Scotched snuff.

T

Like many words, over the years the meaning can change. Jock is mostly used in a derogatory manner, much like Pom or Paki… the latter being particularly offensive. I don’t think Scouser or Brummie have reached that… yet.

S

@lunecat I thought it was POHM “Prisoner of Her Majesty” but when used is said POM. Only time I have ever been called a pom by aussies is during the ashes or rugby, when they were losing!

C

Sudfrücht is a good fruity schmalzler. bananas pineapple, very fruity i often cut it.
