French Carotte

I’ve had this a few days and this was a new one for me. French Carotte is a light brown, finely ground snuff with a medium amount of moisture. In an old listing by Wilsons the flavour is described as ‘spicy’ and it certainly is. When you open the can, you get an intense, sweet aroma that is so strong its almost off putting - in the same way that Royal George can get you. In the nose, however, the flavour is toned down and this turns out to be one intriguing snuff. There is a lot of sweetness there with one dominant flavour. Ive taken pinch after pinch to try and pin this down and my best guess is tonquin, based on the fact that Smith’s used it a lot and it tastes like some of my old collection of Smith’s from the 80’s, especially the ‘cardinal’ range. This is a nice snuff that you would happily take after dinner or late at night, but far too rich for anyhting like all day use. I would say that if you don’t like Royal George, you won’t like carotte.

My two cents: in my experience this is similar but notably more intense than the F&T offering. This is too much for me, though I can take the latter. This scent will likely stick with you for a good while.
