Frederick Tranter Doctor Johnson

I walked into my local tobacconist today to grab a 5g tin of J&H Wilson SP no 1. I felt a bit mean spending only £1.65 so picked up the above as a bit of a gamble as the name doesn’t exactly give an indication of what’s in the tin. On opening the tin I took a sniff and to me at least I picked up subtle spice and fruit, maybe cinnamon and bergamot. It’s light brown in colour, medium fine grind and medium moisture. Once in the nose I get the spice and fruit though it fades rather quickly. I’d say nicotine is medium at best though to be fair I’ve been on the Viking Dark of late. Anyway, I like it though might use it more outdoors as the scent is toned down.

I took it out with me yesterday. After copious pinches I’d say the spice I got initially might be due to the slightly smoky tobacco. The bergamot comes through nicely. The moisture is actually on the dry side so I took one or two throat hits. Nicotine seems low. It’s nicely flavoured though. I’m happy with the purchase.
