The tin looks like its coroded around the edge and some kind of lining is bubbling up in places. I dont see mold and it still smells like elmos reserve, i dont smell mold. I had been looking forever for where it went, now i finally found it, im worried. What are these cans lined with that bubble up like that? I transfered the rest of it to a ziplock for now. Sugestions? Is it unwise for my health to consume?
The black coffee didnt look nearly as bad. Havent opened the kb original yet. And i think i still have a few tins missing. Im just worried, i know i used to put a lot of questionable things in my nose as a teen, but these days I dont want my head to rot out from the inside or anything
When the lids get like that, I chuck them, and I’ll generally put anything in my body. Just seems to me that easily avoided rust up the nose should be avoided.
Might be a bad picture also, a lot of that brown is still the elmos stuck to the side
Hmm, I am generally on the easy going side when it comes to exposing ones self to germs and what not. However, I do strongly believe that humans have built in identification of visual cues that keep us safe. That can and whatever was in that can IMHO are probably not at this point worth consuming. Trust the instinct you had to even ask the question and play it safe by enjoying another snuff today and maybe treating yourself to a nice new order of snuff.
Haha i read that last part about treating myself to a nice new order of snuff to my wife and she was like NO lol
Haha, just explain to her that is for the sake of your health yes?
I would definitely space on that tin. Don’t feel too bad, I just threw away an unopened tin of Wilsons’ Brunswick. It’s so moist it corrodes the tin. I remembered once opened you have to go through it steadily, which isn’t easy given the heavy, heavy, heavy experience but I don’t remember the tin rusting from the inside out.
If it’s just rust around the rim, it may be salvageable. I’ve saved snuff in corroded containers before. Hell, most of my pipe tobacco tins exhibit corrosion around the gasket. It’s all up to you.
When in doubt, toss it out. For me it just isn’t worth it to bother if I’ve got any reservations.
If it smells like you recall use it, if it is nasty don’t. Rust won’t hurt you unless it a nail or a hook, it just taste well like rust; now aluminum corrosion that stuff is bad. F&T tins often have this decay. This is one reason I like to decant into air tight glass jars.
Pull rust out of snuff with a strong magnet. It won’t eliminate the smell of rust though.
Does this happen(the rust)also to unopened(air-vacuumed)tins, or only to opened ones?
Don’t be snuffing rust. I would snuff it! If it feels like you are snuffing rust(you can obviously tell) then chuck it.
