For All The Nicotine Doubters...

I’ve read a lot of posts by people (especially people trying to quit smoking) saying that they don’t think snuff has much nicotine, they weren’t able to detect a nic hit etc. I was the same way too, and I believe it comes down to two things: 1. When your snuffing technique improves, you’ll get more nicotine into your system. 2. Nicotine uptake from snuff is more gradual, so you won’t feel an instant ‘buzz’. The reason for this post is that I have just been tweaking some snuff I made. Nicotine content is about average, no different from my usual SP. I was adding moisture to the snuff, and snuffing it a bit here and there to check progress. I have been quite a heavy smoker for 20 years, so my nicotine tolerance is reasonably high, but I just managed to make myself pretty sick! I admit that during my testing I took rather a lot of snuff, but I haven’t been this sick from nicotine since I started smoking. Sweaty forehead and palms, felt horribly dizzy and nauseous, and I really thought I was gonna throw up for a while. Looking in the mirror, I looked like a poster boy for an '80’s anti heroin campaign- white as a sheet. I’m ok now, but I have learned to treat snuff with respect. Now I’m not going to take that much snuff in such a short period of time, just like I wouldn’t attempt to chain smoke ten cigarettes in ten minutes! So, snuff DOES get nicotine into you bloodstream, and plenty of it…

Yeah, and then it get’s to your brain and turns you into a machine for processing propositions…

I don’t think it’s a matter of technique but a matter of training your receptors, pathways, and such.

I’m careful to take longer breaks between pinches of snuff when I’ve got a portion of extra stark snus in, but even so I’ve gotten to the “slightly queasy and a little dizzy” stage once or twice.  For those of us who are recovering cigarette junkies, it takes more than a little while to get used to the difference in the nicotine absorption rate.  There’s plenty of nicotine in snuff/snus, it just doesn’t hit you as quickly.

my bad was making an overly large pris of es snus and snuffing away until the inevitable queasiness followed by a long rest on the bed.

To me there is nothing quite like packing a lip of Copenhagen Wintergreen and a few pinches of Toque Menthol! I might be overdoing it a bit though hahah
