Hello! I have been smoking cigarettes for past 3+ years and I don’t enjoy it much, but still like nicotine. I read about snuff long time back and it got me interested. Long story short, I ran into a snuff shop today and bought 200Gr of 6 photo kailash. It cost me around $1.5 for 200grams. I have some questions. (*) The date of packaging at the bottom of 6 photo read Dec 2013, so its almost one year old. How long is the shelf life for snuff? (*) As far as cleaning in concerned, is it really necessary to do nasal irrigation everyday? I don’t know how much I will use up everyday, i only took two small hits as of now. But I think I will be a moderately heavy user. Thanks
That’s a lot for a first time snuff. LoL. When I buy Indian snuff locally I never expect it to be terribly fresh, but since it is all usually dry as a bone it doesnt matter too much and since its sealed it should be ok. As far as nasal irrigation goes the nose usually takes care of itself but sometimes I am induced to use a neti pot and its not a bad idea to use daily, can’t hurt. Enjoy!
I have a tin of kailash open from 4 years ago, still does the job and it doesn’t sting as much as when it’s really fresh, but the scent is identical. If you feel bunged up just blow your nose to clear out the snuff and you will be fine.
@saucy_jack @Skell18 thanks for the input. I was pleasantly surprised at how cheap the six photo is locally in India. If this works out fine, I will be saving considerably on my nicotine consumption. I have not felt like sneezing at all till now, nor has the snuff hit the back of my throat. I was kind of worried after reading online that dry snuffs are a little difficult for the beginners, but I did not find it a problem till now. But then again, I snuff with extreme caution. EDIT1: I have been snuffing (is that a word?) like crazy. The cigarettes in India have very high nic content compared to international brands. I think am going to need something stronger than Kailash pretty soon. Although I do have to admit it smells really really good.
A new set of questions. I just got on my hands 6 photo special snuff. 1. It is clumpy. When I opened the tin, it was not even powder, it was all stuck together. Though it’s not hard at all and breaks down easily with a tap of finger. It has a packaging date of Dec 2013. Is this normal? 2. The smell, it smells similar to molasses being mixed with tobacco. I don’t know if you know this smell or not, molasses is commonly mixed in my village to make tobacco for Hookah. Is this smell normal? I am just paranoid about not snuffing it if it has gone bad.
- That’s fine and perfectly normal. No idea why they put dates on them, over here in the UK our snuffs don’t have dates on them. I only won’t use a snuff if it is mouldy, which is extremely rare. 2. Yes it’s normal. If a snuff is very very fresh you will find it has an ammonia scent, that’s normal too, just means it’s as fresh as can be and it goes away after a while.
Kailash and Special can have a tendency to clump, as can many of the not particularly moist English snuffs - someone here called the little balls of snuff you sometimes get in tins ‘snuff bunnies’. It’s not a fault. As for the date, as long as no mould develops and it doesn’t dry out and become gritty (and even if it does you can rehydrate it with a drop of water) if snuff smells nice it’s fine to take. You wouldn’t throw away a bottle of finest malt whisky because the label said it was twelve years old, would you…
I was looking up online for people’s review of the Kailash and people said it was black snuff. I was surprised, because mine was brown. Looked closely at the tin, turns out I was using Super Kailash all the time, thinking it was Kailash. I feel very stupid sometimes.
Don’t be so hard on your self. Snuffing is fun, and sometimes full of suprises ! Enjoy !

As Perique says, don’t be so hard on yourself, it’s easy to make that mistake. In spite of the name, Super Kailash is quite different to it’s near namesake, so now you’re going to have to get some Kailash as well to find out what you’re missing! It’s just the start of one big snuff adventure. By the way, as you continue snuffing you’ll get more out of it, as I believe it takes a while for the receptors in the nose to develop their full ability to stick the nicotine in your system.
Do you live in India, @Kraken ? Or lived there. Asking since you have a good idea of things around here.
I just got my snuff from six photo and the Super Kailash is amazing.
@newbiesnuffer, kraken hasn’t visited this site in awile. If he gets email notifications for provate messages(is that possible on here), you could send him a private message and see if that works. Probably not though.
