First time snuff experience

Hello all, I scored!!finally after 2 weeks of looking I found a place that had snuff. They had Navy, and Ralph’s, I bought both. I just tried my first snuff (the navy). I was too careful at first. Not enough vacuum. Tried again with same nostril. Better. Really loaded up on the 2nd nostril. BURN, no back of throat or sneeze, nada. This is something I think I could deal with. I can not wait for my order to come in. I could not smell or taste anything with the navy, maybe tobacco? my thoughts/concerns 1. nicotine hit required 2. taste (palate, can you discern?) 3. can this be done discretely, cheaper, better than the cigs? Just my thoughts. WAIT, there is the back of the throat drip now, not bad. I really loaded up on the 2nd. Probably the size of a dime on the back of my hand 2mm thick. I overdid it? oh well, anything worth doing is worth overdoing. LOL take care…

Congrats on the score. The excitement won’t fade until you’ve tried em all! Can only say that I’ve really only disliked one so far in my journey, and that was the Dental Sweet Snuff by Conwood. Could of been the can and conditions it went through, but I’m convinced its ground up hay. What’s coming to your mailbox?

The first snuff that I tried was W.E Sweet and Mild. I wasn’t fully aware of how to sniff it because I was innocent enough to believe those people on youtube, and well I inhaled too deeply. I ended up in the back of my throat and the drip was terrible, I think I was coughing pretty bad as well and nearly puked. Although it was a bad experience I kept trying and eventually got the hang of it and now I cannot seem to resist from ordering more, more often than I should. I am now a snuffaholic.

I ordered from mr. snuff 1 Mcchrystal’s orig and genuine 8.75g 1 FT high and dry toast med 25g 1 Torque Lav. 25g 1 Torque natural 25g 1 Garrett sweet 15g It should be here soon. I was frustrated trying to find it. I wanted to try it now…Everyone I asked was absolutely flabbergasted, or said nope never had it. I went into a tobacco store and got the same puzzled look from a very young lady. The only way anybody understood during my quest was when I said, “old ladies”. Then the light would come on. Anyway, one of them asked the other “What about that thing called navy?” I almost yelled yes. I recognized the brand. As I checked out. she said they had one old lady that comes in a buys a box of them every time. I was somewhat embarrassed to have used the stereotype before. Now, no guilt. thank god for that little old lady!!!

I’ve never had Torque snuff. I’ll have to give that a try.

Must have some serious twist in it. Lol. I think some automatic spelling correctors don’t know the word ‘toque’.

@xander. Nope. it shimmies and pulls to the left. LOL

I found Bruton at a tobacco store in Kentucky. The folks at the store didn’t know it was used nasally, and they said they special-ordered it for one guy. This was in a pretty rural area.

The majority of people who buy scotch snuffs at the stores use it as dip.

@tom: Yeah, I even thought that “one guy” may use it that way. I mean, knowing that method is not for ladies only. But I think it strange about that generation of older ladies. I would have thought that it would be mostly these little old ladies’ mothers. They must be out there, but I find it hard to believe there are very many left. I was told my irish (immigrant) great-grandmother did it. Her daughter, my irish granny, smoked cigarettes. ^5

well the thing about snuff is it’s easy to conceal–I use it at work all the time and no one knows. chew (losse/plug/twist) tends to stick out, and even moist dip is pretty visible unless you use small amounts. no doubt the ladies of previous generations thought snuff a more ladylike option. also, I guess using a stick looked even more ladylike (for those who don’t form a pack). it’s not all ladies who use it, of course (though I’m guessing they dominate–particulary in brands like Buttercup and Society). I would guess that men are more likely to use plains like Starr and Navy and strong scotches like Bruton, though no doubt there are women who use those and men who use sweets [at least one of whom uses a great quantity of Carhart’s up his nose, which he got “at the store, boy!” according to an anecdote I read here].
