First order, broken items

Well what can I say? Not even really bummed cause I’m so excited my order is here! So today I received my first ever order of snuff and upon opening the package I saw a bit of snuff scattered throughout the package. At first I thought, bloody customs have had a sticky beak and not closed something properly. But then I noticed it seemed smeared on the invoice, hmmm maybe whoever packaged it had had been snuffing and had some on their fingers I laughed. Finally finished driving in my dirt road and opened the package to see the plastic Bernard aecht to be cracked and leaking, a fair ding in the can of viking blonde but still sealed and no leakage, and the Dholakia white and Bernard jubilaums fully intact  Well I’ve notified the retailer but while I wait for their reply I’m taking the package to the post office to get the damage inspection done, as this is most definitely not the suppliers fault and looks like auspost or royalmail may be at fault. Looks like my first ever pinch of snuff will be Bernard Jubilaums on my way to the post office, to scared of the Dholakia white haha

That’s a bummer. I usually have a little bit of snuff seasoning the inside of the parcels I receive. I figure it’s a small thing considering it went close to half way around the world. You might as well pinch a pinch of Aecht Alt since it has already been creatively opened. I think it compliments coffee quite nicely.

Yes aside from just being ecstatic to get my snuff

it went close to half way around the world.

is another reason I don’t mind so much. Auspost told me it wasn’t packaged properly and to contact the seller, pass the buck government service haha. Pinch I have @gravel‌ and although I got a slight smell of tobacco and fruits tiny pleasant burn I think the dam lemon soda I had has masked my first snuff, time for my second attempt, bigger pinch this time I think is in order. Oh and my mum complained the study smells like piss lol

You have to place giant orders so a thick box is required. Just kidding. But it helps, I have never received snuff in a bubble wrap bag not dented, or the lids were smashed in so tight they were very hard to open. Hopefully the Aecth Althayerischer Schmalzler didn’t dry up too much, its pretty thick and moist so it doesn’t seem like too much should have spilled from the crack. I have been snuffing it all evening, I enjoy it a lot. I would get it in a new container, or put it in a baggie in the fridge until you find something better.

I would put it down to careless repackaging by customs. I’ve only had 1tap box cracked like that, but I’ve had some serious dents in cannisters. Especially in 500 g containers.

Honest question from someone who does is new to international shipping: Does customs open every package? That seems impossible…

If customs opened it you would have had an almighty bill if you’re in oz, it will be a postal carrier at some point in the transit process. Who? No one will ever know unfortunately.

I had broken tins of wos once. HOW DO YOU EVEN BREAK THOSE TINS?!?

Heh. Opening them is difficult enough!

@gravel Exactly! If I cant open one, ill just give it a trip around the world with UPS or royalmail. Surely they will open it by accident for me.

Yes good point @coreymillia‌ I usually order things in bulk but seeing as I’d never tried snuff before I didn’t wanna throw away too much money if I didn’t like it. And true @Skell18‌, although as you can see in the link below “chewing tobacco and snuff” aren’t a restricted import until you cross the 1.5kg mark in Australia http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4369.asp They still can open your package though at their discretion at which point (if the goods do not exceed $1000AUD value) they’ll send you a “tax invoice” i.e a bill with a charge they figure out. However if the value exceeds $1000AUD you will have to fill out an import declaration before they’ll send your lovely little bill followed by your goods once paid. http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4369.asp Charges I could find where: 10% GST on goods value inc. postage. $578.37/kg of tobacco content(or part there of) And a unspecified handling fee dependant on the way the goods are packaged. All in all it’s much nicer an ordeal when customs aren’t involved and your package isn’t held up or charged more than it’s value in fees!

Well, I think it’s a bad idea to ship snuff in anything other than boxes.
