When I receive my first delivery, should I try all of them or should I exercise self-control?

Hey @Thora. I’d guess you’ll end up trying them all! Having said that, it’s worth considering that (depending what you have arriving?) that some snuff’s don’t go well together and that some ‘carry over’ of scent in the nose is likely to occur - Most F&T snuff is very long lasting for example. This could mean that if you indulge in a ‘snuff storm’ and take several in quick succession that you maybe underwelmed by some of the more subtle scents etc. or form unfavourable first impressions of certian blends. Still plenty of time for all that to settle down. Enjoy the excitement of your first delivery and have some fun with it!

Hello @MisterPaul… Thanks for the response I worry about the snuffs going bad. Is that possible? I’m not shovelling the stuff up my nostrils every minute; I’m only indulging 2 or 3 times a day. I have atm a WoS Cherry Menthol, and even though it’s really nice, I can’t take it often as it irritates my nose quite a bit. I’d love to discover a snuff that is more user friendly lol as I do have a nicotine tolerance and the cravings that go with it. Here’s my first order: Bernard Magic Moments Black Toque Lime Toast Wilsons Crumbs of Comfort Toque Pomegranate Wilsons Coffee Cream McChrystal’s Raspberry Wilsons SP 100 Wilsons Royal George Toque Coke I just picked a few fruity ones and some I’ve read good reviews on or been recommended. Have you tried any?

@Thora - Worth doing a quick search of the forum on storage and many of the more senior members (wiser than me! )have posted in detail on that subject: Decanting into dedicated glass jars is generally consider best, but involves some expense in terms of setting up in the early stages. Screw top tins (Toque) I find keep pretty well. Wilsons/McCrystals it’s definately worth at least buying some electrical tape to re-seal them &/or store in the fridge. Not a huge fan of the fruits actually; although I’d personally recommend both Sir Walter Scotts Creme du Figue and Abraxas Cerese as they are excellent. From your order I’m fond of Royal George, Crumbs of Comfort, SP100 & Lime Toast - It seems a well reseached order of fruity choices though, so I’m sure that you’ll enjoy it

@Thora be aware if you decide to try a bunch that you could feel a little sick from all the nicotine. So if you want to sample 3 or 4 in quick succession, take little pinches. 3-4 full size pinches in under 10 minutes could have your head spinning. I used to do this when I would get new snuffs, I would get so excited with all the new scents and take too much. :-&

@MisterPaul I’ve looked into the SwS CdF but it’s just too expensive an option for a complete novice. I definitely will try them at sone point, if only because I’m Scottish and it appeals to my nationalistic side. Lol Thanks @thorgrimnr I have quite a high nicotine tolerance, so I’m not overly concerned about feeling nauseous. I’ve smoked filter less spliffs for years and I don’t think I even get a nic buzz at all now. . It just alleviates my cravings. I do hope there’s a snuff in my delivery that’ll control my cravings without ripping my nose apart lol I desperately want to stop smoking, aye?

Snuff will certainly fill the nicotine demand. Keep dosing until it feels right. Toque lime toast would be the one I would think to kill the cig cravings of all that you have listed.

How much is the average pinch? I have no idea! I’ve been using a wee spoon, because it’s cleaner and dare I say, a little more lady-like I’m sure the purists will baulk at that. … but I find pinching quite difficult. Either my fingers are too fat or my nostrils too small. Haha

@Thora I don’t think anyone has the definitive answer for how much is in a pinch…how long is a piece of string? It all comes with experience and finding what works. I did an experiment once to test nicotine strength in some Taxi Red as I heard so much about it being nic high. Well 2 big pinches in each nostril and 20 minutes later I was off to the loo, getting sick. So I know where my threshold is with that snuff…and it was stronger than anything I experienced as a smoker. I now know that snuff will satisfy. So take as much as you like, keep practicing and you’ll find your dose and method. Fortunately practice makes perfect. :-bd

@thorgrimnr My question was largely rhetorical, but you’ve made some fine points and thanks for the advice. It’s appreciated. I read about people packing their noses, and it fascinates me. Would anyone be able to pack their noses with a menthol? How the hell doesn’t it hurt?? I know for a fact that it would blow my head off and possibly melt my face. Lol:-)

@Thora I think the nose packers, are folks at German Schmalzler fests…they compete to pack in as much as possible. I think you would indeed blow off your nose if packed like that with a menthol. @-)

Everyone knows a piece of string is 3 inches long. A length of string is one foot. Sheesh!

Pinch size DOES vary but I would say most will agree that a pinch is somewhere between a small apple pip and a fat green pea. I am definitely toward the apple pip end of the spectrum and “most” snuff spoons I’ve encountered seem that size as well, unless you really stack it up. In regards to ladies using a spoon vs. a pinch, IMO the spoon does seem more elegant and harken back to a time in which, for both sexes the a lot snuff ephemera was quite ornate, perhaps too much so to appeal to the tastes of most contemporary men, thus I’m glad there are women snuffers around to appreciate and possibly use the stuff. My vote on your order is to go crazy and sample tiny amounts of each throughout the day, that is what I usually do.

@Ivan I’ve dropped my 1883 gilded snuff spoon of SWS AA over my fur coat and velvet breeches (I think there’s even some on my shoe buckel) at this comment! @Thora; have long nails? Pinching will take a bit of practice! If you do have nails it is possible to descretly scoop a little out on the inside of your thumb nail and use it like a spoon.

i think one pinch is 1/20 or less of one gram snuff but it depends according to the type of the snuff. For nicotine buzz i take 6 pinches for each nostril. It can be non-mentholated or heavily mentholated like Hedges but i clean my nose in 2 minutes generally. If you take only a few pinches a day choose what you want but again for me going with one tin until i empty it, is the best but it is hard to stop trying others.

@MisterPaul Aye, my nails are a decent length but I don’t fancy staining them brown hehe the little spoons suffice, although I’m prob missing out on scent a little… but I’m far too new to this to distinguish between warm, pinched snuff and snuff from a wee spoon

You will have a collection,You may have to get a second job ,I like the sterling silver boxes best. If you want warm snuff just carry it in your pants pocket.

@Thora I think Toque is based in either Ireland or Scotland right? Can you find Toque or any other snuffs in your local stores? My Aunt and Uncle just got back from Scotland about a month ago and I would have asked them to pick up some snuffs and bring them back to the US with them but I never got around to asking them, lol. Also, I would try all of the snuffs in your first order when you get them but be sure to wait around 15 minutes in between each one. Blowing or cleaning out the nose in between snuffs might be a good idea as well but in my experience, right after you blow your nose, if you take a pinch of snuff it will burn in your nose more than it normally would if you hadn’t blown your nose in a while whether you’ve been snuffing or not.

@md363 Anything with menthol seems quite rough on my nose. I enjoy it initially, but after 3 or 4 sniffs, I look like I’m sporting a clown nose. … and I loathe clowns. Lol I wonder… with continual snuff use, does the nose show any outwardly signs? Am I risking being permanently red-nosed? That would be a bother tbh. Lol

@Thora I have been snuffing every day now for about 2 or 3 months and my nose does not show any redness or anything like that so I think you should be fine. However, certain types of snuff like mentholated or medicated snuffs might irritate your nose more until you get used to them.

I rarely do menthol, as 99 percent of the time it has a negative effect on me… ( I do have every South African Menthol and those are okay in tiny amounts…other countries Menthols … you can keep em! toque clove and camphor same thing ! f ANYHOW, I can live without any Menthols … I got hundreds of other snuffs to enjoy… I know there ain’t anyone who shoves taxi red up as I far as I do … Lol … GOD BLESS TAXI RED!!!

Being of the fairer sex you can carry a purse or hand bag ,I figure that is where you would carry your snuff. Bringing snuff up to body temperature does improve the flavor of some snuff and does nothing for others. That is why it is suggest to warn the snuff between your fingers prier to use. I carry mine in a pipe bag attached to my belt loop. I have holsters but they only fit snuff house.org boxes. I like to have plenty of variety at easy access.

@lunecat here they are called panties for woman. Never the less where you carry your snuff ,if you want it warm keep it close to your epidermis . English is a hard ever evolving language.

After reading this thread, I’m reminiscing about my first mail order snuff delivery! It was from Nicotine Rush back in January 2009. (I got a few free samples about the same time so its hard too remember who got here first, also an order from Mr. Snuff came about a week later) Also I had about three snuffs on hand prior that were in my storage boxes from years before or found locally. Anyway, I think these were the first proper mail order batch, if I remember: 10g WoS Rum & Blackberry 10g GH Fleurette 10g QWS Smoker’s Blend 10g Pöschl Ozona President a bullet of Dholakia Medicated And Tom sent a smash box full of Railroad Mills scotch as a free sample. It knocked my socks off then, but I consider it tame now, lol. I’m sure he meant well trying to convert a newbie to a scotch lover with a relatively “mild” scotch. Well, that happened eventually, but RR Mills sat unloved for months before I could handle it. Small by comparison to every subsequent order, but that was before I knew what i was getting into. Looking back I’d probably not order any of those again, though I owe it to Fleurette to try it in a tub not a sneeze box. ah memories of snuff freshman year… :x
