OK, so i got better at taking Toque… it just requires more finesse and patience. The German snuffs are easier to take and it goes where it’s supposed to with ease. However… I don’t get the same scent with the fine grind of Toque. Do I need to take more since it’s finer? I’m guessing it has to do with the tobacco particles and the size of the grind…?

I think your guess is correct? There are others that can answer better than me, but I’ve always found that in general the finer the grind the quicker the scent fades. The coarser ground snuffs tend to carry their scent longer. You already pointed out the reason why. Some of the Toques fade fast for me while others seem to carry. I can end the night with Apricot and still smell it an hour after I wake up.

I think it has more to do with scenting methods. Toque’s scents , overall, seem to have less staying power than some. Especially the heavily scented types. Toque does wonderful scents that seldom overstay their welcome. For my nose F&T are the one brand that consistently stick around to long to be enjoyable.

Just my opinion, mind you, but I agree that coarser snuffs’ scent lasts longer than finer milled snuff. It’s a physics thing. There’s also some consideration that should be given to the production methods used. Is the scenting applied to the leaf and allowed to age and penetrate before milling? Or, is the scenting applied to snuff flour after milling? Also aging. Is either method allowed to age as snuff for a sufficient period of time? The longer the better, whether fine, medium or coarse. Again, just my opinion. Each type has its time and occasion. I like the quick hit of scent and nicotine of the finer snuffs, especially Toque, in the morning and gradually work my way to the coarser ones as the day progresses. Notable exception is HDT which gets a good workout all day, every day, year round, regardless of other circumstances.

Ok. I’ve been snuffing more and found it interesting. I like Radfords which stays for awhile but the toque coke gave me little flavor but a good feeling.

With a fine, dry snuff like HDT or Dholakia White, I can keep on taking it as fast and as often as I can dip a spoon into a box. By the time I’ve put the spoon down, almost, the scent is beginning to fade and I’m ready for the next hit. But with coarse snuffs, you do have to wait a bit longer and they unfold over a longer period. I’d never shovel down coarse, moist snuffs in the same way. I agree with Daniel that coarse snuffs are more an evening thing for me, although I sometimes just keep on going with the fine snuffs when I’m feeling lazy.

Interesting. Agreed that fine snuff doesn’t seem to last as long, scent-wise. I’m plumbed to pass fine snuffs much more easily: blowing isn’t really required, whereas coarse snuffs stay in the lower passages and need to be blown out rather quickly. In my case, I have always assumed that was the reason for the difference in staying power…I’m essentially passing the fine snuffs right down the back of my throat whereas the coarse snuffs coat the nasal mucosa. Not saying I have it figured out by any means.
