Just trying the tin I received today. Had to cycle 5 miles one way to collect it from the post office depot so some dedication there. My very first quick try pinch I got a slight bit of what I suppose is the Juniper which seemed a bit bathroomy and to be frank I was a little underwhelmed given that I had taken with me on the cycle my nice own floral blend which is much more fragrant. Trying the FOJ a little more now and went outside for a bit to get the full scent which was the same Juniper but I also seem to be getting candy and biscuit and a pepperiness? I was using Wos no.22 beforehand so that might be influencing things. This is the first Sir Walter Scott snuff I have tried although I had a quick pinch of the Lundy Foot and know I will like that being a nice meaty? toast. I find the Juniper a bit strange at present although I certainly like it. It seems a lot more subdued to me than those which I have until now become accustomed to but that may not be a bad thing. I’m using it from a bullet and it’s dryness means that works very well and it is very nice after immediately taking some but the initial scent seems to fall off quite quickly but remain then at a modest level. I’m not getting my usual stoned as per my own mixes? but that could also be a good thing. Glad I got a 50g tin anyhow to do plenty of trials. Glad to have this as an alternative to what I already use. Wondering how my perception will change after getting more aquinted with this snuff which at present is for sure a new experience in snuff for me and a welcome one. I’ll just add on that every snuff I take and the longer it’s in my nose I’m liking it more which can’t be a bad thing.
I too find it very subdued and fleeting. I wish it was a little more intense, but I would imagine a field of junipers would be quaint and mild.
I do like that there is no harsh burn or drip or saltiness and it’s not overly fine i.e. medium so doesn’t sieve through the bullet and the tin seems good to keep it fresh for long enough although I’ve used half a bullet quite quickly in about an hour. Very easy to take a lot of.
I woke up this morning after another incredable snuff snooze. Woke at 5am had a snuff and slept again until 9am so instead of having a 9 to 5 these days I have a 5 to 9 and then there’s the siesta… Anyhow at 9 first thought on waking seemd to be, I know what that FOJ is like and it’s Pop Corn albeit peppery. That must have been the candy and biscuit I was getting. I’m finding also that it’s a great occasional treat between using my regular snuff. Finished my bullet now so onto the Lundi Foot next.
I was surprised to read the FOJ is dry… I do recall when receiving FOJ , it was fresh with a decent moisture level…it was a very unique looking snuff, spotty, kinda crumby specks all tightly bunched together look to it ( but yet seperate specks in own way ) and a unique color. When I first opened original tin it came in, I kinda bugged out a bit looking at it…never seen snuff look like that. Also when I scraped my first spoonful from tin ( before decanting ) with side of spoon… The aroma rose up from the tin ( without snuffing yet ) into my nasal passages… It was a delightful experience, for someone who loves snuff. .i believe even with myself decanting into airtight glass bottles , FOJ had the tendency to dry a bit ( but not dry, by no means ) only cause it was so dam fresh when received. You detect in aroma, what you detect… I would like to detect a biscuit smell…lol ENJOY!
I agree, it did appear a strange colour and consistancy to me but definitely dry (as is the Lundi foot) and this was confirmed with it not sticking to the clear bullet sides so works perfectly in the bullet. All of my other snuffs stick to some degree. It doesn’t bother me though in fact it even seems to keep its flavour very well after days in the bullet or perhaps the Juniper dies down some and the pepperiness comes more to the fore. Either way it certainly meets with my approval.
I bought a 15 g tin and …well… It is special. A girly, delicate snuff. There is some earthiness and some biscuit scent in it which are very subtle. The burn is very gentle, light. the ‘flavour’ doesn’t last for ages ( could be longer) but somehow it matches the overall picture. I would give it a 4 *.
