I know people say they are not influenced by branding and that the quality of the product speaks for itself. I think ultimately, this is the case, but I think something also can be said for clever and intelligent branding. I know that I tend to try certain pipe tobaccos based on their name. If that weren’t the case, they wouldn’t have clever names. I really like Toque’s branding. I like the modern style to the font and the cool contrasting labels on the tins. This compliments the straight forward names to their snuffs. On the flip, I think the FUBAR snuffs are branded a little bit crazy, given they type of product it is. Just curious if others even thought about this?

Fancy labels don’t make the product great. De Kralingse have the simplest labels and create mighty fine products. I remember a beer that was absolutely discussing it was nude beer ,all the locals drunks bought it up because the labels had nude woman. Probably worth something today empty.Great marketing scam . Fubar is Mr.Snuffs baby ,a contract brand exclusively made for his store

R

I think F&T have the best blend–pun intended–of branding and product. The cans are beautiful and functional and the product is…well, it’s powdered ambrosia, really.

D

I don’t pay attention to the branding or labels.

B

I keep putting off trying Viking because my brain refuses to take a snuff with that name seriousily. Same thing happened with fubar grunt which is a favorite of mine.

I ithink this is what I was talking about initially. Glad you confirmed this for me. I happen to enjoy both Viking and Grunt (even though I am new to snuffing), regardless of their branding.

B

F&T is my favorite branding. It just looks majestic in its simplicity to me. I don’t particular like Toque’s branding or any of the modern style branding. I don’t think it affects my buying habits much though since I probably buy more of Toque than F&T. I can honestly say that if a snuff brand was just a plain white label with the brand and flavor written in a generic font that I would still judge it on the merit of its contents. Branding probably effects my purchasing habits on other products in life but for some reason with snuff not so much.

M

I can understand how names can turn you off like “Grunt” or “F.U.B.A.R.” If you didn’t research them, they would make you think the worst but at the same time U.S. snuff labeling hasn’t changed since the product was invented adding to confusion of not knowing it’s meaning like “Lorillard” I bought. What is it? A flower, herb or maybe a place? After research it is the last name of the guy how created it. My first snuff was “President” and if it wasn’t for the chrome tap box I probably wouldn’t had tried snuff at all.

O

I actually was at first turned off just by the name FUBAR…seemed hokey and or kind of lame to me but man am I ever glad I decided to read the reviews and form an opinion based on them.FUBAR Toast,Grunt and Shot of Rum are 3 snuffs that are at this point absolute must haves in my opinion.Matter of fact Im starting to think Im going to place my next order sooner than planned just because Im down to about 25 grams of Toast and its making me nervous :)) Snazzy advertising and a cool name certainly dont hurt but for me its more about whats inside.

B

I think most snuff branding sucks. I think F&T gets it right by classing it up.

B

My first snuff order included FUBAR Grunt…simply because of the name. So I guess it worked on me. For just plain appearance I love F&T. The old timey lettering and tall tins appeal to the history nut in me. The Wilson’s logo dude gets me too.

M

I agree with bob and a couple of other posters that the F&T tins are classic; the heritage they exude just feels right, despite the fact the company no longer exists and it’s just another WoS product.

M

Maybe the old style labels give us the “Secret Society” feel and with advertising no longer allowed, snuff is only getting around by word of mouth the same way it started. Isn’t that funny, I never thought about that until reading this thread

C

I like some of the Bernard’s labels. Especially the monk one.

B

and poschels the germany guy no one really knows but he’s at the party anyways??? Or am I not understanding your metaphores?

W

I like Toque & Dholakia for a modern looking snuff tins, F&T & Wilsons for a classical image but for me the best branding it´s the Gawith - Apricot, sturdy black tapbox, elegant gothic characters and fancy golden stars . The first time I saw it they were next to the Gletcherprises and only noticed the apricot…That´s an eye catcher design!

T

I agree that the F&T tins are the most elegant. I also really like the US Scotch cans like Rooster, Red Seal, Society. They seem quaint and old-timey in an American way.

B

I have to admit the poschel packages are quite eye catching especialy president. I mean I had to try that one just for the package.

M

I second gawith apricot as my favorite design. I was just admiring the box today!

A

I love the Dragun label, if I’m allowed to say that. I didn’t design it, that was done by a graphic artist but he just captured what I described. I think the nicest around are those German ones, name escapes me, with the beautiful artwork.

B

I like the Cafe 11 label. I like the Gekachelter Virginie box.

T

I saw this thread and immediately though, ‘F&T! Hands down!’ Looks like I am not alone. In all honesty though, I enjoy the variety of packaging styles that all the different brands come in. I reckon it is one of the pleasures of building a snuff collection…apart from the tap boxes.

F

After spending some time with different FUBAR snuffs, I have changed my mind about the idea behind it, but not loving the packaging. I have been snuffing FUBAR Toasted for the past two days. The scent is right from the trenches and seems like something a grunt would snuff. I feel the same way about Grunt.

H

I really like the Indian snuff-tins for how they look. Metal tins are fun. The designs look very exotic. They are a pain to get open but they look cool. F&T is also awesome. I know what @bob means about Viking, I had the same issue. The snuff is fantastic though.

V

Unfortunatelly I hadn’t have a chance to try most of brands. For now, I tried few of: WoS, Poschl, Samuel Gawith, Bernard, Dholakia, Stok, Paul Gotard, CiT, Gawith Hoggarth, Swedish Match, McChrysthals, Leonard Dingler, JH von Eicken, JK Snuff, so it’s several, but still not much. I’ve noticed, that almost all of my favourites are made by Bernard or WoS.

A

I like everything about 6 photos and since learning the origin of the name and labeling I like it even more. I will probably cut from the 50 plus snuffs I have to about 15 of which at least 6 will be 6 photos.

T

I highly dislike the generic design of SG tins, but when it comes to snuff it really is what’s on the inside that counts.

F

i like the abraxas packing as well as the contents. however i prefer the contents of firedrac, and the packaging of the premium ones. F&T + Hedges arent too bad either.
