Favorite Snuff Accessory? (bullet, spoons, snorter tubes, smash boxes, etc)

A

new to snuffing here and im still trying out different methods of insufflation. Been using the traditional pinch method, taking a pinch with middle finger and thumb blocking off each nostril with my ring and index finger. So what is your preferred method? Which method has given you the best aroma from your snuff overall? which has given the worst?

B

Favorite accessory - https://mrsnuff.com/product\\_info.php?cPath=22\\_169&products\\_id=1538 Massive spoon fulls ,that is how I roll. Next method - Box Car- clean and easy to control. Pinch - only certain snuffs like McC Hops for aroma. Back of hand too messy, Bullets totally useless - never deliver enough; too much fussing around. Snorter tubes are for snorting drugs. Snuff snuff don’t snort! I never block off a nostril it send it back too far.

A

i do have a very similar tool to that already maybe not as big of a spoon portion on it but still a decent one, ive just been having trouble with taking too much or taking it too far, thats why i have been most comfortable with the pinch because i feel like i control the flow of snuff, and ive heard the heat from your fingers helps release some of those extra underlying aromas in your snuff. But now i think i will try not blocking off the nostril and mess around with the box car method a bit. And i shouldnt even try messing with the bullets? not even the POSH ones?

C

Just the thumb and index finger is all I need.

A

Just the thumb and index finger is all I need.

Well the whole reason ive been doing the middle finger and thumb is so i could block off the opposite nostril with my other fingers but ive been alternating between my “spoon” utensil and the thumb and index pinch without blocking my nostrils its much smoother now and i dont take it too far, its a little harder too because im using scotches as well.

I tried that for awhile, did you find out about it from that guy in the video pinching from a big tin of SP No. 1? After I saw that video I tried it for a bit but I am much too uncoordinated!

A

haha yeah. I saw that video and tried it a few times, and it seemed to work for me so i stuck with it for awhile. Until i noticed it hitting my throat a little more often than i liked. So now ive been working with regular pinching and my spoon for the past few hours with much better results. ive been snuffing for about 3 weeks now, im no pro haha

B

The Toque small flask ,I carry one on my key chain, filled with Toque Quit. I can’t leave home without some snuff. Grant it you can’t pinch easily from it. I have many snuff boxes for that; see page 3 and Toque bottle/small flask on page 4 http://snuffhouse.org/discussion/7256/share-your-snuffbox-pics/p3

L

My favourite hanky and snuffbox with 6P Cheta

G

I generally use the ASB or the back of my hand. I’m a clean fellow.

J

I don’t use any at the moment, but I’m planning on getting an artisan snuff with my next order so I made a snuff spoon and I’m looking for a small box.

S

I use the stainless spoon from Mr. Snuff on a daily basis. excellent construction with just the right amount of heft to feel good in the hand and the bowl holds plenty of snuff treasure to keep me happy…

P

I do enjoy my tobacco toys but when all is said & done my index finger & thumb is what I use most often.

B

Found these on etsy a while ago. If you go there, look for “cointransformations”. Consider the screw top style. They are too cool. https://www.etsy.com/shop/COINTRANSFORMATIONS?ref=l2-shop-header-avatar

O

Bendy Straw Blow Tube!

L

Would be distraught without my snuff spoon & box.

H

I prefer to, as Uncle Squinty would say, run barefoot through my snuff Only thing I use a spoon for is my Dholakia White… That said, I don’t go out without my plastic Snuffhouse snuffbox!

F

My favorite accessory is either one of the Mr. Snuff or Snuffhouse snuff boxes both of which have the tap slider attachment.

V

I use a bullet at work. basement_shaman is absolutely correct that they don’t give a good enough hit, but for my purposes, it works quite well (as someone else said here before, you just gotta get the angle right). At home, I just use a pocket knife that I keep on my coffee table. Works great.

A

I like the stainless steel spoon from mr snuff. At work i use the wooden coffee sticks from starbucks. They actually work great.

M

Oak spoons

Cute!!!

O

Thanks @MisterPaul! I’ve had a few over the years, but they’re easily lost.

M

@Omgroma - I like the spoons myself, although to my shame I don’t have anything in wood, those look really charming and very practical too. A couple of my metal ones shown below

My favorite snuff accessory:

snuffhouse.com

M

I carried a bullet for some time, with some of my own mixtures and also toast-like snuffs. The snuff lost aroma, contaminated others, got damp and clumpy and was almost impossible to extract from it’s cocaine-intended container. It just didn’t work for me.
Poschl nuff bottles made of plastic seem like a good idea for bulk purchases (I have one: it hadn’t seen much use because I don’t usually buy in bulk); so do snuff-boxes, plus they’re beautiful pieces of craftmanship.
Spoons can do the trick with several snuffs, but I reserve them for indoor usage as I’m quite clumsy and don’t want to make a mess.

B

Just my trusty hanky and snuff box

D

I carry two bullets on me to work, but I prefer to tap the bump out into my carbox and insufflate it that way. I am currently carrying high dry toast and viking brown.

H

A thumbnail (I use the boxcar method).

A heartwood snuffbox. (I have 4 or 5 of them.)

A bandana (preferably a dark one) when I am on the go.

A box of facial tissue when I am at home.

B

Spoon.

T

I’m loath to say this, but even though I have a number snuffboxes in silver, horn, wood, plastic, and pewter, most being antique. I tend to have a couple of smash boxes in my pocket. At home I use a stanless steel snuff spoon from Mr Snuff, because I spoon from one of my jars

S

The spoon is my #1. Though I got this cheap one from Mr. Snuff that has what I would describe as a sword guard - total pain.  Looking forward to my straight titanium spoon.

Though I don’t use snuff much on the go, I do love my Snuffhouse tap box.  I bought that with my first dinky snuff order, before I even knew what Snuffhouse was.  I wouldn’t mind getting a couple more…

W

Besides my various boxes my most used/favorite accessory would be my Case Baby Docs knife. At closed length of around 2 1/2" it is very compact and the spatula blade it a perfect snuff spoon. I dislike using my fingers to pinch out of the tin so I just scoop some out, dump on back of hand and pinch from that.

M

Winchester Doctor’s Knife here.

L

Has anyone tried the Snuffmaster?

S

@willc @Mouse I like your style guys. Doctor’s knife is a way cool idea.

@larry_90066 I am also interested in this and can’t find anything more on it than it is just a dispenser for a double dose on the back of the hand. I have seen it advertised as a “snuff machine” and that suggests it also grinds, but I can’t find any info to back that up.

Those spoons in cylindrical plastic jars they’re selling at several shops as snuff spoons are really for fecal samples! Not very appetizing!

R

I just got my firrst order in today and have only just started but using the bullets my snuff came in, (toque) with a slightly different method than ive seen on YouTube and else where is working good for me, Also for one of the snuffs that was too moist for the bullet the rococo tap box is working well for placement on the back of the hand. I haven’t found where to find the small  solitary spoons that arent part of a bottle or jewelry so can’t say ive tried the full array of accessories yet.

B

@RCastle https://mrsnuff.com/stainless-steel-snuff-spoon-p-1538.html This is the one I use. there are many options when it comes to spoons .I like this size, its a long as a pen and the spoon can hold a larger dose or you can pick up a smaller dose on it. And it fits inside the toque flask http://www.toquesnuff.com/index.php?app=gbu0&ns=prodshow&ref=plain\\_snuffbottle . I carry one on my key chain so I don’t leave home without some snuff. I just load a boxcar with it.

R

@Basement  i was looking at that flask and was thinking of getting it but couldnt tell how much it held or wht the black plastic at the top was for. &yes that does seem like a suitable spoon

N

The black plastic thing on top is just to prevent the keyring from rubbing up against the flask during shipping so you don’t receive a flask that’s all scratched up, you remove it when you get the flask.  I’d say they hold about 10g of snuff.

P

Bakelite snuff box is the one for me! Great size, good seal and tough.

R

I did broke my last Automatikbox several month ago. It is a shame that they did stop the production of this nice tools.
I did use it mainly for heavy aka moist snuffs like S.A. ones. I want one again. Damn.

C

I’m old school, so I think a thumb and forefinger are the essential tools for snuff enjoyment.

I do like a nice big spoon when I’m cooking, so I can pile it on the back of my hand without the snuff smelling of garlic, salmon or whatever I happen to be burning at the time.  Usually my mustache is a shade of salt and pepper.  When I’m awake, and snuffing, it changes to a very nice shade of burnt sienna.

When I’m in my cups my mustache looks like a turd or tootsie roll under my nose, especially when I break out the Gekachelter Virginie.  I’d shave it off, but I haven’t seen that portion of my face for fifty years and I’d likely have a coronary event if I happened to get a glance of it, to say nothing of domestic tranquility.  My wife might shoot me thinking I was an intruder.  I’d have to wear a pork chop necklace so the dogs don’t eat me.

S

I use old tins that contained beard balm or mustache wax. Nice sized tins and good seals.

Sorry just seen this. No notification with half a user name also if you use capitals with mine, I don’t see them unless i revisit a thread.

Holds about 10 grams the black plastic is just for shipping.

S

image Just picked these jars up at target. Figured they would be good on my side table and only cost a dollar each. Should hold 20g each or a bit more. Put the pipe lighter next to it so you could gauge the size.

R

@n9inchnail Thank you, in that case I may be ordering one quite soon

M

Just got my 3 little snuff containers from eBay. Pretty nice. image

N

@Mcsnuffy. How thick is the aluminium? I’m in desperate need of a good screw tin or a bottle that can take a beating. Been thinking about the one you posted or possibly the toque flask. Open for suggestions.

M

Outside measurement is 1 5/16", inside is 1 3/16".  So the thickness is 1/16".  They are very stout.  You can’t bend it with your hands at all.  You’d have to smack them really hard with a hammer to possibly damage them.  I consider them pretty indestructible for carrying around in my pocket.  And very air/water tight.

N

Great to hear, Sounds like something for me. How is it with snuff in the threads,Does it get alot in there?

M

Only if there is snuff on the very top edge of the container when you try to screw it on.  I just wipe my finger around it.

S

786  I never would have guessed in a million years that my favorite snuff implement would be (drum-roll)…

the straw.  A piece of flexible drinking straw.  There, I said it!  Straw, straw, straw.  Straw all day every day.  Straw for supper.  Straw for lunch.  Straw for midnight snack.  Straw for tea.  Straw for breakfast.  Straw for tiffin.  Straw for schmalzler.  Straw for scotch.  Straw for SP.  Straw for Madras. Straw, straw, straw.

Oh, also, did I mention straw?

O

My favorite snuff accessory of late has become strangely enough my pipe tool. I smoke a pipe regularly and the bowl cleaner/reamer part of the pipe tool works just fine as a makeshift snuff spoon. I mean it’s always on my bench anyway so why not put it to use for snuff as well.

B

I never like bullets because they never delivered enough, Well I broke out my Posh Bullet and filled it with Dholakia Medicated No 10. It works great because you don’t need much #10. Fits in my right leg fifth pocket so its handy when I need some .

T

I had a bullet, but it became more trouble than it was worth. The snuff dries out, comes out inconsistently when it comes out at all, and then there’s the leaking. I’ve been using a round metal tapbox I got from Mr. Snuff for a while now. MUCH better.

M

I have no experiance with any accesory but i just tryed a straw. Wauw !!! The snuff (Mississippi ) witch gives me a running nose, burn and backdrip turns in to a very easy snuff !! I’m amazed ! I will defenately do this more often with my harder snuffs !!!

5

Method: Pinch. Lets you connect with the snuff and understand it before you consume it, and also allows pre-warming. Greater control when snuffing. Accessories: Hankies: Cheap coloured hanky Boxes: Mr Snuff and Snuffhouse boxes, colour co-ordinated to types of snuff to minimise ghosting effects, and remembering which box contains what: Mr Snuff: (Primaries) Yellow - SPs and KBs Red - Dark Coarse Blue - Florals Green - Mints and Menthols Snuffhouse: (Secondaries) Orange - SP+ such as Grand Cairo, Strasbourg, or homemade mixes Red - Dessert snuffs or secondary dark coarse Brown - Coffees and rappees Sharrow Snuff wooden slide box: Table snuff box, usually containing small dregs mix

Has anybody tried these Stainless Steel and Titanium small snuff bottles?
https://mrsnuff.com/stainless-steel-snuff-bottle-p-3213.html

https://mrsnuff.com/titanium-snuff-bottle-p-2186.html

J

The antler flask on the left is from Bavaria - not air tight, but that’s not why I bought it. The one on the left is from Ted Cash, who makes black powder replica stuff.  I have one of his 18th century tobacco boxes and it’s great quality at a great value.

Y

Oops, posted to the wrong thread, but since I’m here, I found a way to fix bullets. See my thread on that.

J

I used to collect boxes of all kinds, pewter, paper mache, a silver, some old wood. These days, I just use two Patrick Collins boxes, one for toast, the other for white Indian, and a plastic box for anything moist or scented. A stainless steel spoon, too, I’ve practically forgotten how to take snuff without it. Whenever they become available on MS, I buy two, just for when I lose one. One day I might get a nice airtight silver box, but I’m pretty happy with the PC wood. I wish I’d bought more while he was still making them. Wood is beautiful stuff, and they are beautifully crafted.

G

when I am indoors and alone - back of the hand, or spoon, pipetool (sometimes messy but practical) when indoors and in company of others - pinch out of a snufbox ( stylish and clean, though it needs practice to master) when walking or commuting - posh bullet (fast, clean, discrete) or boxcar (if not surrounded by people) Lately I have started using the straw. I like to call it the pipe, though. A large diameter (useful for slow airflow) tube of plastic, like the midle piece of any fat ballpoint pen or felt tip pen, transparent and about 10 cm long, amazing how much control you can get with it.

N

@Gilliat - Using a straw? Really? How? Would be great if you can elaborate on how this would not hit where it is not supposed to.

C

Right now it’s my little brown ex Mollens snuff box

G

@newbiesnuffer : the straw/pipe works best with coarse and moist snuffs (which are 70% of what I use). For the fine and dry ones I think the pinch is the best method. The whole trick is to find a large diameter tube, as large as possible as long as it can fit into your nostril and the tube is just slightly inside the nose maybe 2,3 mm. This way you can’t shoot it too far up the nose, no matter how hard you sniff, and also tweak the direction of the flow to sit it where you want. If the tube is transparent you can even see the particles ascending. Of course, it’s fun, but I wouldn’t recommend doing it if you suspect somebody else is observing. You can also try a kuripe or ask a friend to shoot it up your nose with a tepi. You can find youtube videos about these also.

N

Sounds interesting! All I want to do is avoid anything going beyond 1 cm of my nostrils. @Gilliat - Will try today!

To be more specific, would a normal drinking straw with 0.5 cm diameter work? Or do we need those large straws we get when we are served iced slush?

G

The wider the better

G
G

The best snuff straw (for me) measures 15 cm long,  12mm outer diameter, 10mm inner bore, (1mm wall thickness) with diagonally cut endings for an optimum viewing angle. Can also be used a spoon, scoop, scraper, works like a charm with messy coarse flours, and easily penetrates in any type of opened box, without wasting any crumbs. You can even use it as a very effective self-defence weapon, but make sure you are allowed to defend yourself before trying it!  Zombies might not be impressed though, they have already had their eyes pulled out due to constantly misusing them, hahahaha!!

i never leave home without a plastic rococo tap/pinch box. dont bother with the wood rococo ones though. a huge waste of money

Out off all my accessories the most important to me is the mortar and pestle.

H

My Bernard 100g.snuff bottle I won from Uncle Squinty. 1491990224871-1440018205 Also my dish signed by Chef Daniel(Old Mill) 1491990569869309518386 Then my snuff spoon for my artisan snuffs. and of course my back of my hand and my fingers to pinch (or go “bearfoot”).

B

@Hawaiian_Ryan On the bottom of that bottle. That is Chef Daniel’s of Old Mill’s Fame,  signature; Oden rest his soul.  I’m wondering if Uncle Squinty knew it was signed? Anyway nice bottle.

N

These photos are of two different items.

H

Yea its 2 different items I won the Bernard’s Flask from Uncle Squinty and Chef Daniel was giving out some dishes so I asked him if he could sign it and he did.

N

Have any of you tried any of these? I wish I could get hold of some. Sigh, no accessories available in India which is within my reach as of now!

https://katukina.com/products/snuff-bottles/

B

someone might have said but snuffbox. The snuff box is easier to use then a jar or other container. And allows for the purchase of bulk snuffs which are in every way better then little tins.

Y

I got 2 snuffboxes from WoS, and I really like them. Feel solid, and have a slider for a tapbox.

The slider for the tapbox is a triangle so you can adjust the size of the “bump”

That being said, I have never been able to get tapboxes right, nothing comes out, so I tap and tap and then too much spills out. What I have been able to do is tap it down with the slider closed, then open the slider about half way and snuff directly from the hole. Works great when driving or on the go.

If it’s not clear I’ll try to post some pictures/video later.

B

when the tap box is closed tap the end opposite of the dispensing hole, then procede as normal. Or give it a shake if nothing is coming out freely. Either one seems to work. It can change with different snuffs.

Y

Thanks @bob, I still find snuffing off the back of my had a bit less acurrate than the other methods.

S

I love my coin pot snuff boxes… Absolutely perfect for my needs. https://coincrafts.myshopify.com/products/king-george-v-penny-pot

5

@Spam Are they any good for pinching from, or do you tap the snuff out?

S

I pinch from them. They might be a little small if you have big fingers but they work for me.

Thank you

N

I use these small screw top tins (I have ones smaller than these, similar to the size Spam has shown above.) they are made of plastic and serve well to store 2-3 days worth. I’m reduced to just these since I still am unable to source any good accessories… (will upload a picture later. Unable to do so now from my phone)

N

Y

Right now I like this snuff box from WoS

5

@yisraeldov I’ve seen those advertised many times, but not held one in my hands. How do they compare size wise with the later Molens boxes? Did you ever get one of those?

Y

@50ft_trader… I have one in my other office… I think they are about the same size. But the WoS box feels more sturdy. If I remember I’ll take some pictures when I get back to my other office.

5

Nice one. Thanks.

G

I keep thinking there’s some magical way snuffers use snuff without getting their hands dirty

I’ve never tried it with my hands; too afraid of dropping snuff.  I guess that’s the oldest technique though.  It seems unique to me, so I’m fascinated by it

I’ve been using a salt spoon since I started snuff at the beginning of the year.  The main thing I worry about is snuff getting contaminated with oils from my hand, even if it’s clean

Lately I’ve been snuffing from the top inside of a snuff bullet I got that doesn’t always work the way it’s supposed to.  It’s nice but I noticed after a couple hits, you have to clean out the upper part inside your nose since it’s caked with snuff; so it’s probably still wasteful

I wonder if the hand methods, like plugging or pinching give one a pinch big enough for me.  I’m used to spoon pinches which are like 3 times the amount my fingers hold; or at least I imagine they are.  I don’t mean this in jest.  I really use a lot (I guess), so I’m curious about the size of each pinch

I’ve just ordered one of those glass vials with a spoon attached.  Just thought I’d mention that too, since I haven’t seen any mention of these on the forum even though places like Mr. Snuff sell them

Cheers!

M

Got my first Snuffmaster last week and to put it simple, it will not be my last. Great device. Have a look: https://www.schnupfmaschine.com/en-home

B

Smallest tobasco bottle (well washed out!) It’s a bit of a faff to fill but great for finer snuffs.

S

Poschl’s tap boxes, tapped out onto my thumb nail. Once the original product is done I refill with whatever I want next. I like how they look, plus they are solid. Also msx is right the Snuffmaster is a nice product, high quality build and the magnets work brilliantly.

W

I have a hard time with some of the finer grinds. Always seem to shoot it to my brain.

V

Hi and welcome aboard, @Wild_Alaska! Worth trying different snuff taking techniques. My favourite one is a ‘boxcar’. Watch this short vid to get a good grasp on how it goes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVBvBZxvFT8 .

If you are have a slightest interest in making your snuff, check out the same channel for videos about this craft. Despite the channel name, the content there is not limited to snus.

S

@Wild_Alaska Learning your preferred method is like learning to ride a bike. You’re going to skin your knees a few times before you get the hang of it!

I’ve found two things to really help with the finer snuffs:

  1. I take a big breath to fill my lungs before taking the snuff. This limits the “depth” I can insufflate to hopefully keep it in my nostril.

  2. I’ve learned to close my throat, same as going underwater without plugging my nose. Then, I sort of bob my throat down to pull air in through my nose. This shallow burst lines the inside of my nostril without the chance of going into my lungs because my throat is closed. Adjusting the strength of the “throat bob” takes some learning to keep it from blowing out an eyeball, though.

I tend to prefer the “box car”, but I really enjoy taking HUGE pinches too. I almost shove the snuff into my nose while using the two methods above, but I’m careful to be very gentle with my insufflation.

Stick with it and you’ll find your preferences.

W

@SHbickel This method works really well for me with the pinch. The fine powders don’t hit the back of my throat unless I’m not paying attention now. @volunge that double nostril hand deal helped me out a lot. I can take it with a pinch or on the finger now (easy to pinch a pile onto my finger wrapped around my tin…). Great stuff fellas! Helped me to stick with it in positive.

D

Since I didn’t see it mentioned while browsing this useful thread (even though someone mentioned a large snuffing tube) I figured I’d add my latest tool that I’ve been using for coarse snuffs : NKS Fat Sniffer Stainless Steel Draw Tube + Linen Bag + Baller Cards + Hanging Chain (Blue) : Amazon.fr: Industrial & Scientific

It’s simple, but very practical for Dark Rappee’s, Santo Domingo, Best Dark and even Samuel Gawith’s snuffs.

M

I have a few bullets. I use them when out and about. In my home, I use a large snuff spoon. Smaller spoons don’t work for me. I think the large spoon increases the speed of the air entering my nose, by acting as a restriction.

The large spoon is also handy when refilling bullets with a tiny funnel.

I keep my snuff in the original tins, and use the large spoon to partake.

C

Bullets are great for keeping your hands and environment cleaner like @Toastyallday mentioned in the “what’s in your nose” thread. I typically pinch and make a mess…but I do have some Mr. Snuff tap boxes and Nysberrys to mitigate some of that I’m out and about and it’s needed.

C

Also, my Goodnow & Jenks Tobacco Powder Spoon. It’s sterling silver and pretty rare (I think!).
