Hi, This is my first post. I bought my first tin of snuff: Ozona raspberry, which I love --but after carrying it around in my pocket most of the week I’m sad that it’s lost most of it’s flavor and some moisture as well.
You didn’t give yourself much of a chance with the brand and it’s container; it would have been dry before it arrived/was out of the shop. Maybe you could ponder that or plan better for future periods of philosophical thought. Buy some more interesting snuff and cheer up.
Go shopping then!have fun.
Sounds like an excellent excuse to make an order. Get a bunch of different kinds and I’m sure you’ll be discovering new favorites in no time.
I’m not so miserable now, I have another order comming soon.
Hang out and take in all the info, it should keep you interested till your order arrives. Welcome.
@nosemboss If you like Raspberry may I suggest Samuel Gawith Raspberry . It isn’t super mentholated like the Ozona brand. But the raspberry scent lasts for a very long time. The entire line of Samuel Gawith snuffs have the diversity to thrill your senses. I also suggest reading threads on storage ,This will save you from reading threads on re-hydration. Also when possible buy snuff in vacuum pack tins.
Very small tins are never going to give you the full experience of taking snuff. They dry out in those things and sometimes have sat on a retailers shelves a long while. Ideally the best way to get what snuff is, is to buy in bulk - then you have guaranteed freshness because the jars are airtight and the volume of snuff inside them acts to preserve it, plus if you buy bulk from the factory the bulk cans are filled to order, fresh. Of course, you won’t be buying bulk if you are still exploring snuff, but when you find one you like try buying a larger can of it. Personally, I would recommend exploring Toque’s products - their range of snuffs cover all of the English styles and are in decent cans, and they have great customer service. When it comes to storage, the most important part is keeping it in airtight containers and just decanting what you need for the day into a snuffbox or tin.
I think i got it. I placed an order for several WoS’ and others as well as a few smash boxes. Thanks all.
what a bummer, the newly arrived tin of raspberry is way less juicy and fragrant. Wow, even the tin itself is less fragrant. …wow From the comments I guess i got lucky on the first one. @basement_shaman I will be trying the SG, and will be looking to buy more in bulk.
@nosemboss Smash boxes are inexpensive but are a pain when your snuff goes flying, I would suggest to get some of the plastic snuff boxes at Mr.snuff https://mrsnuff.com/store/snuffhouse-snuff-deep-blue-p-2198.html?osCsid=5fad0126fe41ed543321c5893345ca87. I found these to be convenient and worth every penny.
I would suggest getting smash boxes from Snuff Gear, they are far superior to the ones sold on Mr. Snuff., They’re harder plastic, they snap shut better, they seal better, they don’t tip over when the lid is open like the Mr. Snuff ones do and they’re cheaper. http://snuffgear.com/index.php?main\\_page=product\\_info&cPath=14&products\\_id=13
I have had a tin of Ozona Raspberry for quite a while now, I don’t frequently use it, but when I do I don’t notice any loss of flavor/scent. It may have lost some of its scent but I havn’t noticed. I just took a pinch, same raspberry menthol pleasure as always. Poschl snuffs seem to retain their moisture and aroma because of the oil. @nosemboss I have a couple smash boxes that I only used a couple times, I dont really like them, but I think they work for a lot of other people. I’ll probably throw mine in with a trade i’m going to post soon. My first snuff box was a poschl one I got from Mr. Snuff, they have a package deal that comes with one of their schmalzlers. Eventually I got a stainless steel turn tin from Mr. Snuff and it is my favorite now, I use it every day. If you like taking snuff off the back of your hand, I suggest trying one of them, I think they are like 7 bucks. If you dont like it, i’ll trade you some snuff for it. A lot of people had difficulty with them, I think its generally older people who have lost their youthful dexterity (no offence anyone)
@basement_shaman how big are those plastic snuff boxes from mrsnuff? How much do they hold?
@distaind 2"x1.5"x3/4" the small snuffhouse.org box; never weight it but 10 grams should be close/have all 5 3" x1.75 x 5/8 the larger rococo box ;15 plus grams I 'll be getting more of these .I retired all my antiques and fine silver boxes.
I have one in my shopping cart for about a week now and when I put it in there there was no measurements showing in the description. Thanks. Now to finalize my order
I love my snuffhouse snuffbox. The thing is wonderfull. It holds I don’t know how much but about the amount I can go through in a day if I put my main snuff in it. And just because it’s plastic doesn’t make it feel cheap or insubstantial. The price has already paid for its self just because it made it so I can buy the bigger thing of grunt and have it stay fresh. That’s the real magic of a snuff box is it keeps your snuff nice longer since you aren’t expouseing all of your snuff to the air. It’s a lot easier to use then a smash box and infinatily classier (which even if you think that doesn’t matter trust me it will matter at some point.). Oh one more thing it’s great too that at this price if I lose it I won’t cry.
