F&T Recommendations

Hi Group… I’m a new member…glad to be here. I have been an off and on snuff taker for roughly 8 years or so now…also a Cigar and Pipe smoker. My snuff taking is generally during the day hours while at work and then I enjoy a fine cigar or bowl of tobacco with a nice Scotch in the evenings. I’m looking to place a new snuff order and would like to try some F&T snuffs. The only one I’ve previously tried is Old Paris which I enjoyed however the grind and moisture makes is slightly difficult for me at times to take…it seems to fall out of my nose! I see that many of the F&T snuffs have the same components to their scents so I was hoping for some recommendations from the group. I’d like to try 3 and I am considering one of them being another tin of Old Paris. Thanks in advance!

Welcome! I recommend these: High Dry Toast Seville They are the simplest of F&T offerings, traditional toast and perfumed dry snuff, perspectively.

High Dry Toast is my main snuff, nice and dry and fine with an incredible toasted tobacco scent.

Hello JClark734, glad to have you as a part of this community! Ahh yes, the Fribourg and Treyer collection… All of the F&T’s are a delight, you really can’t go wrong with any of them… AllanH, we have different tastes it seems :stuck_out_tongue: , but I do really love the F&T HDT. Back to the suggestions. I would HIGHLY recommend F&T’s Bordeaux, it is EXCELLENT! But it really depends on what you like. I really liked Old Paris, even though it was moist and course, it is still great. I would definitely suggest Bordeaux, High Dry Toast, and… the last one is up to you. Old Paris is a great one. What do you like, scent wise? Maybe since you like to smoke cigars, I would suggest Princes… Or Princes Special? I don’t even know LOL. They are all great man, really. Take care!

Morlaix is my favorite.

Morlaix is my favourite of the flavoured ones, HDT reigns king

Old Paris is one of the most beautiful scents to ever pleasure my nostrils…sensational and pure quality. To combat the ‘falling out of the nose’ issue, make sure you’re well hydrated (so you have good clement moisture in your nose), take a sizeable pinch and, once it’s in, give your nose a short, firm squeeze…works great for me with coarse, moist snuffs such as OP, schmalzlers and Best Dark.

You have too, without much risks of desapointement, F&T / Macouba,Bordeaux or Santo Domingo(and real differences between them)…

Of course F&T \ HD Toast is fabulous and a classic one.

to combat the falling out of the nose I reccomend not caring if it falls out of your nose, solves the problem instantly.

What do you good people think of Seville? Im primarily an SP user and I was thinking if it was relatively fineish and dryish Id enjoy it? Just got some Old Paris in yesterday and I can recommend it to anyone who was considering it, very tasty.

Nobody ever says this one but I stand behind it! For a scented F&T my favorite is Morocco!!! It’s GREAT! Seems very high quality! And next is the “PERFECT” High Dry Toast. Simply perfect. Buttery, Nutty, Velvet for the nose. A perfect snuff in my opinion.

@transistor . yep morrocco seems to be my favorite also judging by whats left in the tin … also princes is a good one

Thank you all for the comments and recommendations…it is greatly appreciated.

If you like sandalwood, F&T French Carotte is about the best sandalwood snuff available, IMO.

Do they still make Princes? That was/is a beautiful dark, coarse snuff - almost on a par with Abraxas.

You can get Princes even in Dublin!

Wilsons of Sharrow bought the rights and recipes to Fribourg & Treyer (closed in 1981) and still sell a selection in the tall tins. However, High Dry Toast, Old Paris, Morocco, Kendal Brown and Bordeaux are very different now. HDT was Sam Gawith’s Irish D Light (according to Jim Palmer, the last Haymarket shop manager), while the others were all darker, coarser and with a different taste. They now seem to have an acrid perfume whiff. Although the arrack in Old Paris is still fairly recognisable, I wouldn’t have recognised any of these snuffs except from the tin label and I don’t like any of them either. Kendal Brown was always an impostor, but it is awful demi-gros stuff now. Get proper Kendal Brown from Kendal, not Sheffield. Although no longer containing Cuban tobacco, Santo Domingo is still very good. Princes is also excellent. Can’t really comment on the others. The solution is to try them all.

In my opinion every part of the perfumed set F&T is, de facto, masterpiece . Exept Patchouli witch include naturally a part of mouldy so particular to learn, every product there shine on Subtilities and pertinence. Seville include on his dress a bit of orange trees that you should notice when you walk on the south of spain.

I’ve just took a Patchouli pinch,it’s also a good product, but it needs some time to smell and accept a hint of mouldy,In the first vegetal learning it’s a bad way. But like for the very first Clove pinches whose makes surprises, the time teach…
