F&T HDT storage?

So i ordered 450 grams of FT HDT and was wondering what the shelf life is on such a dry snuff? Ive personally haven’t had any snuffs go bad in the tins but I’ve only been snuffing for 8 months. For the last year I’ve been saving babyfood jars for stuff like this but dont know if decanting is worth the effort with a dry unscented snuff.

From buying very old unscented snuffs on eBay I can tell you change does occur, but I don’t know by how much as I wasn’t snuffing or even breathing in the 50’s so I couldn’t have compared what it was like fresh. But as that’s a pretty big pile of snuff I’d say you have nothing to lose by hedging your bets and maybe decanting what you won’t use for a year. Unless you really only hit that one in which case I wouldn’t bother as it probably wouldn’t last a year.

You know, looking at the canister that your bulk buy comes in I’d have to say I don’t see where glass would do any better of a job. That looks like a high quality vapor proof and durable container. Personally I’d not decant.

If the original container looks as sound as snuffsahoy describes, but you still have some concern, mightn’t I recommend putting that container within another airtight enclosure?
Mm… Time to make a snuff-filled time capsule! Haha!

Put the snuff in a mason jar, fill a sink with enough hot water to reach 1/2 - 3/4  the way up the mason jar, let it heat up for a little bit, then cap it. This creates a slight vacuum, and the snuff should be as good as the seal.

Depends on how fast you use 450 g . a plain snuff like HDT could pick up other stronger scents. if you have the jars use them. but if your only using one snuff I think your safe for another 8 months. Fresh is best and keeping your snuff the freshest is air tight jars. glass being the best. Although is you have access to a vacuum sealer that may be the ultimate way of preservation.
