I ordered a good amount of this, and am awaiting its arrival, eagerly I might add. But I wanted to know what you guys thought of this one. Can someone describe it to me, I’ve read reviews and it sounded like something I would enjoy. Go.
The only other real, live human being that I’ve met in person who takes snuff regularly is a guy called Graeme, who is a tobacco aficionado who kept a blog and set up one of the first snuff mailing lists way back when. He says this is his favourite snuff, and goes on about its delicate floral notes, its sophistication, its power to improve his mood. He promised to send me some, which he did.
And I can’t stand it. It stinks like cheap perfume to me.
But what do I know? Graeme has been taking snuff for twenty years, and I’ve been taking it for about two. So maybe in eighteen years, I’ll give it another shot to see if my palate has adjusted yet.
EDIT: I should add that I really hate most floral perfumes on women, too. And it reminds me of that smell. I make an exception for Toque Violet and am prepared to believe that other Toque florals are good, too. But it’s a pure, simple, single note. It’s the bouquet effect that I don’t like. Oh, and I guess Roslein is kind of a floral, although I never think of it that way.
EDIT: F&T snuffs tend to be polarizing, people either love them or hate them. It’s all good.
I think I’d like it much better it if the scenting were dialed down substantially, it’s way over the top for me. However, I’m in the same boat as JakartaBoy in that floral snuffs are not my thing. I do like some of the Indian floral snuffs, 41 Photo Himtaj is my favourite in that category.
It’s hard to describe exactly what’s in it and I’m at work right now so I can’t dust off my tin to give an immediate description. I recall a flowery perfume bomb with incredible staying power. When I first got it I used it as a bedtime snuff and the Doctor would still be “in the house” in the morning.
I don’t often experiment with mixing but have added a small amount of Dr. JR Justice (and another strongly scented F&T - Princes Special) to plain snuff in the past. I can’t remember the exact ratio but a very small amount is all it takes and results in a pleasant enough snuff. If you find it on the strong side all is not lost as this could add something a bit interesting to something a bit bland. On the other hand, you may end up loving it as is, many people do.
@jakartaboy @crullers hey guys thanks for the advice and input, I could definitely see this as one of those ya love it or ya hate it snuffs, maybe if its one of the hate it snuffs for me, i could find something to mix it with. Now I’ve heard that this Dr Justice is a mix between princes and something else is this true??
@SnuffSlinger It is a mixture of 50% Morlaix & 50% Bordeaux.
So if you have those then use equal amounts, give them a good stir and leave in an airtight container to let them meld.
Gotcha I thought it may have been a mix of something, just wasn’t sure what. Thanks @chris
I actually enjoy the Dr JR Justice, though I don’t use it every day. I’m more likely to turn to the Morlaix, which is one of my favorites in the scented snuff category. Of the F&Ts though I’d say Old Paris is the best in that category, with High Dry Toast and Santo Domingo in the tobacco-centric snuffs.
Everyone is on one side or the other, I’ve heard that F&Ts are either a love em or hate em Snuff. Hopefully I enjoy it. I ordered a 50g tin because it sounded amazing ha-ha. @cpmcdill
I have 2 50g tubes of JR Justice and I’ve had them for many years. Not my thing either. Similar in style and moisture to Old Paris. I think it’s very well done, I just don’t seem to want to take any except one pinch a few times a year.
@cpmcdill I just received my shipment from Mr Snuff and I have to say out of all the ones I ordered. The Dr Justice is now my favorite, I have to try old Paris next. Although when I first cracked the tin open, I thought the same thing, this smells like an old ladies perfume. Ha-ha. But once in the nose, I loved it. I did decant a bit of toque quit with it just because I am trying to quit those nasty cigs. Thanks for all the info guys!! @snuffbox @chris @jakartaboy @crullers
Still liking it @SnuffSlinger?
I am indeed I take it everyday and have already ordered more!! It takes a bit to get used to and the tin notes are a bit overwhelming, but all in all a nice floral Snuff. @santamourJr
F&T Old Paris is great!
slightly musky and very earthy.
Uncle Squinty has an interesting review on this. Hopefully he hasn’t taken it down, as it was kinda accurate
