I have, while taking snuff recently (due mainly to my own hastiness) gotten some portion of snuff into either one or both eyes at a time. It came to my mind that maybe actually doing it on purpose may add a whole new dimension to snuff taking. I am curious to see what you guys think about this, about it’s safety, or any other variety of topics that might be concerned with eye-snuffing.
this might even be crazier than my BRUTON+Baking soda experiment! Not it!
I’ve had snuff in ma eye a few times, and I’m going to go ahead and say that it is much nicer in the nose!
That sounds effin’ painful!
Let us know how that works out Sfingle. I hope you can touch type.
Sfingle, Nicotine could be readily absorbed into the blood stream as the snuff dissolves into the fluids surrounding the eyeball. But, as anyone who has gotten the tiniest bit of snuff, or sand for that matter, into their eyes, it is quite an irritant. And, I’ve seen the stuff that comes out of my nose after a good day of snuffing, could you imagine walking around with snuff stained eyeballs. Good luck Sfingle.
Bernard makes or made something called “Russischer Augentabak” translated: Russian eye tobacco. Its a snuff though, no idea why its called eye tobacco. I dont think its still produced.
@ Matt: Lol; @ GoldenBoy: That’s an interesting little fact, wonder if anyone has ever used it for the eyes. I didn’t think about the whole eye-discoloration thing, either, I actually mainly just posted this idea as a little joke, but it is something to think about, and I’ll probably try it at least once, with a mellow snuff. I ain’t sticking any W.E. Garret in there!
Sfingle, I give you 9.5 for the funniest topic ive seen yet…
I’m not a doctor but… Powder tobacco in the eye… i don’t think it’s a good idea.
Just the abrasive quality of snuff would make eye snuffing a bad idea. Plus nicotine constricts blood vessels which I could see having really bad long term effects on the eyes if done regularly. (not the occasionaly tiny amount in the eye, but using effective doses in the eye). As far as eye tobacco it could mean a plethora of diffrent things. For one isn’t there a type of flake tobacco called birdseye. It might make the eyes water. Or possibly it’s an insult to russians like they put this stuff in the eye. Wait maybe russians did use snuff in the eye but only after having their noses cut-off for useing snuff in the first place.
Well…if you can inhale smoke and make it come out of your eyes then why couldn’t you eye snuff? Come on, Brail isn’t that hard to learn.
eye see what your saying…
Heck, there’s an element we’re missing here! Isn’t it true that in the American South, ladies would take a hickory stick, dip it in dry snuff and chaw on it? Maybe people with glass eyes gave ‘em a little roll in the Bruton’s first thing in the morning, kinda kickstarted the day a little? "Now be nice to Grandma, Junior. We ran out of Bruton’s this morning and her eye’s a-twitchin’."
@GoldenBoy … Russian eye tobacco: people believed that snuff may enhance the eyesight, if it has a good nose running effect…
You’d be walkin’ around with a brown eye on your face. Ehhch.
hmm maybe a clear liquid nic infusion in some saline… but it just doesn’t sound good to me.
In the name of snuff, science, and pure anticipation and curiosity, I think i will probably try this eye-snuffing thing out later today when I feel composed enough to do so. Probably won’t make a habit of it, either out of pain, or all the cautionary warning this post has gotten, but i do feel I should at least give it a go and see (pun intended) if I like it.
Almost sounds like that old farmer that shoved in his ears. Haha be careful if you try, wouldn’t want you to go blind!
I flush my eyes with brake fluid twice a year. It’s painful but my sight is so much better afterwards. (Don’t try this at home). I’m pretty sure that if I was still drinking, I would have tried to snuff through my eyes after a couple of drinks. But, being sober, I doubt whether I will participate in this practice. My nostrils are quite big enough for that purpose.
It works real good if you sprinkle some on your contact lenses then put them in. Big rush.
@ orion - The priests told me that I was going to go blind when I was younger…heh…I never did though I surely did try. Ha! Oh yeah, they said I’d get hairy palms too. If they were right I’d be a wolfman by now.
wickedkitchen, we were told the same thing. We then decided that we will only continue doing it until we needed spectacles.
@ wickedkitchen - I’m just sayin man. And your life isn’t over yet so hairy palms and blindness might still happen don’t let your guard down. I’ll stick with snuff in my nose.
Well now that this whole eye-snuffing thing is behind me, and us as a group, I suppose we should move on to my second idea: snuff depositories, boldly putting snuff where it has never gone before. Who’s in?!
Sfingle, please read DRY OR MOIST? I’ve been there already!
I see… well where else can we put this stuff where no one has thought of yet? Hmmm…
i put some snuff in the depostiory at my bank… no effect except funny looks next time i went in to make a deposit.
I accidentally just eye-snuffed again with some O&G…mmmm…I like how the pain is offset by the buzz.
We should take up a collection for Sfingle’s cornea transplant.
Ever hear of the Darwin Awards??? You may be short-listed for one…even if it doesn’t kill you outright, you deserve an honorable mention.
Hahaha; thanks for the concern (or possibly pity) my fellow snuffers, but don’t worry, I don’t do it on purpose anymore, just that one time. I think I will just keep the topic up as a log of all the times I accidentally get snuff in my eye(s) in the future. Feel free to put your own accidental eye-snuffing stories in as well.
I just snuffed some Magnet Menthol off the back of my hand, and got a nice portion of it my eye, same thing also happened a few other times over the past few days. I know its wrong, but it feels damn good for some reason, lol.
I’ve a few times accidentally gotten some Dholakia White into my eye (extremely easy to do since the powder there is so pale and fine its very very easy to get it on your fingers not realize there’s still some there and go to rub your eye and … blammo! eye snuff it is). I am already functionally blind in my right eye (it can still see shapes and shadows and outlines etc but its a pretty useless eye otherwise) so I guess no real harm if its been my right eye I’ve managed to nail with the White (in fact its likely why its been that eye since I really can’t see a faintly pale spot of dust on a finger coming for that eye).
I find that occasionally when blowing my nose, snuff residue ends up in my eye producing a burning/stinging sensation.
When I do it (which, by the way whitslrr, I have done with White also accidentally many times), I definitely have a moment of irritation, but also a buzz in few seconds. maybe it has to do with more blood pumping to that area due to irritation, which in turn leads to a quicker absorption of nicotine. Just a theory that i just now thought up.
I think its a great idea, the image of your eyeballs weeping snuff is an unusual one to say the least. And don’t forget the famous case of the farmer who put snuff in his ear for 40 years, so there is precedent for poking it up different orifices. That said, the possibilities are staggering (which is what you would be doing if it went up one orifice I can think of)
interesting additional idea… you could feign crying on demand whenever you wanted or needed (though I can’t think of any reason or need to do this unless you are an actor or extremely manipulative to somebody you know), and get your nicotine all at once. on my accidental eye-snuff events my eye watered a bit I didn’t really tear up (I have teared up a lot more, enough to send a large tear literally rolling down my cheek) from the occasional unusually skilled sniff of other things (like even Toque Clements) that relaly hit its mark, but my eyes are already kind of unusual and unpredictable that way (some medicines dry my eyes out so much they literally audibly clack when I blink which btw is an extremely miserable degree of dryness to have), don’t always react as expected, stay dry when they should water, other times my eyes have sent a single tear shooting down my cheek for no reason whatsoever (no I wasn’t upset or crying or anything, just woke up an a short while after or when tired once in a while and without any irritation or rhyme or reason one eye or the other, usually the right the now ‘dud’ eye, will just randomly fire off a single tear). I have had to explain when this has happened in front of people that no, I’m not upset my eye is just having a mind of its own, etc. Incidentally if I do happen to get upset enough to invoke even a remote feeling that might even have the slightest hint of an actual pending tearful event its always that same one right eye that’s inclined to fire one out then too. I mean I can just hear a song that’s really significant to me or emotion-invoking but I’m not crying over it, but there goes that one eye, its kind of embarrassing. but oddly so far it hasn’t yet with the accidental snuff-taking there (just a lot of burn and “ouch ouch” and “oh damn damn that smarts” etc going on)
@GoldenBoy: eye tobacco! That might be a reference to the fact that snuff was once thought to have a beneficial effect on the eyesight; I’m sure a few others here are aware of “Grimstone’s Eye Snuff,” which was certainly not snuffed though the eyes…
@ James…quote;“Now be nice to Grandma, Junior. We ran out of Bruton’s this morning and her eye’s a-twitchin’.” unquote. That was priceless!! Thanks for the laugh
I thought of another horrible one. Snuffing with genitals. I have heard some consume alcohol that way.

Ha. I usually take it as a suppository. No I don’t. I stick it up my nose. But this post makes me want to add two comments: 1) When trying to get rid of the last dregs of Dholakia White in a snuffbox by blowing hard, always shut your eyes first; 2) Be careful when opening the same box when it’s full in a room with a fan, particularly if you have a three year old child staring at you with avid fascination as you are doing so. I still remember the baleful stares I got from both the mother and the child for the following 24 hours when I forgot this golden rule.
You could could also rub it on your knobend or stick it up your ass. Both methods would work, but why do that?!
Intentional and repeated putting abrasives in your eyes will probably eventually lead to blindness. Have you ever heard of anybody intentionally scratching the lenses of corrective lenses?
Just look at the threads of a snuff tin if you want an example of the abrasive quality of snuff. Not something I’d be willing to intentionally put anywhere near my eye…
This thread reminds me of a crazy idea I’ve had before. Absolutely nothing I would ever try or recommend but I think it would be an interesting idea to throw into some kind of strange dystopian novel or something. Subcutaneous tobacco. Like packing snuff into an open wound. For when everything else has been thought of and you still gotta have that nicotine. Yes, it’s crazy and weird. Don’t do it!
